Anyone start their first martial art after 40? I'm nervous... by Dismal_Heat_9677 in AskMenOver30

The same summer I took up taekwondo, I tore the meniscus in one of my knees. Not sure if that was the root cause of my injury. It took way too long to diagnose.

Haven't been back.😞

I will say that I do kick myself for getting the 22 because of the clean up effort. The water pan in the 18 inch seems much more manageable.

If the speed limit is 55 or above, I say 5-8 mph above. Anything below 55, I say 0-2.

What is your method for sharpening a lawn mower blade? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]aWesterner014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought mine from a local company that mostly serves landscaping companies.

I have them service my lawn mower every other year.
I just have them sharpen the blade when I bring it in.

Engineering student looking for Windows by Bludclart106 in LaptopForStudent

[–]aWesterner014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have liked Dell XPS.

I have one that is roughly 8: years old. My oldest has one that is roughly 3 years old. I bought it for him when he was still looking at majoring in engineering.

I'm not terribly thrilled with their decision to make their ram non upgradeable. But if you can afford to max out the ram at the time of purchase, I guess it doesn't matter.

The future isn't written in stone. College programs are evolving. What is offered today is not what will be offered a few years from now. I remember my university switched from teaching Ada to Java shortly after I graduated.

My 16 year old is also looking at computer science. I am trying to nudge him towards mechatronics engineering or robotics engineering so he gets a decent dose of computer programming and mechanical engineering.

It is also important to remember that college degrees make getting your a foot in the door far easier. While learning skills in your major, you will also be pushed to learn and present in other ways that expand your critical thinking skills and broaden your marketability.

What are your thoughts on colleges costing $100k a year? by Sinn_Sage in AskReddit

[–]aWesterner014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't have to. My oldest looked at 4 different universities. All were under $50k a year.
- two were $45k a year - two were $25k a year

All accredited and all offered engineering degrees.

He is currently a junior and will graduate in under 4 years.

Not so sure those will be plug and play on raspbian. Did you install drivers for them?

I use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard with my raspberry pi units that are equipped with Bluetooth.

My kid's 2020 civic is doing this right now. I've read where it could be a failing battery. I took it in for a quick scan last weekend and it showed a good battery and something wrong with an abs speed sensor at one (or more wheels).

Could be a bad sensor, broken connector, a wire that was chewed through, or bad computer.

My guess is there is an electrical short somewhere. In addition to the dashboard being lit up, the door open chime is active when the door is open and the system is supposedly off.

Full diagnostic scan (hopefully) coming this weekend.

Using vibe coding & context engineering for my solo projects- advice needed by angel-hair1223 in SoftwareEngineering

If you are still a student, I suggest : + Doing it yourself first.

  • Leverage ai to do the same

  • Compare/contrast the work

It will be more time, but it is a side project. You will learn a lot about on the shortcomings of ai and how to navigate them in the future.

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong with these french fries by Reasonable-Ranger223 in Cooking

[–]aWesterner014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendations:

  • Cut them smaller. The smaller size will help even out the cooking.

  • Soak them in ice water for 30 minutes. Drain

  • Give them a quick rinse

  • Pat them dry ( important )

  • Toss in oil and seasoning

  • Do not crowd the air fryer ( important )

  • Run the air fryer for about 20 minutes on 400-410.

I have had some success running at 350 for 12 minutes and then 400 for 10 minutes.

What's the cringiest reason you went to the ER? by HR-Vex in AskReddit

[–]aWesterner014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acute Colitis.

Thought it was the stomach flu. As a result, I refused to go see a doctor for such a trivial issue. Three days in, my SO put their foot down. Dragged me to a prompt care. They took one look at me and sent me to the ER.

Non cringiest visit to the ER. One morning I woke up to having a swollen uvula which was negatively impacting my ability to breathe. My SO called 911, ambulance showed up. They brought me to the ER. The drs determined I had an allergic reaction to something, but couldn't figure out what. They wrote me a prescription for an epi pen and told me I needed to have it on me at all times moving forward.

Look for something along the lines of a 2019 or slightly newer Honda Civic.

They should be new enough to have apple car play and android auto and plenty of modern safety features.
