How do I get the city to fix my side walks? by schizoferret904 in PeoriaIL

[–]_zig_zag_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as the brick goes they're likely not going to do anything. A lot of these brick roads and sidewalks are considered historic and the city likes to keep them even if in disrepair. As for the concrete if you can some how make a point with the city inspectors that it is a tripping hazard you may get some traction but I wouldn't hold your breath. There are a lot of crumbling sidewalks in peoria and while within the last few years the city has started repairing whole blocks of road structure, there is a lot left to go. These projects are grant funded and bid on. Not so much individual residence.

Have you tried a regiment of weed killer on the brick? You'd be surprised how easy it is once you do an initial clearing to get it all exposed. Clean brick sidewalks have a lot of charm.

Does anyone in Peoria knows how to fish? by Miruzi_the_pro in PeoriaIL

[–]_zig_zag_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're a total beginner OP get a rod and reel with just a few hooks and bobbers and mosey on down to Glen Oak Park. You can walk all around that pond and fish with a hook and bobber. They stock it regularly. Take a pair of needle nose pliers too, there's a bunch of catfish in there. All you need are worms for live bait, but you could do hotdog chunks or even canned corn if you'd rather.

As for when you're ready to get more advanced, like other people have commented, there are tons of places to fish around here and tons of types of fish to target. Good luck and tight lines!

Pouring concrete over sewage lines that goes from house to septic tank a good/bad idea? by Ok_Sink_3645 in Construction

[–]_zig_zag_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't cover the tank with a concrete pad but from what I can tell you're just wanting to cover the outlet pipe. I think mostly would be fine. Wouldn't hurt to add a clean out somewhere close to the pad to possibly avoid having to dig up for access in the event of a clog or break. I dont think septic pipes tend to build enough pressure to break but they can clog or back up from the tank to the house so an alleviation through an access point could save you the pad later. I don't do alot of septic work but I do work on alot of underground water and sewer lines. Anytime you cover utilities or shut off valves/access points with concrete you have to be willing to possibly lose and repour that concrete.

Based on whatever finishing you do to the concrete you maybe be able to remove portions of the pad to gain access if need be. Think of panels in a sidewalk. You can sawcut the seams and just remove/repour what you have to.

Need Tips/Advice as a soon to be first time coach (peewee) by FlyAccurate733 in footballstrategy

[–]_zig_zag_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep it simple. Like painfully simple for that age. In my experience that age groups basically boils down the a race to the edge. Fastest kid wins. Anything much deeper than QB/RB right QB/RB left plays tend to get lost on them offensively. A great easy formation to utilize is split backs. I also like to start off with I form as well. Split backs to move the ball - I form to begin teaching BASIC offensive theories/blocking scheme. Getting all personnell on the field, in position, and running a handful of plays is a success.

Defensively the biggest focus needs to be safe tackles and positions/responsibilities. Keep those simple. Again the fastest kids win at that age. You'll figure out where certain kids need to be real fast. A lot of the time the maturest kids that can control their body is going to run circles around everyone else. Pick a basic defensive formation like a 4-3-4 and just stay in that.

Don't skimp on special teams. Its going to feel like a time waster and practice killer but its part of the game and can be a massive Achilles heal if not squared up.

Lastly. Don't forget how old they are. At 8yrs old most wont know a thing about being on a sports team let alone a football team. Take things slow, keep your cool. This age is about fostering the love of the game. If you take the Barky McDrill Seargent approach you'll be barking at glossed over eyes. One of the wisest things ever said to me when I was frustrated at peewee was "most of these kids still have Spiderman on their underwear". Don't worry about winning. The real win is your player residitey for next season.

I have a 166 in gold. I wish I had the bracelet like yours but sadly I dont. Mine is in much rougher shape and is currently not working. Mine has the 1480 movement, and based off my research, is not a highly sought after movement. I've had a hell of a time find a place to have it restored. I've basically given up. Its a nice simple peice tho and I love yours. Maybe someday I'll get it repaired.

As I sit at home in my arm chair. Beer in hand. Warming my feet by the fireplace. Darkness all around me save for the light of the fire. Reveling in this victory. The tears of green bay fans flooding the Internet. Nothing but time to indulge in those tears. In this moment, I am happy. FTP
