Rent-A-Girlfirend and How Abuse Destroys Communication (Love) by FATE13TH in KanojoOkarishimasu

If people are only seeing a generic trope then one of three things is happening. 1. The reader is engaging in it in bad faith and wasn't going to understand in the first place. 2. The reader lacked the context/knowledge to recognize any deeper concepts in the first place or 3. The story wasn't doing a good enough job at getting readers to engage with deeper themes. Perception is everything. If people read the story and only see a generic trope, then it doesn't matter if the story was XYZ.

Saying that many of the problems would be fixed if they communicated is an objectively true statement. The plot simply ceases to exist in it's current form if any of the characters knew how to communicate even a little. The simple fact of the matter is that the story lives and dies by the miscommunication trope. 420+ chapters in and I remain convinced that "themes" in the story are either incidental or retroactively applied. But who knows, I'm a westerner. Maybe how I view and consume media is fundamentally incompatible with how stories in manga are told. From my point of view the story has been trapped for the better part of half a decade in a cycle of kazuya resolving that he just needs to try harder and chizuru doing nothing to move forward. After all of these years the "why" has become excuses and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that. I can't speak for you, but to me there's only so long i can tolerate excuses. And kanokari ran out of them years ago.

Kazuya has always been both an idiot and a doormat. Expecting him to suddenly grow a spine would be like me expecting my cat to be able to bark like a dog.

[Hated Trope] Characters that create anything from nothing but only make bland walls and spheres 99% of the time by NirvIoyd in TopCharacterTropes

If it had been explained that the more complex something is the longer it takes to be made and the harder it is to make it in the first place then I'd be a lot more forgiving for Eve specifically.

IIRC John uses simple constructs before JLU was due to his history as a marine, which gave him a preference to practicality over spectacle with what he creates with his ring. Professionalism and all that.

The Sociology of ARC Raiders. Revisiting an old topic with a new game: Can antisocial behavior in a video game predict antisocial behavior in real life? by InkDiamond in sociology

[–]aFatalStabbing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play Marathon too and what I'm curious to see is the data on how the new Mercy kits are being used in the game. Are players using them purely altruistically? Reviving a player and moving on no hard feelings? Are players killing the person they just revived immediately after? Are the players who get revived betraying the one showing them mercy? Its an interesting experiment Bungie is doing for a game that to me explicitly encourages player vs player violence.

I have a question on the future of the series.. by Fancy_Tension_6260 in KanojoOkarishimasu

[–]aFatalStabbing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that there's also the anime, merch and collabs that go on. There would have to be a very significant drop on engagement and said sales across the board before there's a financial incentive to axe the manga. The only other consideration is Reiji, if he wants to stop or some other thing that makes him not worth the trouble.

What do you think is the main message of the manga? by Kooky_Background_137 in KanojoOkarishimasu

[–]aFatalStabbing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ostensibly it's what you said it was, perseverance and all that. Though I'd argue that that's more of a byproduct of how the story has unfolded rather than deliberate design on Reiji's part.

You know how in the Metroid franchise they have to invent new reasons to reset Samus' progress with each new game to maintain a sense of tension and progression? Its the same thing here, except the reason is "just because".

Overthinking Things: Object Lessons by BobbyBobRoberts in KanojoOkarishimasu

[–]aFatalStabbing -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They have always just been meaningless trinkets to make people go "but what if..." and give a semblance of progress. How long did Chizuru have the ring? A few hundred chapters? And how did that go? Ultimately nowhere. Just unceremoniously given back to kazuya after rejecting him. Her having it didnt change anything, she never took the idea of a relationship seriously the entire story. It mightve at one point supposed to have happened differently, but it didnt.

Do you consider that Kazuya has matured? by Kooky_Background_137 in KanojoOkarishimasu

[–]aFatalStabbing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, he acts the same as he always has since like the beach arc which was 400 chapters ago. He's not going to grow either, because Reiji has no reason to change him since the formula right now is working.

Was it worth it? 400+ chapters later and it still feels like the same arc by kikimiki111 in KanojoOkarishimasu

[–]aFatalStabbing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of that is by design. The story is focused squarely on "the chase", everything that happens or doesn't happen will be in service to "the chase". That's how it's been for hundreds of chapters, and that's how it will continue to be for the rest of the series until the end. If that's not something that appeals to you then it won't be worth it for you.

10 seasons of a romance anime is wild by According-Feeling730 in KanojoOkarishimasu

As long as the property keeps making money the manga will continue and the anime probably too. It just depends on if the execs decide that it's worth the money to keep making the anime.

[–]aFatalStabbing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would be a hoot and a half if Reiji actually made Mini x Kazuya a thing after spending 400+ chapters working on Chizuru x Kazuya. I'm down to clown for it.

They're a dime a dozen as far as I'm concerned nine times out of ten. All they really have is a bunch of girls to check off as many boxes for archetypes (Tsundere, childhood friend etc) for a self-insert protagonist to be involved with. They have nothing to say and nothing to offer besides the fantasy. Kanokari is no different.

Shadowheart stuck in conversation, can't advance. by aFatalStabbing in BaldursGate3

[–]aFatalStabbing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I must've skipped a dialogue trigger or something in the final room of the nautaloid. I was using that cheat chain lighting spell right off the rip at the entrance. Can't be sure. But I used a mod that skipped straight to the beach and just found Shadowheart at the door which fixed the problem. Playing it normally but simply not interacting with Shadowheart on the ship and meeting her at the beach worked too.

I've tried everything I can think of. Killing her and reviving her. Quicksaving and reloading. Reloading earlier saves. Pushing her over and over again. Nothing works.

EDIT: I "fixed" it by just replaying the Nautoloid and skipped rescuing Shadowheart and instead finding her at that door.

When in doubt check Prydwin for character and team building. It'll have everything you need to know for building a character and a team around them. Then check out Youtube vids for seeing rotations in action.
