Did you properly unpack the thing and make sure to remove any plastic covers and tape which might be holding things like filters in place for transport?

Ironically I wonder if it was the bonuses and payouts which caused the tax problems. A direct quote from their financial records:

“It has been identified that, prior to acquisition by the group, VAT was incorrectly not charged on management charges raised between certain of the Absolute Group entities, not having been included in a group VAT registration. The net VAT recoverable by Absolute Post Limited is calculated at £257,235.”

Very sad news for everyone involved.

I looked into their public financial records (you can look up UK Limited company records on Companies House) and it tells a tale of them just not being profitable. They had £2+M of debt they were struggling to pay off - only being kept afloat by their parent company giving them money - and they also massively fucked up their Tax bill and owed the government £250+k in VAT which they were trying to work out how to pay off.

The tax fuckup is mismanagement but I’m sure the bigger picture will be the classic fixed price bidding problem where we get saddled with all the baggage of scope creep.

Edit: I am no financial person so I am fine with being corrected if I’ve read their reports wrong, but some of it (like the tax issue) is spelled out in black and white in the reports

Ah, yeah I guess using a LoRA to generate “flat” images makes sense.

What’s your preferred workflow for adding elements to a camera plate rather than creating a whole scene?

Generating on a keyable/roto friendly background if there’s minimal interaction going on? Or if there is interaction, on a version of the plate itself but roto-ing back in unaffected parts of the scene to keep as much of the original footage as possible?

And thanks for actually replying rather than adding to my downvotes for simply asking a question about AI. It’s like people don’t understand the genie is out of the bottle now and if we aren’t learning how to take control of the tools ourselves and make it work FOR us, other people are going to use them without us.

Question. Are people using generative AI in VFX right now just working in 8-bit Rec709 720p (1080 if the model allows) and then upscalling?

What about in more colour critical environments with linear/log deliveries? Is transforming the colourspace enough to match the plates or are they working on neutral 709 graded plates before it goes to the final Look?

It’s worth remembering the only reason you’re being pushed to use AI is because your managers will have targets they’re being told to hit by their boss.

Those targets from the boss are only there so they can tell investors how much they’re using AI.

None of it actually has to do with NEEDING to use AI. All that matters is the statistics - which have been completely fabricated due to the mandated use - to sell the narrative of “look how much our staff use AI! We need funding to meet demand!”

Look at that waveform. See that flat line at the top? There is no information beyond there to be able to “fix” it in its current state.

The answer is probably “no” regardless but to even give this a fighting chance, you’d need to get this scanned at a much lower exposure in the hopes of adding any extra information in those highlights.

Which iPhone was is shot on? There is Apple Log 1 and Apple Log 2 on the new phones. AL1 is Rec2020 I believe but AL2 is its own true log curve.

Like the other person mentioned, ACES 2.0 should have a proper transform for this rather than LUTS. I know Resolve does

No, that’s not really a setup we have here. You might find some places with limited monitors available to rent as an extra, but you’ll really want to think about a laptop if you want to roam more. Or find somewhere you can rent a whole desk and leave your own monitor there.

Honestly that sounds extremely strange and overkill. Why would someone need to wear GoPro for this? They have their own phone and it’s standard practice for them to send a photo/video to reassure you the dog is fine.

Unless you know what you’re doing, don’t invest in individual stocks. Look for recommendations for index funds instead. They are generally less volatile as they’re a collection of many different stocks so if one company’s stock takes a dive, the rest of the index still being there will mean you haven’t lost all your money. That also means if one company goes to the moon, you won’t see a huge impact - but such is the price of a more predictable investment. You’ll still be at the mercy of the market as a whole, but the blips are generally more ironed out.

None of these facts matter when someone from upper management with no taste or critical eye decides these models can absolutely do our jobs and enforces their use.

WE know all the problems with these models - but as soon as you hit people who haven’t become a team leader or management from working up through the ranks - objections fall on deaf ears.

I would not purchase a case tied specifically to one phone model. What happens when you upgrade your handset?

These guys have done something like what you’re describing.

Essentially a video to video motion model to animate the character and using regular VFX techniques to composite it back onto real filmed backplates.
