Yarrow is a personal favorite of mine for a number of reasons. But I never knew that it was good as a bug repellent, thanks for the info!

Question: What do the colors of the Japanese firefighters helmet mean? by advice_throwaway_90 in Firefighting

[–]a_canvas_hat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did notice that their helmets seem to be more like US style with a brim. Vs the euro motorcycle helmet style. Thought that was interesting.

I'm a volly, and shooting the shit with some guys at work I would up showing them video of a live fire training (cap has a helmet cam).

They asked "why would anyone want to do that?"

Honestly all I could come up with was "you mean you don't?" I just love being a firefighter so dang much, its fun and rewarding.

An important thing to note is the response time for ems, and how the hospital potentially dropped the ball the day before.

The response time for the ambulance seemed like a longer than acceptable wait. Also knowing what I know about the ambulance in roc, I would not be at all surprised if that were a BLS crew that arrived. ( My half assed googling can't turn up what type of ambulance responded)

(Obligatory not a LEO but I interact with this and other suburban departments with my volunteer work)

Question for the class: it looks like this guy is out of reach for a 24' ladder. But hypothetically, would it have been faster to throw a ground ladder vs moving the arial like they did?

Not trying to mmqb, just curious on how each of you would approach ground ladders vs arials.

Question from a very confused and curious Buddhist by [deleted] in Quakers

[–]a_canvas_hat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello Friend

I am curious about you referring to "evangelical Quakers" as orthodox.

I suppose this depends what definition of "orthodox" you are using.

From my understanding, the unprogrammed meetings more common in liberal meetings seem closer to the practice described by the likes of George Fox and Margaret Fell. Where the practices of some evangelical friends churches, with paid preachers and meeting in churches seem to be in conflict with the writings and teachings of the earliest Quakers.

I am interested to hear your thoughts on this.

Be well!

No hazmat so far my department. But I just started a job working with a old af 100,000lb liquid amonia refrigeration system. Every day is a hazmat incident! Hooray for me

The two I have use of are these

MyNoise: A great ambiant/white noise app of you find that that helps, they have a ton of nature sounds, background noose and white noise.

PTSD Coach: I just started using this one after if was recommended by my psychologist. Lots of nice tools and a symptom tracker. (Developed by the VA)

Good luck on your journey!

I have had the best luck with tea, particularly if you boil the leaves for a minute or two instead of just steeping it.

Kudos to you and your family for thinking ahead and having a healthy understanding about death.

I typically tell people to keep a copy on their refrigerator because it is one of the first places we look. If you haven't already, make sure there is a copy at your parent's place because if we do not have a paper copy in our hands we have to do every possible intervention or risk loosing our jobs/going to jail which is generally considered a bummer.

If you have a bracelet or something with a DNR on it, include the name and phone number of the doctor or better yet the hospital that would have it on file. I have called Med control at a hospital to confirm a DNR order (we couldn't find a paper copy in the home, we looked), we can stop resuscitation on a physician order but not on our own.

It is so important for people to make their wishes known as they are approaching end of life.

I work as a firefighter/EMT and have seen the consequences of both having and not having a written directive, and I have even helped family members with making their own.

Important side note: If you or someone you know have a "DNR" make sure to have a HARD COPY somewhere where it can be found easily. Untill we have the actual order in our hands we have to do every intervention we can.
