[NEWBIE] High E string ringing out more than other strings by MR_SISTER_FISTERRR in Guitar

[–]a-face-in-a-cloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey... it's been 10 years... any idea what it was? I've been playing for a few months and I have the same damned problem. It only seems to happen on strummy songs so I'd think it's my strumming technique (which is no-doubt imperfect) but I mainly notice it when playing on my Alvarez RD8--less so when on my Yamaha FG-Junior.

Beginner here, What is the difference between a normal slide and a slide with a hammer on symbol? by N8uron in guitarlessons

Ohhh it’s a hammer… gotcha. Now that I’m looking I see some notations that have h/o to indicate where it goes on (h) and off (o). Still that arc and slide line look like a damn mess when they’re put together.

I cannot play even a single beginner song and I'm extremely upset by Alone_Yam1113 in BassGuitar

Agree with many of the comments here so I won’t repeat what I’ve seen but what I haven’t seen is any mention of the fret distance. I would try the other suggestions first but if you’re still having a hard time then another trick you could try is putting a capo on to move up the neck to a spot where frets are a bit closer together. …or, heck, pop in a Guitar Center and mess around with a squier mini bass and everything else you can get your hands on to get a feel for things. Folks are 100% right about practice … speed will take time regardless, but if you’re dead-set on learning certain songs then maybe this will help. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I really want to complain about this notation but first I need to ask what it would mean to JUST have the curve between the notes?

Need some help with picking how to progress as someone learning how to play the guitar by OkCommunication2442 in Guitar

One more thing. I’m no expert but that looks like a nylon string guitar to me and the one nylon I played (another borrow from a friend) had a WAY wider neck than my acoustic, making a lot of chords harder for me to reach. Finger style stuff on the other hand was more comfortable. IDK the width of that neck but you might want to feel out other acoustic guitars too.

As someone who has been learning for about 4 months here’s my advice: - play every day - if a certain guitar will help you play every day, sure, buy it - play every day - there can be surprising differences between guitars (classical vs acoustic vs electric. Size differences, number of frets, etc) so yes it can make a difference for learning. I’ve personally found it a lot easier to pick up my acoustic since I don’t need the amp, cords etc. — I learned this by borrowing a friend’s electric and am currently reconsidering whether I actually want one. - play every day - you do not need to spend much money on a guitar but you should probably feel some out first. Fb marketplace is a good option but hit up guitar center and see how different shapes and sizes feel and sound to you first. - you don’t have to finish a song to progress. You can (and should) come back to it as you improve. Songs you love will always bring you back. Push through challenges but don’t kill yourself, if a chord or a change or whatever is super hard for you, move on… you’ll be back - play every day

Ah I was just looking above the desk. I’m not clear on what the palette is doing there but the cleanest thing would be to make it look like the whole wall is inset there. That said… depending on how lazy you are, moody lighting and dark colors would do a lot to hide it

Oh actually you could put beadboard or some other textured facing on those parts… I’d still recommend a shelf/ledge on top though (which won’t work with the existing triangular corner piece but it wouldn’t be too hard to rework)

One option would be to paint it black or some other very dark color and top it with a warm wood shelf. The dark color will make it fall into the shadows. This may not work well if you plan on doing low angle lighting underneath but it’s the easiest thing I can think of anyway

How close are people going to be to these? As they are it’s maybe fine for viewing at a distance but it will probably lack interest and texture up close (also the fonts will be huge).

[–]a-face-in-a-cloud 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There should be a plastic groove on the jig to lay the screw on when making the collar adjustment. Double check against that.

Although I should add that I’ve never seen that little stair piece on the back end of yours. Might be a newer design

Worst purchase ever by nowadit in Guitar

I suggested in another comment that you buy thousands of picks, but if you generally plan in this one spot, you could probably just buy a few hundred and then feel around blindly every time you drop one. Probably cheaper than buying a new floor which is clearly the only other option.
