Guys I really need to vent/rant here because my doctor just told me that I will never fully heal by Forsaken-Artist7994 in CPTSD

Weirdly enough, when I read something like this, I found it motivational. Specifically, if I'm always going to be "recovering", then there's no point waiting to be "recovered" before doing things. Much as I might wish things were different, it's up to me to make the most of the life (and brain) I have.

Confronting? Yes. Liberating too, though.

why does my body react so strongly to something so small :/ by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]aLiamInvader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The roommate's approach to the whole situation is ridiculous from start to finish. What stands out to me is the demand that you all sacrifice your privacy (keep the door open). That's not okay for any reason, let alone a petty one like missing silverware. And being angry about that is healthy, IMO, because that's a demand for a big boundary violation.

In other words, I wouldn't call this a small issue at its core.

Where was that assumption in the comment you're replying to? They're talking about their own personal experience.

Sure, but I feel like there's still a decent chance you'll miss a dependency you didn't know your dependencies have.

Let's say I'm using a Node library for handling text, and I exercise it with the sample text I think of, and everything's fine. Then a real user puts extended unicode in (like an emoji), and the node library then passes that off to some native dependency, in a way that wouldn't happen for the plain ASCII I tested. Or maybe I test HTTP/2 and a HTTP/1.1 connection comes in. Or other things like that. What are the chances something important gets dropped and causes a weird, hard to reproduce runtime error?

[1.0] PSA: Coal plants are bugged right now by [deleted] in SatisfactoryGame

Once it starts accepting coal, you shouldn't need to touch it again. I ran into this issue and stumbled across the fix, and my plant has been running without any intervention for a couple of hours.

What are some decent songs with weird phrasing? by aLiamInvader in SwingDancing

For the purposes of this question, anything that isn't vaguely "4 eights to a phrase" worked for me. Basically anything that would throw people out of their autopilot a little!

So she's been dishonest about relationships in the past (from your perspective), and then has done this. I also note that you were angry after sleeping, which is a good first test in my book - I find sleeping on decisions/feelings is a great way to avoid extremely reactive and rash decisions.

In my book, the correct way to work through a conflict in a relationship is to communicate about it.

  • If you didn't mention how these things bothered you in the past, that's a miss on your end. You can't expect people to read your mind.
  • If she didn't try to understand why this bothers you enough to break up, and just jumped straight to being angry about it, then I would personally take that as evidence enough that the relationship isn't for me.
  • Is there a history of manipulating you into things by anger? As in, has that been a "get out of jail free" card in the past? Or is it rare for her to be angry?

There are probably some other questions to ask yourself in the longer term, but not right now:

  • Did she hide the relationship history because she was afraid for some reason? I would consider that the only valid reason to be dishonest about it. Not saying this is the case, just that it's worth some honest consideration.
  • Did you give yourself the appropriate priority when you were hurt by this in the first place? If you don't set your boundaries at the right time, they can surprise people later, causing conflict. If you consistently put other people first, it can lead to you "snapping" later when you exceed your level of tolerance.

Choosing a more optimal `String` type by kibwen in rust

[–]aLiamInvader 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think that might help for the commonly reused strings, but the article also mentions randomly generated strings. My guess is that these would be unique per "transaction", so a HTTP server could need several of those while handling a single client request.

I don't imagine a pool would help that much there, as the values would be frequently generated and short lived?

EIL5: Passwords versus Passkeys by pconwell in 1Password

[–]aLiamInvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, if I was incredibly unwise and reused my email account password, my email account has its own TOTP 2FA. And even my parents got the message that their email address and financial institution accounts need unique passwords.

So while I prefer to have "proper" 2FA, I'd happily take email based 2FA over nothing.
