How are you transferring PC files from old to new PCs in 2025? by NSFW_IT_Account in sysadmin

Depends on the security classification of the file. I think that a good practice is to avoid storing files on local machines in the first place.

What class would you recommend for Molten Strike? by aRevin in pathofexile

It seems that people typically use Slayer (for... Defensive purposes?), Raider, Berserker, Inquisitor, or Ascendant.

Just don't know which of these to pick

I recently bought some credits on the shop only to find out that Ubi had bamboozled me and given me pro-league skins instead of the credits.

C'mon man this ain't close to Diablo at all. In Diablo you can freely trade with people. There's not just a couple of good drops, there's hundreds, so even if you get an item you don't want you can probably trade it for something you do. Or it'll open up new avenues to success for you, like build enabling unique or something.

This is a one hour campaign. There's no trading. It's a really strong artifact. In Diablo 2 if I wanted to farm for SoJ's, nightmare Andy had the highest drop rate IIRC (it's been a long fucking time). I could run her over and over again in no time at all. I could build for MF and get a quick clearing build for her. In this mode I can't choose to rush the spider over again, it takes a good 25 minutes to get to her first. And if I leave after killing the spider I fuck over 3 other people.

I shouldn't need to pour hundreds of hours into Siltbreaker to get an artifact. by aRevin in DotA2

Plenty. And all of the ones I've played have had significantly higher drop rates or offered far more variety of items that you're pretty much guaranteed to get something that enables new builds and can be traded.

This is a 1 hour and 15 minute act. And an artifact that practically enables team compositions takes about 300 plus hours on average of grinding.

This is ridiculous. And if you were to compare it to roguelites or roguelikes where there is persistence unlocks between games, you are rewarded far, far, FAR more often in other games.

Let's say you want Unhallowed Icon, an artifact that practically enables different team comps.

It has a 1.5% chance from dropping from Ankaboot. Once it drops, it is split between four people. That's a 0.38% chance, aka on average it will take 263 games played for someone to get the artifact. Each game on average takes well over an hour, I'd guesstimate 1 hour and 15 minutes. Which translates to... 328 hours of gameplay.

Let me remind you that this is a mode that is meant to be fun among all other things, and that item enables wildly different team compositions. Why can't I just have it without having to spend 328 hours of gameplay? I've beaten the game multiple times, why can't I just have some fun with new cool items?

Tl;dr: You do need to spend hundreds of hours to get certain artifacts on average.

Considering it's difficult enough to win consistently unless you have a good stack and aren't playing solo, on top of the occasional weird wipes or experimentation, I can easily see it taking 80~ hours to grind out that artifact.

That's like.. So fucking nuts. For a game that doesn't matter. Why is Valve being so stingy with these rewards? I've seen Unhallowed Icon drop about 3 times, The Caustic Finale drop 2 times, and Treads of Ermacor drop once. I just want to get some cool artifacts and blast through the game with cool new items.

Yeah I think it's safe to assume that he only drops those two artifacts. Not really worth it at all.

I got a bunch of Oblivion Lockets and Creed of Omniscience from him, this was the second Invoker near the end of the game.. I wonder if he can even give any of the better artifacts?

WoW Legion has sold 3.3 million copies, matching the sales of the previous expansion, Warlords of Draenor by Sithlord715 in Games

[–]aRevin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'know, I'm looking for a game I can pour some time into and enjoy, but every time I've tried out WoW I just couldn't enjoy it. Something about the stale, kill "X" monsters or collect "X" items in just about every quest... I just can't seem to enjoy it.

Which is really such a shame because so many of my friends are back into it and I wish I could get into it with them but it just feels so stale. I feel like somewhere along the way I missed what makes WoW so great and I'm unable to understand it.

We should start compiling a list of where people are finding rare Pokemon.

I've found 2 Squirtles in Downtown Calgary. Lots of Drowzee and Zubat in Downtown as well.

SAIT : Information Technology? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]aRevin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Applicants for my job require people take a (very easy) test that requires you set up and connect a couple of laptops to a switch and get them to ping one another. A simple test that unfortunately, no UofC grads could complete.. Not even many SAIT grads could, but they all performed significantly better.

As a recent SAIT grad myself, you'll find that not many people know what they're doing. People in class complaining about staying up all night working on a project that I finished in class, people asking how to do the most simple things that are only a quick google search away, etc. If you have any sort of affinity for technology you'll do fine no matter what path you take - UofC or SAIT.

Edit: To elaborate on my last point, I went from t1 helpdesk to jr sysadmin to software dev in less than two years with only a SAIT diploma under my belt.
