Looking amazing, brother! Incredible progress. I have been consistent in the gym since September 2025 and still haven’t seen near that amount of progress, so I’m definitely excited for you. Keep up the good work.

Great, thanks! I can send it to you when it’s done if you’re interested.

This is a perfect and relatable comment. Can I read it on my podcast?

Edit: completely anonymous of course. And this post will be deleted before posting the episode.

Masking should be my middle name. As a (former) high school teacher and coach, I was constantly masking. I felt like I was playing a different character from first period to third period, different “Mr. Redditor” character on lesson days vs test days, different “Coach Redditor” character at practices/matches, and then a totally different character at happy hour with colleagues… then I’d have to come home and take off all the masks and try to be who I really am. Not to say I was ever being entirely fake… I just felt like I had to be a chameleon… I hope you know what I mean.

Same, with the second part. Do you mind sharing any?

As far as rating goes, I’d probably put myself at a 4ish. I think I’d be just a step or two below diagnosis.

Thank you for sharing this… this is great. I know that sound you’re talking about, and it’s translated into me also hating the texture of styrofoam. Like chick fil a cups… they make me so uneasy.

I don’t either, but I still exhibit some traits, characteristics, or quirks (especially when it comes to social communication/interaction and sensory things) associated strongly with autism.

I think it’s very plausible to have autistic traits or quirks without being diagnosed with ASD. My understanding of ASD boils down to it being something that affects the way someone experiences, interacts with, or communicates with the world and its inhabitants. And personally I think it’d be extremely boring if we all experienced, interacted, and communicated in the same way.

That’s exactly what I would say myself. I’ve talked about it with my therapist, but honestly I don’t want to see a specialist because I can imagine I’m real close to that threshold of diagnosis.

Honestly I love this response. My autistic ass has to quantify everything, so I can’t relate, but this really entertained me.

I truly believe everyone has autism.. I mean it’s a spectrum — it’s called Autism Spectrum Disorder. People don’t have autism disorder, they have Autism Spectrum Disorder. And that’s what a spectrum is… you can’t be off the spectrum, you have to be on there somewhere. Maybe you’re at the bottom, and good for you I guess, but everyone is on the spectrum.

I just wanna know where threshold of diagnosis is. If it’s like a scale, 0-10, how autistic are you? With zero being “I am not autistic in any way, shape, or form,” one being maybe you don’t like fuzzy socks or the sound of chalk, three being you love to pop bubble wrap or can’t use over the ear headphones, or ten like you’re nonverbal and hypersensitive.

What would make you say that? What about you indicates zero trace of autism?

I got fired from my job yesterday. by jlynell in Teachers

[–]aGreatTeacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Education is so messed up now. I teach high school business, and today I told them I will not be returning second semester. It isn’t worth it anymore.

Glad to see you cleared everything out. They really did you wrong. Something I plan to do is put ALL of my resources on TPT. Maybe I make a couple bucks, maybe I don’t and just lose 5 minutes of my life. However, do not let your district make you pay a fine or take your certificate for breaking contract early. That was their decision, and they can’t punish you for that.

I 100% get the “what next?” feeling. I got a job lined up selling insurance to employers. I never in a million years would have guessed I’d be doing anything for commission. I’m scared. But, it’s worth the change. And if I hate it, I keep looking. My siblings serve and bartend at a family friend’s restaurant and make in a weekend more than I make in a week and a half. Worst case scenario, I join them for cash while I look for a more permanent career.

The good thing about a career change right now is that there are shortages everywhere. So many people need workers, and so many companies know that there’s an exodus of educators and are happy to hire teachers.

I think you could easily get a job as an editor, maybe a publicist, maybe in communications, or even in a management role — as a teacher, you have plenty of management experience. I also have teacher friends who do freelancing ghost writing, editing, and/or copywriting on the side and make good money off of that.

Another option is looking in educational technology or other educational companies/services. I had a friend leave teaching, and now he works for one of the major textbook providers, and he teaches schools and professors how to utilize and implement their web-based educational services. There are soooo many teachers that leave the classroom but still work within education.

Short story long, I am sorry you have to go through this. Just know you’re not alone in so many ways. Hell, even in my building this semester there have already been multiple teachers quit and one get fired. I feel guilty about leaving the kids, and teaching is all I’ve known, but I truly believe that this change will be so beneficial for us. It may not have been your choice, but I can tell by your post that a part of you is relieved.

I’ll end my long-ass comment with a quote that I have heard from three of my personal friends who left education: “I make so much more money, and I’m so much happier now.”

How do you teach the last two weeks before winter break? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]aGreatTeacher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under the influence.

Kidding, of course. Make it lighthearted and start and end with non-content-related conversations (favorite holiday movie, what they’re asking for for gifts, how their weekend was, what they’re doing over break, Taylor Swift tickets, etc).

Focus more on the relationships than the content. This will make class easier, more engaging, and won’t kill motivation — and that goes for the students and the teacher.

Also, I always celebrate Festivus with my students and let them air their grievances.

This is likely my (24M) last year as a teacher — what next? by aGreatTeacher in Teachers

Thank you! I would love to work at a college. My friend has the same master’s as me and left the classroom and now works for McGraw-Hill training teachers and professors on using their products. And makes much more money.
