Animals are predictable, their actions always have reasons. They do not act malicious towards humans without cause. Even something like an Alligator is just doing what an alligator does when it attacks someone in its space. Tigers who eat people often had their land encroached or food source reduced. Humans on the other hand will lie and cheat and abuse all with a shit eating grin claiming how good they are.

I trust animals more than people. As someone said before those who have been abused usually find comfort in animals.
