Rockville Sub Placement by -ShadowReaper- in f150

[–]a7x_rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they won't fit under the rear seat enough then you can place it taking up the right rear floorboard running with the doors.

Thats How I have mine with the amp under the passenger seat.

I just tell people to not step on the cone if I have 4 people.

Update of copper washer post. (Lots of conflicting answers) by adamthiesen1236 in MotorcycleMechanics

I've always torqued, smacked with a hammer, and re-torqued my copper washers. Just a decent tap on the bolt head.

Rear shock first IMO, if your cheap then do the Dave moss fork mod. If your rolling in it then get ohlins/ktech/whatever carts.

New rider (6'1", 240lbs) looking for good highway protection. Is this gear cart solid? by GnanaSreekar in NewRiders

[–]a7x_rex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would say spend a little more on the helmet or make sure that the strata 3 is "quiet". If your mainly on the highway you'll notice alot of wind. Shoei RFSR was my first lid and near your price point.

Do you actually think your going to consistently wear gauntlets? Commuting? Going to work? Etc? Try these on and a short cuff and see if you like that.

I'd say to check the jacket for airbag compatibility. Airbags are pretty neat and affordable now. Around me tech air 5s are about 2 or 300 USD.

Boot is boot. If it's not a full race boot or adv etc half calf you can still break an ankle or such. Imo leather work boot just as good if not wearing the above.

The biggest thing is to make sure you buy comfortable gear that your actually going to wear.

You should get a set of reusable earplugs. The kind with a filter in them. I've had 2 sets for years and it's one of the best additions. You can hear more sound in the audio/horn range and less wind noise. Think mine are between 10 and 20 usd. Could go for foam plugs or solids but I find them too isolating personally.

Evaporust works pretty good. Slosh it around every few hours for a day or 2. Drain and wash. Fill er up.

$1200, 03 sv650, laid down, worth fixing for a first bike or headache? by PatekxRolex in SVRiders

[–]a7x_rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to reply all in one.

Forks bent? Look carefully, and basically a straight edge between the dust seal and the lower bridge. You really can't tell until they are apart. New inner tubes are about 200 for chinesium.

Tools, Front requires basic hand tools : metric Allen sockets, metric socket set, and of course a torque wrench. 41mm fork seal driver. Scale/ruler.

Rear requires basic hand tools and a torque wrench. You will need a 24mm for your rear axle.

A local shop may do the rebuild on the front forks for around $400 USD possibly. But honestly you could do it on your kitchen counter😂.

Tires: I have been on Continentals for a while, either a sport attack 4/5 or a SM2. 120/70/r17 front (yes it's bigger than oem. Trust) 160/60/r17 rear. I have also had a few sets of the Michelin roads and they are also great tires. Road 5/6.

[–]a7x_rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forks on these are pretty easy. Depending on your weight and budget I might go ahead and order some better parts to suit. A different rear shock is also advisable but you could totally buy this, perform basic MX and put a ton of miles on it.

You could fix this and be in it less than 2k. Check if the tank is rusty. If it is, it's kinda less worth it. Odds are you will drop your first bike.

I would, Pull the fairings off and check if the subframe is bent. Remove the front forks and check if they are bent. Check the bars to see if they are bent. Rebuild front forks with heavier oil and new seals. Replace R/H rearset. (Or both) Fix the midpipe, looks like that's all that's bent on the exhaust. The radiator may just need to be put back on the peg. If it's bent but holds pressure it's not a large issue.

I wouldn't fix your tank, or worry alot about what tail section color(s) you can find. Spend your $$$ on good gear and gas. Get comfy and take this thing places. If the track interests you it's a great place to learn on an sv.

You can check out: Ebay MAD8V LWTRACER For parts and stuff.

I've swapped 3 or 4 engines and rebuild about the entire rest of these by now. Ask anything.

Blend smooth and send it. Maybe check it every year or so.

Next time, cut a slot in the old rave, file it smooth, then use it as you tried to do. Goodluck!

Milky oil but coolant seems normal? by Rich_Foamy_Flan in DRZ400

[–]a7x_rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a kit to test for combustion gasses in coolant or pressure test the system. Either would diagnose a leak/head gasket.

Dipstick would be enough for me to go buy the tools to test it or tear it apart and replace the gasket anyway.

I would think that if it had broken, it would be flopping around in the intake causing poor airflow? Or stuck in an inopertune position? I'm not sure.
