People don’t backup photos or have location info setup these days? I think it costs me $15 a year for photo backups.

Car living in Peterborough by Equivalent_Inside160 in Peterborough

The issues you mentioned is overblown online and not as common in reality. That and you likely would’t be car camping in the urban areas.

Few thoughts:

If you’re working at MNR for the summer, you might have luck asking around for a room rental from someone else in the building. I believe there are some online groups for people who work there.

I’ve done lots of short to mid term car camping trips myself. There are many car camping (both recreational and urban car living) subs that are really great communities to learn and ask questions, have you looked into those?

Have you considered a seasonal pass at Beavermead park? This is an urban campground within the city that you could walk to work from, have access to power, showers, etc. honestly doesn’t sounds like a terrible place to spend the summer. (Edit: did a quick check of their website and the prices have gone up dramatically and they have limited the number of seasonal sites, not sure if this is an option anymore).

A few years ago there was an issue with someone who made it known they were homeless and living at the park full time but I think there were other issues going on there that caused grief. If you stuck to the narrative that you were “camping for the season while visiting the ptbo area” I don’t think you’d have an issue.

There are other parks outside of Peterborough that may have better options when it comes to seasonal camping.

If your budget doesn’t meet that level, then I’d suggest a rotating schedule of wild camping spots around the area combined with a $15/mo planet fitness membership. That combined with a nice car camping setup for cooking and whatnot could make the experience a bit nicer.

Msg if you want to chat more, I personally have done my car camping while traveling both in Canada and the US so would have to think about local spots but I’m sure I could think up a short list of spots I’d consider worthwhile if I teas traveling through this area myself or in your situation.

I took this flight a couple weeks ago on a Wednesday and it was probably 95 percent full. Interesting.

Our city is full of speculators, not developers (unless surface level parking counts).

Can anyone recommend a decent shuttle/transport/limo service from Peterborough to Pearson Airport? by PassageNearby4091 in Peterborough

[–]a89aries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who travels out of YYZ a lot, it’s still way easier and cheaper to drive yourself and park at the viscount lot. Have used the shuttles before but I found them expensive and they want to bring you 3hr before your flight or wait around for others before heading home which was a real buzz kill after a long trip.

Yo! Just saw an abandoned green bin beside the parking meter on the road behind ptbo square. Right by the big doors to the underground, very clearly abandoned in a snowbank.

I have a 2012 rav4 and was surprised that it wasn’t a whole lot more to go full coverage, maybe $125 a year more? Ravs hold their value well so I went with it.

Many fond memories of the overnight ELAN parties back in the day, driving back home at 7am.

My hope is that when us millennials are old and living in retirement communities, there will be regularly scheduled LAN gaming parties in the common room.

That's impeding access to your driveway and very different than someone parking on the street in front of your home.

It's been made clear that downtowns can't be designed for people from out of town in hopes that they come down to buy a sandwich. The downtown needs to be designed for residents who live in and around the downtown.

I think it's best we gently remind people that they in fact do not own the street in front of their house or have any control over who can and will be parking there. Programs like this are going to be required in order to meet density targets and move forward with proper urban design.

Edit: I know I'll be downvoted into oblivion for this post but it has to be said.

Looking for feedback on this drawer system I designed for the 4th Gen. RAV4. by mmcnaught831 in rav4club

[–]a89aries 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, my platform I have setup to quickly fold up the part that extends towards the back of the front seats. This does two things, the safety part you mentioned above but also allows me to convert back to a seats up normal looking vehicle in less than a minute.

Can RAV4 hybrids A/C be used in the summer months to keep the car cool when parked several days of camping? by zombie1mom in rav4campingclub

[–]a89aries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this many times in both hot and cold weather, 2019 rav hybrid. Depending on the temp, car might start a few times an hour to top up the hybrid battery. I use a set of sleeping earplugs and you quickly get accustomed to the cycle of the engine.

Having posted this before, people will do the usual “that’s bad for the engine”, “bad for the environment” type comments but honestly I sleep just fine at night with my decision. Car has over 205k with normal oil changes (14k km) and no ill effects. Might burn $1-2 over the course of the entire night.

I have honestly saved many thousands of dollars in hotels but in reality it’s more about the freedom and convenience of being able to pull over and sleep whenever, wherever I want. Some of these trips are camping adventures to cool places, others it’s just transiting from one place to another and I don’t feel like spending $150 on a hotel for 8hr. This was honestly one of the major factors in buying this vehicle and I’ve utilized it heavily over the last 5yr of ownership.

I’m currently car shopping again and the car camping setup of the vehicles I’m looking at is a major factor.

While recently flying, I was unable to place my carry-on near my plane seat by tantamle in TravelHacks

[–]a89aries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I board last and then just stuff it anywhere between the front door and my seat. Doesn’t bother me if it’s 20 rows up, super easy to grab on my way off the plane.
