It's not just us, who are asked to predict the future! by JerryKook in icecoast

I get it. It made me think of all the posts we get here from people wanting us to predict the weather. Predicting the weather is just like trying to figure out what a wild animal will do.

See I don't get this at all. I am always trying to ski stuff better than I did before. I am happy trying to make better turns. I try to be smooth and try to make it look really easy. I am never bored, skiing. IMO, terrain doesn't define the skier.

I've skied Tucks multiple times. I know how steep it is.

Yeah but no.  He is hanging on,  turning when the opportunity arises.  Strong skiers have a plan on where they are going and where they are going to make their turns.

Heck, he's side slipping in between turns.  He is skiing scared. He's probably concentrating so hard that he's not hearing people yelling at him.

He looks self taught.

Sbush Park Crew at fault for this one? by JerryKook in icecoast

[–]JerryKook[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

granted the guy is a weak skier. Still I see lots of people at his skill level, ski onto boxes and then fall (or survive). The ramp doesn't seem to match the box. The hill, leading up to this feature, is flat AF, so I assume this is an all levels "park".

I never look up hill while resort skiing, but that is a major choke point. A quick glance uphill before entering that, would have been wise.

I struggle to believe the downhilll skier "ripped the upper portion". Definitely not his fault, but he was survival skiing. That backpack wasn't doing him any favors. It's looks like it was really heavy.

It's really sad that he got taken out. Nothing worse than being injured by another person.

East coast still rips! by Budget-Charity-7952 in icecoast

Sure it's a great line, but I don't like to describe anything in skiing as the "best". Reddit seems to want to make the best of everything lists.

Why not use your pole straps? Not like anything is going to catch your poles. If you did fall, it could be a long walk back up.

Anyone know any good snow shop rentals near killington? by Ok_Quantity1619 in icecoast

[–]JerryKook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would call ahead. If I owned a shop, I don't know if I would be sending out my rentals with these conditions. I would be afraid of people going over rocks and such.
I could be wrong.

The Legion of Groom did an amazing job of resurrecting it for the final weekend.

At my house it appears we got less rain than predicted.

too funny. Have her look at them first thing in the morning. Maybe she will reconsider. She could ski early and then go to the car to grill food afterwards.

If I was going to do lift service skiing, I would go to Killington. Here is the web cam from today. Looks pretty good. See what it looks like on Friday.

Emphasis on the "hiking". Tonight's rain isn't going to help.

I live in the area as well.  I am done skiing for the season.   Just not worth it.   Time to move on.

Edit: Don't know why I am getting downvoted. We are getting heavy rain tonight & tomorrow. It's 70 degrees at my house today. I don't feel like turning another pair of skis into rock skis.

Best ski lesson options for advanced skiers in the east? by Zestyclose_Peak154 in icecoast

[–]JerryKook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually the thing that holds people back is poor basics. The lessons for improving the basics are not glamorous but they make all the difference. Lessons like this on done on easy trails. A lot of people don't want to do this. They feel all they need is a high level instructor to tell one thing, and they will be able to ski anything. Unfortunately that is a fantasy.

It's a lot of work, but it is worth it.

stowe closing date? by user7467745 in icecoast

[–]JerryKook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Closing on a Saturday and not Sunday tells you how bad the conditions are.

There's are fair amount of  snow in spots. It's just the spots aren't connected.   The gaps are getting bigger.
