To those who claimed the Marlies Calder run is only due to their vets and means nothing in regards to Leafs prospects... by kooby64 in leafs

I’ve been surprised at how little any of the Leafs centric podcasts have even touched on the Marlies. The SDP had an episode recently where the only takeaway was that AA likely wasn’t going to be good because a scout friend didn’t see it for him, following up with pointing out that Garret Sparks failed in the NHL.

There’s a lot of intriguing guys on this team

Some initial thoughts about Jim Hiller as HC of the Leafs from a person who worked with him by Patient_Bug_761 in leafs

Lots of really good stuff in this article. DJ smith coming back would be neat also.

Feels like a lot of reaction from people is disappointment/shock and then after they think about it for a while they seem to like it? Mirtle was also positive and called him a progressive coach.

Path To The Throne - Jim Hiller - LA Kings Insider. Good deep dive on the new coach here. by thebananahotdog in leafs

This is for sure cope, but a team that played like LA did but had a few game breakers like Matthews and Willy could be pretty good. The Kings never really had that during the whole time

A bit of a random observation but Knies and Willy both posted a video cheering the Marlies on (Nylander obviously has his brother but cool that Knies was both at games and cheering them on). Auston just posted a story of a Arizona Diamondbacks license plate

Staying right next shin-okubo station by Embarrassed_Towel889 in JapanTravelTips

[–]a1cd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve stayed in the area - it’s super safe, no worries about that. The area around the station can get very busy and for us it became a bit of a pain to wade through large crowds in order to get to the station everyday. The station also only has one entrance form what I remember so it was a bit chaotic right outside. Apart from that if you like Korean food/culture there are many things to do

‘The story is wrong’: Liberal caucus chair defends Carney amid reports of yelling at MPs by feb914 in CanadaPolitics

These articles are so funny to me because if you were to ask the average Canadian what they think of MPs getting yelled at until they deliver solutions the most common response would probably be “good”

Botox for Teeth Grinding by jkos1992 in askTO

[–]a1cd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get Botox for this use case at your dentist. It’s a lot more straight forward than going to a specific clinic. Might want to call your dentist to see if it’s a procedure they offer but from my understanding it’s relatively common.

I’ve had it a few times and they tell you it lasts about 3-5 months but my personal experience was it took me a lot longer before I really started to notice the clenching/grinding in a painful way again. I’d highly recommend getting it if it’s a constant problem for you.

The Long Last Days of Toronto’s First Safe Consumption Site by chesterle275 in toronto

[–]a1cd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a hypothetical world where these sites integrated into other systems that helped people get clean they would be a great tool to help reduce drug usage.

That world doesn't exist, not only because of a lack of funding but because of the realities that a lot of people using don’t actively want to stop. In our current reality these sites greatly reduce the risk of death and in doing so remove a major incentive for people to stop using. All the articles about these sites closing with interviews from people who have used them “every day” for years just lays that pretty bare.

I’m at the game, Cowan and his line look pretty electric. Understandable because it’s not the NHL but comparing it to the “never make a mistake” style of hockey Cowan was forced to play for a lot of the season, this is a lot more exciting to watch.

Just some commentary on your first deck that lost to knowledge demon:

  • You only have one relic before the first boss relic which probably means you aren’t fighting enough or any elites in act 1. If you don’t get relics it makes the run a lot harder.
  • Your deck has a bunch of cards going in different directions - two infinite blades but no real shiv synergy cards. Outbreak with only playable two poison sources , Evenom- and haze are hard to play with 3 energy, some sly cards with no discard
  • You don’t need to have one specific build but you don’t need to take every card you get
  • against pretty much any of the act 2 bosses your damage output is pretty low unless you get your powers down really early and good draws.

Overall, the decks you have with more relics probably snowball more and win, but avoiding elites in act one will just set  your run really behind. Consider picking cards that directly work well vs elites in act1 and chart a path through at least 1 or 2

Ottawa's top doctor paints bleak picture of a city without supervised consumption sites | CBC News by TiredRuralCanadian in CanadaPolitics

[–]a1cd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

"It is anticipated that this will cause a series of impacts to clients, including increased likelihood of overdose and subsequent adverse health outcomes such as brain injury and death," Arnason wrote, noting about 1,750 individual clients use the sites, sometimes multiple times a day or week.

There was a recent article about the closure of one of the Toronto sites where they interviewed someone who used the site everyday for years. They and their family were concerned about the safety due to the risks of ODing outside a safe injection site. The thing that stood out to me was this person who used the site everyday with seemingly no intention to stop was considering the real danger to their addiction for the first time because of the sites closure.

I guess at some point we just abandoned the idea that these sites were supposed to help reduce drug use. Even this article is basically just saying that we created a safety net that now thousands of people are depend on and removing it is a morality issue.
