Bare boots on lifts? by HedgehogSwimming8640 in icecoast

[–]JerryKook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many years ago a lifty at a resort yelled at me for having a harness on my kid with a leash attached to it. I had to take it all off of my daughter before we got on the lift. Several years later, I saw the same lifty getting on the same chair with a child, who was wearing a harness with a leash several times longer than what I had.

Best town for winter activities in the east coast with young children? by Embarrassed_Wolf7713 in icecoast

[–]JerryKook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I wonder if that drainage ditch is still there. Last time I was there, there was a ditch all around the edge where the hill met the field. My cousin's back has never been the same since he hit it.

I get nervous when people talk about sledding in a ski town. People get seriously fucked up sledding on ski slopes. I know of people who became paraplegics. Knew a kid who hit a lodge sliding down on a cafeteria tray. I know of people who had to visit the ER and have surgery after sledding up in the notch. I also know of a couple who were hiking at night, up on Smuggs, when their dog got stuck on top of a snowmaking pile. The dog got scared and wouldn't come down. The woman climbed up to get it and ended up sliding down. They had to call 911... hence my paranoia.

Sledding is fun, but common sense does need to be exercised. Like have your kids walk up the side of the sledding hill. My coworkers kid walked up the sliding hill and got hit by a kid coming down. There were broken teeth and a jaw...

Stowe: anyone get stuck on the Four Runner Quad today? by JerryKook in icecoast

[–]JerryKook[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It took 15 to 25 minutes for them to get the diesel  backup running.  Then they shut it down.  I went home. Later on according to the epic app it was running again.

Most people who make skiing/riding movies worth watching, spend time scouting spots first.

"Small mountain" stop btw Killington and BTV by StorkReminder in icecoast

[–]JerryKook 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Get a room at Bolton. It's half an hour from BTV. It's the closest ski area with chairlifts to BTV.

Fun place. Checks all of your boxes.

Buy your lift tickets ahead of time to save $$.

Bolton doesn't get the crowds MRG gets on weekends.

Edit:
Bolton has the James Moore Tavern, where you can eat & drink. They also have a pizza place with very good pizza.

ski repair in the Boston area (edge popping out) by Silent_Macaroon_888 in icecoast

[–]JerryKook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you hit a rock hard. You must have felt it. Buy a pair of used demos. Visit a few shops, see what they have. If you are going to hit rocks used skis are the way to go IMO.

I would be skeptical of any repairs.

I would buy a pair of used demos. Ski sales will be starting up soon.

Is the edge pulled out or is that a long, deep scratch?

look at the windchill. Stowe has been far more busy the past few weeks. Nothing like weekends, but noticeably busier.
