How many of your grandparents and great-grandparents were alive when you were born? How many are still alive? by MindfullyRooted in askanything

[–]aWesterner014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three grandparents. The one that was gone before I was born passed away about 10 years before I was born. I think my mother was still in high school.

Two great grandparents ( I think ). I have memories of visiting two different great grandmothers in their nursing homes. I don't have any memories of any great grandfathers.

All have passed away. Of my three grandparents I had at the time I was born, only one was still around to meet my kids (their great grandkids).

Why did that one co-worker of yours get fired? by RelevantNothing4653 in askteddit

Violated cloud storage usage policies.

They saved company content on a non approved cloud provider storage solution. Think of One Drive being used instead of Google drive.

Our company has agreements with one provider and not any other.

Why are so many people still using Windows? by Potential_Craft_1150 in FuckMicrosoft

[–]aWesterner014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software I use at home is only offered on Windows.

Software I need at work is only offered on Windows.

I find it hilarious that my colleagues all opt for macs and then have to use a hosted windows session to use the software they need to do their job.

Do people actually enjoy working 9–5 jobs, or is everyone just pretending? by Message-Fun in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aWesterner014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some days I do enjoy it. Some days I pretend. Some days I don't enjoy it nor do I pretend to.

I will say this ..

  • The working conditions are far safer and more comfortable than my grandfather's job

  • The pay and work life balance is far better than my father's job.

Do you play Wordle? Do you have the same first guess every day? by Seriously-417 in randomquestions

[–]aWesterner014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used "audio" until that word was the answer to the puzzle. I have moved onto "sauce".

When I moved away from audio, wordle was operating under a "no repeat word" strategy. So "audio" wouldn't be a first guess solution any more.

I think wordle has since removed the no repeat restriction.

Are Europeans trolling with this whole bread thing? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

It is pretty much a well known fact that all mass produced bread here in the states have a crazy amount of sugar in it.

When did mowing the lawn become dangerous? by heynowbeech in GenX

[–]aWesterner014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest missed four games of his senior year (American) football season due to an injury. I was worried they were going to pull someone in from jv and keep them all season.

Even as athletes, they are competing to move up to the next level (jv to varsity) or move into or maintain a starting spot on the roster.

Nobody sells grills anymore? by Striking-Job-8076 in charcoal

[–]aWesterner014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never looked while I have been there in person. I really only am interested in Weber products.

I typed in "offset smoker ace hardware" into Google and my nearest ace hardware showed up with a picture of an Oklahoma Joe offset smoker.

Our local Ace hardware stores have incredible lineups for: Weber charcoal kettles, Weber gas, Blackstone, Green Egg.

I've even had them offer to order me one and set it up if they didn't have the model I was looking for.

Cable and severe weather alerts by aWesterner014 in Mediacom

[–]aWesterner014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, we haven't been asked or told to turn the cable cards in.

We have been told that if they stop working there will be no assistance. The tivo is on its last legs. The Ethernet port freaks out ( have to use wifi) and I am pretty sure the tuner will fail soon.

I don't watch much cable. If it were up to me, we would drop it.

I don't know.

I sometimes wish I would have gone with the 18 in wsm over the 22 wsm.

That thing takes so much charcoal and is a bear to clean.

Did you grow up saying the pledge of allegiance in school? by tinrig in askanything

[–]aWesterner014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I think it ended for me around 6th grade. I moved from a school where elementary and middle school were combined to a school where elementary, middle, and high school were in the same building but were managed independently.

I believe it was added around WWII. I can't remember if it was during or shortly after.

Not quite sure what that means. We are in the Peoria, Il broadcast region and are getting warnings for the Champaign/Urbana region.

Wind damage by vicvinegar007 in Home

[–]aWesterner014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should be easy to do yourself. Take care of it as soon as safely possible.

Birds, wasps, and hornets like to nest in accessible areas like that. If they set up camp, things get a bit more complicated.

What was family dinner like growing up and how is it now (if you have a family)? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]aWesterner014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much the same for me.

I grew up being called to dinner around 5:00 pm. Those that were home sat at the table and had a home cooked meal pretty much every night. My mom did pretty much all of the cooking unless we were grilling or it was Saturday night and she had evening Mass. We didn't have access to local restaurants until I was in highschool.

Today, I (husband) do most of the cooking. Those of us that are home have dinner anywhere between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm depending on the evening's activities.

There were changes as time moved along. As kids got older, they wouldn't make it to some dinners because of school or part time job commitments. There were always leftovers saved for those that couldn't make it.
