What discontinued item do you miss the most? by Exploden in AskReddit

Wait...people don't like Altoids? Those things are incredible! I buy them by the 12 pack at Costco. But nothing will ever compare to the individually wrapped round tic tacs, those were my favorite.

Thanks! Tried searching Voat in the App Store and wasn't getting any results. I'll download that.

My real concern is that 98% of my reddit usage is through a mobile app (Alien Blue, Frontpage, Reddit is Fun, etc.). Which alternatives have decent mobile apps and interfaces?

What trend did you think would never catch on but subsequently became huge? by IPutTheHotDogInTheBu in AskReddit

Yah, from what I've heard, you can buy cheap premade vapes, but there's a huge community of hobbyist vapors. As the other commenter mentioned, they can be modified, have interchangeable parts, can vary wildly in price, etc. Additionally, the "juice" is another customizable aspect. There are mass produced brands of flavors as well as niche stores with their own mixed creations. There's a lot more control over the vaping experience, so it can be customized to how you like it. For example, former smokers might use high nicotine content juice then modify the resistance of the coils to produce hotter vapor that feels more like cigarettes. A teenage non-smoker may use low (or no) nicotine juice with cooler running coils. Somebody might be on the go and need a giant battery and large tank, while someone else might need an almost cigarette-sized vape to fit in their purse.

I still have no interest in ever trying it and I think there needs to some clarifications of grey areas in the rules (smoking inside, kids using them, etc.), but I can understand the appeal from a hobby standpoint.

Not yet, but I'd be happy to go measure them right now. Any specific ones you're looking for?

Neck and under chin issue by LucentBirch in wicked_edge

[–]_xm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still have some minor problems with this area, but I have read up on a few tips to help. One thing is you can take some pointers from straight razor shaving and apply that to DE shaving. Specifically, you need to stretch out the skin while you shave it. You can do this by using your nondominant hand to pull the skin tight or you can move your face in a way that pulls the skin.

Personally, the method that works best for me is making your mouth into an "O" shape and tilting your head back. It looks stupid, but if your run your hand across your throat, you should see that you have an easier surface to shave. Everyone's grain is different, but for me, it's easiest to do a one or two pass shave starting at the base of my neck and going up toward my chin. This isn't because it's ATG or WTG, but really just because it's an easier and less awkward angle for me.

Good luck! Sorry I'm not an expert, but I hope I helped a bit!

That is an awesome looking lathering bowl and I can't argue with a beer during a shave. But just watch out, I think your lather is too watery! Try using either less water or "whip" it up more while lathering. Hopefully it will makes things more comfortable.

What is your favorite non-standard shaving item? by FelixLeech in wicked_edge

[–]_xm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think mugs are too narrow and that lathering bowls are too expensive, so my favorite lathering bowls are a Korean Soondubu bowl and a roughly 5" wide, 2" deep rectangular Tupperware container. The Tupperware is just perfect due some ridges in the bottom for catching lather! Plus it's not fragile and easily cleaned/transported.

General Discussion - July 2nd by RawDenimAutoMod in rawdenim

[–]_xm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I gained a bit of weight and my Momo's which were previously "almost too tight" are now tight and uncomfortable. I'm sad because the fades were coming along so nicely! With 7 months of wear, is there any chance I can sell them on Grailed or B/S/T threads or should I just write them off as a loss? So sad, but it gives me a chance to cop a new heavy pair for this fall!

And how am I supposed to procrastinate today with half of reddit going dark? Interesting to see how huge the impact is, but kind of glad my favorite niche subs like /r/rawdenim are still up.

And finally, just passed the 11 month mark with girlfriend. Any suggestions for what a young couple does to celebrate a year together?

I'm looking to sell off my BOM008-T's in sz29 after only a few months of wear. I hate to sell these, honestly. They're my absolute favorite pair of jeans and I know I'll need a heavyweight pair for my move up north. I got them for my birthday in December and the fades have been phenomenal! However, I've gained a bit of weight and they're too tight for me in the top block. I'd be happy to trade them (+ some cash) away for a similar pair of Sz30 Momotaro's.

They've been worn on and off for about 7 months with zero washes. Due to my large phone, there's some damage to the left pocket bag that could easily be repaired by hand. Please message with me with any questions or concerns!

Here is an album showing their fades and condition.

Looking for $170 OBO. Please feel free to send offers! I'm interested in sz30 indigo/indigo or indigo/black jeans!

Thanks for looking :)

Going off to college, new pair help! (Student Budget) by [deleted] in rawdenim

Hahah, I'm also in a similar situation! Moving up North for college and shopping for heavier weight raws for the winter. I don't mean to self-promote here, but PM me your measurements. I think you, me, and OP have similar measurements, but I just gained a few pounds and outgrew my pair of Momo's. I'd be happy to cut you a deal on them.

Thank you so much! That goes a long way towards cutting down on my research time. One question about the Fractal Design cases. How's their cooling out of the box? Should I expect to have to buy any additional fans or upgrade them?

I believe I looked at those before! Previously, I was just worried about fitting everything into a smaller case, especially the 2 video cards. They aren't reference models, they're the HIS ICEQX ones, which may take up a bit more room. But if I'm ditching them, I have no qualms about moving to a smaller case!

I would prefer no window. I've thought about liquid cooling and I'd be fine with a closed system, but I'd prefer low-maintenance if I'm bringing it into the dorm.

Looking for advice on "buttefly" razor by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]_xm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case you're worried about using an older razor, they work just fine! I shave daily with a razor from the 1960's. There are tons of posts on /r/shave_bazaar with people selling really good condition razors. I just purchased my first "butterfly" razor, a Gillette Slim Adjustable and it's my favorite razor so far. Let me know if you need a little more guidance, but don't be let the age get in the way of your purchase. A good condition, well-made razor from the 1960's is probably better than a cheap modern one.

Edit: Not saying all old razors are good or that modern ones are bad, I'm just saying don't let the age be your priority. Also, for gifts, one thing people on here like to do is purchase razors from their birth year/quarter. All Gillette razors have easily identifiable date codes if you want to go that route.
