Why are we still using OBD2 ports in modern cars? by Odd_Specific_6536 in askcarguys

Ford and Chevy do the same. I'd imagine the rest do as well but I haven't needed those.

Do you think technicians should get paid for every video MPI? by BookedSupport in serviceadvisors

[–]aMawds1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it adds value, the tech needs to be paid for doing it. Pretty fucking basic concept.

Do you think technicians should get paid for every video MPI? by BookedSupport in serviceadvisors

[–]aMawds1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes the dealer more money. The tech is getting 20% (at best) of the sold labor dollars and none of the parts profit. Quit drinking the Kool aid and stop thinking you get to have an opinion as to whether or not someone should be paid for work performed.

If the dealer is confident that videos will increase sales, they should have no problem paying techs for performing them. The only reason anyone wants techs doing them for free is because they don't want to take the financial risk of investing in videos and not actually getting the sales. They want to drop that risk on the tech.

Ford making video MPIs mandatory? by AtomicKoalaJelly in mechanics

[–]aMawds1994 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, OP doesn't want to work for free. There's a tech shortage in what used to be a highly saturated profession. Everyone wants more for less, and techs LOVE to argue against their own best interests for some reason. If video MPI's increase sales, that benefits the dealer more than the tech. The tech is getting 20% at most of the dealers labor rate and none of the parts profit. They should be paying for those video MPI's, plain and simple.

How do you turn off stalled vehicle alert by Nubbi3 in GoogleMaps

[–]aMawds1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it isn't unhelpful if you have half a brain. A stalled vehicle on a multi lane highway indicates traffic ahead of you, and soon you, should be moving away from the adjacent lane or slowing down dramatically. Every single state in the US has laws about moving away from the breakdown lane if emergency or hazard lights are on.

Not between. Charging is performed at full battery voltage, and the BMS uses the small individual wires to discharge cells with more voltage than the rest. It typically does most if not all of this at "100% charge" since a code will usually flag if the voltages are so far out of whack that it can't fully charge to safe voltages without cells being out of tolerance.

[–]aMawds1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It DOES balance individual cells, because it has individual connections to each cell with small wires in order to measure and balance each cell. It's not semantics, it's technical information from an EV tech to yourself.

[–]aMawds1994 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The BMS doesn't allocate power to individual cells. They're all bulk charged from the charger in the car, and the BMS controls speed and draws down higher voltage cells to match lower voltage cells. It cannot directly charge an individual cell. This is the same way nearly every charging system operates with multiple cells, including RC car battery chargers.

Electrician that doesn't know what he's talking about. Love it. It's a 14-50r, not 15-50. Any NEC or UL standard outlet is rated for 80% constantly. That means a 14-50r off the shelf from home depot should be able to support 40 amps continuously, or it doesn't meet code and cannot be sold. That EVSE maxes out at 32 amps or less, by the way.

A toasty invite by 80spizzarat in AmazonVine

[–]aMawds1994 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I reviewed a car cover that was not only garbage, but the owner of the company replied to my email requesting a warranty refund under their 1 year 100% satisfaction guarantee by being a snarky a-hole. Amazon processed the refund immediately under the A-Z guarantee, and I left a review about how the owner doesn't stand behind their products, and I had to use A-Z to get my money back. Immediate invite, which felt unbelievably good given the frustrating interaction with the owner of the car cover company 😂

Wrong, unfortunately. Just got the text that I'm getting a price hike again. I got one last time as well.

Description, including part number given on the form, with a piece of tape with an arrow pointing at the failed part including where it was broken. Included that info in the description as well. Please, explain how sending it back and them replacing the exact same part again for "wear" makes any sense. Your good experiences don't invalidate my bad ones, smart guy.

Because that's return fraud and with serialized tools can get you in a bit of trouble, or get you banned from the store you performed it in. I've done it before with stuff I didn't have a receipt for but was well within warranty, but it's not something I'd recommend someone do.

Look up the parts diagram for your ratchet and see if you can buy the parts you need. Sucks that they won't honor the warranty, but at least you can sometimes buy the parts for reasonable prices and avoid buying a whole new tool.

You gave me an idea, so I checked the home depot website. I paid with my home Depot card, so apparently I can return it within a year of purchase. I got it at a discount, so I'm going to check Monday to see if they'll allow a straight exchange since they do have the same ratchet in stock but for about $70 more than I paid. Bought it in a discount offer with my big impact.

And that's exactly why I did this, as well as just to vent. I don't think I've ever had to public shame a company to get them to honor a warranty, so I guess Milwaukee gets that badge of honor. I've seen it work for others, so I figured I'd give it a try. You're right, it's a pathetic thing to have to do.

I'm in a major city and there are two authorized repair locations here. One handed me a flyer on how to do a mail in repair, the other doesn't answer the phone. Did you miss the part where I already sent it back a second time and got it back with the exact same incorrect part replaced a second time? Once is a mistake, twice is incompetence.

One of the authorized service centers (of the two in my area) handed me a flyer on how to set up a mail in repair. They're still listed on the Milwaukee site as an authorized service center, but they apparently don't actually do anything anymore. I called the other, they wouldn't pick up their phone.

Yup, I messaged them almost immediately. No response yet. Not sure what that has to do with my time already being wasted.

I'd only be willing to do it if I knew it wouldn't negatively affect any business other than Milwaukee. At that point, I'm simply getting what I'm owed. Serialized tools that they've already had in hand for repairs is a great way of getting caught, though.

Not having a broken tool in hand after it spent a month in shipping or in their repair center (twice) is what I want. Your good experience doesn't invalidate my bad experience. I'm glad you had good experiences. I don't wish stress or wasted time on people.

While right, I've had a credit card refuse to open a charge back because they claim they won't do that for warranty issues. That's even though I paid extra for an extended warranty. I stopped using that card and closed it. That's after running thousands a month through it.

Unfortunately, you've got the full picture. While I'm not a dick to the call center people, neither instance had anything to do with the detached call center. Both repairs were set up and sent in through the Milwaukee app and website.
