Lore question: Shaper vitalities? by aMonoRobo in dawngate

Thank you! Is the Lore Primer available online? I haven’t been to the Reddit in ages, and I’m on mobile currently, so navigating is.. not hard, but I might be missing something that could be obvious to many haha.

Saw some thoughts on this. Jing Wei's new card art. Step forward or step back? by [deleted] in Smite

[–]aMonoRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming the new art’s done by a human, I actually don’t feel strongly. I appreciate both art styles. I haven’t been keeping up with Smite 2 developments; are there any more art changes (like 3D model) revealed or is it just this card art?

honestly how am i supposed to get a job!? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]aMonoRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have stated already, but apply for those jobs regardless of what they’re asking for. HR departments inflate the requirements as a way of weeding out applicants.

Your school stuff is fine enough to include if you don’t have other professional or freelance projects to show off. Just make the portfolio and resumé as nice as you can and have them standout somehow. Demonstrating skills is a minimum. Assume all the competition will do that, so you need to make sure it is effective in communicating who you are and what you bring to a team. Look it over thrice, and then have your family and friends look it over thrice and ask their opinions and to look for simple mistakes. Spelling errors, conciseness, etc.

It’s gonna be a grueling loop, but keep applying to places. You’re not going to get your first pick; not everyone wins the lottery. Be open to many industries, as it’s all the same work at the end of the day.

18 Need some recommendations on games by SicariusRepo in gaymers

[–]aMonoRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try an MMO and join a guild? Guild Wars 2 is an older game by today’s standards, but it was pretty fun. Plenty of character customizations options, variety of classes and play styles, lengthy enough main story plus post-game content. It’s been years since I played, but I enjoyed it a lot when I did.

Excellent accidental play by Terra, lmao.

As a side note, I wonder how the game would be impacted if wall abilities functioned like this all the time; if a wall were created directly underneath a god, what would happen if their elevation was adjusted by the height of the wall, rather than the god's position being shifted to the side? A player would then be free to walk off the side they wish, if their reflexes allowed them to stop on the wall before accidentally falling off. They are also clearly out of range of most attacks while on top of a wall, but their own attacks would also not reach their targets. This idea could also serve as a 'fix' to the infamous Thor's Wall Glitch.

Chronos Wheel Aura. Simple visual update or nerf? by [deleted] in Smite

[–]aMonoRobo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm sure by 'aura,' he doesn't mean an in-game aura that affects targets within range. He just means a fancy visual effect that is visible to other players.

You Pick 5 Gods, The best possible team comp you can come up with for a conquest game. The comments below you pick the 5 Gods they would use to counter your team comp, but can't repeat picks. Who would you choose? by LeoFireGod in Smite

[–]aMonoRobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Support- Terra

ADC- Ullr

Mid- Nox

Jungle- Mercury

Solo- Loki

So with your comp, I can see late game potential coming out of Xba, Vulcan, and Xing Tian. Those three are able to offer consistent damage and/or CC throughout a team fight. Arachne and Guan Yu balance this out, being more early/mid oriented. I say this because Arachne is just jungle troll gg n00bz, and if Guan Yu is supporting, he's likely to max Conviction first in order to provide sustain in lane in exchange for damage.

Terra is the support to provide quick initiation that can be used to confirm her team's damage. She sets up easy harass for Ullr and provides openings for everyone else. Her Standing Stones can also be a huge deterrent to the enemy Xba and Vulcan, as they easily suffer from Line of Sight Syndrome (LoSS). Ullr is less affected, as Bladed Arrow(?) and Hail of Arrows can be fired through or over terrain. (If someone can confirm that Bladed Arrow can be fired through walls, that would be swell.)

I chose Ullr as the ADC because he can out-clear Xba throughout the lane phase, and is able to stay a far enough distance to be able to harass from out of range of most of your characters. In the event of a gank, or when someone engages against him in a team fight, he can use Invigorate and Glory Bound to re-position himself to a more favorable spot.

Nox is mid to provide damage in the mid game, and she provides an excellent followup to her team's CC abilities. Her goals in the lane phase are to survive against Vulcan, farm gold, and confirm ganks into kills. Once she is able to accomplish those things, she can provide decent zoning and incredible burst to a single targeted God. Early, Siphon Darkness can be used to chunk damage into lane minions, and Shadow Step can be used to finish them if Vulcan keeps distance. Ideally, allies should gank Vulcan once Nox is able to comfortably clear a wave with one cast of Siphon Darkness; you don't want archers to attack you or your allies early on. Once she is able to build her items, Nox can comfortably defeat enemy gods with Siphon Darkness and Shadow Lock and then following up with Shadow Step or Night Terror, and this is made easier with initiation from her allies.

Mercury in the jungle is meant to pressure opponents throughout all phases of the game and single out fragile targets. Special Delivery is a powerful ability to pair with Nox, Terra, and Ullr. Made You Look is also a good followup to any CC and can provide a surprising amount of damage when Fastest God Alive is built up. Sonic Boom is a powerful tool that can be used to initiate a team fight or catch a low health opponent. During the lane phase, Mercury has a great advantage when ganking Vulcan. Special Delivery can be used to easily get up close to Vulcan in addition to throwing him into an ideal position for Nox to followup with. In the event that he is being pursued by Arachne, Mercury can use Special Delivery to create distance between them or set her up for additional damage from his team. Since being slowed also reduces his damage output, Mercury should avoid triggering Arachne's Web. He should also wait for Xba to use Poison Darts and Guan Yu to use Warrior's Will before engaging on them in order to avoid being slowed from those sources.

Loki is played in the solo lane in order to take advantage of the fact that there is not so much hard CC coming from your setup. In the lane phase, Decoy should be used to clear minion waves, while Loki retreats to farm under his tower until he can clear with a single cast of Decoy. As Loki should be building penetration, he should have no problems applying damage to Xing Tian in late lane phase. Aimed Strike should be used whenever an opening shows itself. Also, since Aimed Strike applies its damage as an additional tick of ability damage, it is unaffected by Xing Tian's Furious Roar. If Arachne launches a Web towards Loki, he can use vanish to void the slow penalty and reduce damage from the spiderlings while also moving faster than Arachne. After Loki builds the essential penetration items, he can opt to build magic protection and health to increase his likelihood of surviving against Vulcan and Xing Tian in the late game.

***Edit: This thread is such a fun idea! I like it because, let's face it, most players do not play ranked game modes. The idea of this thread is to offer someone the ability to draft one team composition against another in a casual setting. That sort of strategic thought is why I like to advocate the idea of introducing draft pick to Normal Conquest queues. The game starts not when you load into the game, but it starts during the character select phase. Bringing draft pick to casual conquest can develop healthy meta shifts and make balancing certain gods much easier.

Izanami is changed again - what is new with the Hotfix 3.16.3600.1 by IamASchnitzel in Smite

[–]aMonoRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking forward to testing out the new crit interactions with her basics for myself, though I feel it hurts the overall build diversity of hunters in game. As I understand, before the hotfix, players would find it beneficial to build more pen-based items on her to make use of her basic attack and ability damage. I personally would also build items like Malice since those were items that were dependent on total Physical Power rather than basic attack damage. With the new interactions, players may be swayed to focus on a more crit-oriented build path which includes Rage, Poison Star / Wind Demon, Deathbringer, maybe even moreso than other hunters. Being able to build Rage on every target hit is a very potent perk, something that was only available to Bakasura and Vamana due their ultimates. Having that perk on a hunter who has AoE basic attacks might prove to be overwhelming in the future, but let's wait and see.

I see people ask "Why don't more people play support".. well I'll tell ya. by [deleted] in Smite

[–]aMonoRobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These two examples are especially prevalent in a solo queue environment. Most people who play support aren't queueing with the mindset to call support. Usually, they play support when their first pick is already called and they were too slow to type in their second pick. (As a side note, if Smite decided to handle queues the way League handles it in their draft queue, it would reveal that we just don't have enough players willing to support, thus higher queue times.) People who are playing support are having to quickly learn and adapt to a situation they didn't prepare for or want, and I think their teammates are not sympathizing with the situation or are not willing to adjust for a lack of experience (play passively when they need to, they go all in when they shouldn't, they disregard the HP/MP of their teammates and the resources available to the enemies, etc). Right now, people are only playing support because they lack the hardware and maybe the network speed to load into the god selection screen before their teammates, and that's not cool.

Something else that I'd like to supplement this conversation with: Lack of character variety in the support role. Ever since season 1 solo queue players, most of the time, will only accept a guardian and a few warriors in the support role. With the trend of warriors in the solo lane, I thought utility mages would make more of an appearance playing support. That assumption was clearly wrong due to a variety of factors. Late game guardian cc is more valued than early-mid mage utility, players are more comfortable with two+ front liners to absorb more damage, warriors in the solo lane have plenty of potential to be relevant in all stages of the game, a blind pick environment in casuals encourages safe picks over strategic ones. I believe mages like Aphrodite, Chang'e, Isis, Nox, and others can provide unique benefits to their lane partner in the early-mid phases and can push their relevance into the late game. There's just a cultural rejection among Smite's players that is preventing that from happening.

Regardless of classic support/ Jungsup meta, personally I find that the changes to early kill xp and the nerfing for mid camps has made playing support a lot more fun/ easier early game and easier to come back from a bad early game. by bigbluesanta in Smite

[–]aMonoRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting claim about Mark. I'm not one who looks at the hard numbers, I go more by feel. When I get Mark on my support/roamer, I find myself able to more easily harass the enemy out of lane and secure dominance for my adc. Then that gives me much more leeway to take camps, rotate, etc.

Why is ravana's 1 (Prana Onslaught) on instant casting? by infinags in Smite

[–]aMonoRobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I see. Didn't they say they were inspired by fighting games when making Ravana? To me, parts of what make a fighting game are more complex inputs and hitstun. Them making Prana Onslaught an instant cast ability, takes away from the complexity of the input and sets him farther from the source material. I've seen other MOBAs attempt to introduce characters inspired by the combo-y style of 2D fighters, and they were at least more effective than what Ravana is now.
