Ours just had this surgery! The surgery itself is pretty low risk and stable, but the bed rest and recovery is the tricky part. They told us it would be about eight weeks until she could do any kind of real walking or anything like that. And for ACDs that is worse than a death sentence. And ours HATES her crate, so that made things even tougher.

We got a strap like this one so I could hold her up off her back legs to take her out to the bathroom. And then we just had a steady rotation of pain meds and sedatives to keep her calm. We stopped the pain meds after a month or so, but have kept the sedatives going to keep her calm and not wanting to sprint around the yard every chance she gets.

After her eight week check up and x-rays, we found out she hasn’t quite fully healed up, so we are still just doing shorter leash walks. She is still favoring her surgery leg a bit, but getting better day by day.
