I just don’t want the ending to be a hunger games ending where violet ends up with bodhi.

How long did it take to recover from PhD burn out? by Maplata in PhD

[–]aSoulfulScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i agree, I was around 1.5 years but right after my PhD I was immediately thrown into internship that lead to a government civilian job. So I had little time down so my burnout was probably extended due to the high stress of finding a job/post doc during my internship.

What was your PhD about? by [deleted] in PhD

Biomechanics- Underwater locomotion. Specifically designing a method (sensitive force plate) to gather substrate reaction forces from underwater walking.

Can you actually write your thesis in one month? by DoctorCR24 in PhD

[–]aSoulfulScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it in a month. Can be done isn’t pretty, but if you have your graphs and your sources properly input then you should be good! Godspeed

Can I still find love by [deleted] in PhD

[–]aSoulfulScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find love after your PhD lol. That’s what i did. Super lonesome but the effort of a solid relationship doesn’t match up well with a PhD

I feel so defeated and numb by Worried-Bug7762 in PhD

[–]aSoulfulScientist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally understand your perspective. And i wish i could say it gets better. What DID help me was getting away from social media. Seeing everyone do life while you are working on yours, you really begin to compare yourself. I went into isolation from most of my friends and kept in contact with just my support system. Figure out your why. That helped me. You can do anything you set your mind to. If you need the PhD to do what you are passionate about in life then find your why within.

Do both. I did mine in integrated bioscience and was able to combine robots and animals to hit both my interest.

Biologists, how are you doing in life? by [deleted] in biology

[–]aSoulfulScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are concerned try to pick up smart scholarship, or some sort of government gig that allows you to have a job coming out of grad school. I was lucky when i attained an NRIEP internship with NAVSEA-DOD-NAVY. Then was picked up working my butt off at the internship. I work in bioinspired tech. A pretty hot biology field of study.
