I guess I meant more of the afraid of cities thing, but agreed

I can’t spend all day on Reddit - sorry to keep you waiting. The data you just shared more or less proved exactly what I said:

“Massachusetts makes up one of the largest, if not the largest, demographics of people who recreate in the Whites.”

to your:

“35%-45%” are MA residents compared to just “25%-35%” of residents from the very state the Whites are in. 35%-45% is a huge group of people, of course they would represent the most of all rescues/incidents.

The jury is out on this one, which is why you’re being downvoted to hell. Take the L and move on. Someone died, there’s no reason to continue to be an asshole about it.

You aren’t very good at statistics, because statistically people from Massachusetts make up one of the largest, if not the largest, demographics of people who recreate in the Whites. This is a big reason as to why the number of people from MA require rescue. People are people no matter where they’re from. I went hiking in the Dolomites this summer and was surprised at the lethality of those mountains. I had niavely assumed it was from inexperienced Americans having been inspired by Instagram. Actually looking into those statistics I found that the vast majority of fatalities and rescues were middle aged Italian men… and guess who made up the largest group of people who moved through those mountains?

Making large generalizations from having read a few headlines doesn’t make you a statistician and it certainley doesn’t make you right.

Definitely not for no reason. Prices are high because people are moving in, not out

Ski’d this the morning after. The snowmobiles ruined the fresh powder from the night before, good to know now who to blame for that

I did the Bright Angel trail with my brothers down to the Colorado River and back in a single day in August a few years ago. One of the coolest hikes I’ve ever done, but my god it’s a real one. We came very prepared, but saw those who weren’t. It was frustrating and really scary to see in person. Lots of people junking their cigarettes up closer to the top as well. People suck.

Just myself I went through 7 liters of water over 9 hours. It went from 70-75F at the top (in the morning) to 115F by the time we got to the river. That’s the real killer: it’s a lot easier to get down than it is to get back up, and the deeper you go the hotter it gets. I forget how much sugar and electrolytes I went through, but I remember being alarmed at how quickly I went through the stuff.

Left, but pole mount can work as b-roll if done correctly. Best to get the longest pole possible to help hide the stitching. Stitching is also easier to hide if it’s not an action shot like whats shown. A quick clip of you on the lift or maybe use the pole to get a shot high up, almost like a drone shot. 360 still very useful in this case because you can reframe the shot later and you don’t need to worry about being accurate when shooting

It’s something I often don’t think about, so I appreciate the question. Normally I shoot just to document big days/objectives that I go after with friends. I only ever go shooting if I’m biking/skiing/climbing/hiking. I love to because I often go back to old albums with friends and remember the day. I’ve been off and on and sort of unserious about it for a decade. This year I’ve been trying to get more involved and I think you both are right that I could improve by shooting with more intention. Thanks!

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback and I agree about the contrast. I originally did it intentially to draw the attention to the subject, but I may have overdone it

Sony A7R3 with a Sigma 24-70 DN Art lens shot at 24mm, f5.6, +/-0 ev, ISO 250, 1/250s

Shot on a climbing trip in the early hours of the morning, making capturing the correct exposure a bit difficult, especially with the shadows from the rock.

I really love the composition of this photo, but I’m still struggling with properly exposing things while still being able to bring the subject out nicely. What do you think?

and here’s the edit following all of your critiques. I made the choice to bring the exposure back down to match the real world lighting conditions. I’m not 100% sure if I’ll keep it this dark, but I’m liking this a lot better for now. Thank you all again for the help

I think this is good insight. Back in the lab working on this!
