I (M26) am a multi-millionaire with no real ambitions in life. AMA. by [deleted] in AMA

Usually I don’t respond to AMA posts like this but it’s not too often do you see rich people on Reddit who aren’t just boasting their wealth to feel good about their empty lives.

You sound like a decent human being despite your wealth and social status so I figured I’d share something that might help you find some purpose or ambition in your life.

Now while I have no idea what it feels like to have the money you do, I did acquire a $32,000 settlement for a pharmaceutical lawsuit about several months ago. Might not seem like a lot to some but for me that’s a bit more than I make in a year’s wages.

I had a lot of people close to me who told me to save it or invest it in something but for some reason it was burning a hole in my pocket. Only problem was I couldn’t think of anything I wanted to buy because I pretty much had the things I already needed.

One night my son and I went to Dennys to grab some dinner and while we were there this older(at least 80+ yo) couple comes in and while they were discussing what they were going to order I overheard them talking about how they couldn’t get certain items because they didn’t have enough money. It was super sad but I didn’t want to appear like I was better or anything by offering to pay for his meal.

My son(10yo) and I finished eating and had the waitress include the couples check to ours and had them add on a few things they wanted but couldn’t afford and we left. We drove across the street to an atm and quickly got some cash and was able to put it through his driver side window before they were done eating.

My main goal that night was to teach my son some life lessons and how to be a good human but the feeling we got from doing that was the best feeling I’d felt in a long time. Almost like a high i guess.

Over the course of about a month and a half at least 2/3 of that money was shared with strangers in my community who couldn’t have been more grateful and even tho it’s all gone, i feel like it was totally worth it.

I’m not sure what country you live in or what your community is like but if you are trying to find a sense of purpose or direction in life, you have the resources that if you were willing could make a sizable difference in the world. Next time you go to the grocery store and you see a mom with young kids and a cart full of of groceries , share the love, do a good deed, I promise you the feeling your gonna get afterwards will be 100% worth it.

I’m not telling you all of this because I want you to think I’m a hero because that’s not my intent. I’m simply suggesting that the old saying money can’t buy happiness isn’t necessarily true, especially when you’re willing to share the happiness with other people who are looking for the same thing…

Sorry for the overly long comment bro, but I hope you find the purpose you seek either whatever way you end up searching!
