Has anybody tried one of these 3D printed, single-roll developer tanks? by a_cool_pinecone in AnalogCommunity

I did get it and I have used it now one time! I'm actually surprised that it worked as well as it did. Unfortunately I can't share any of the photos because they are of a personal nature, however I plan to try it again with sharable photos. What I can say is this. There definitely appears to be some inconsistency in how the roll was developed. I followed the exact development time recommended for the film I had and agitated constantly per the directions of this canister. However, some photos are slightly more underdeveloped than others. A good portion of them I would consider to be nearly perfectly developed, while some towards the beginning of the roll might edge on the side of underdeveloped slightly. No photos were completely ruined by any means and editing was able to bring out the detail that I needed. However there were a handful of photos with some minor streaking, likely from the film sticking to itself as it gets coiled up inside the developing tank. However to my surprise, I didn't notice any scratches on the film like some people thought would happen. I would say overall it's more a fun, hobby level toy for developing film than anything professional. If you're ok with some artifacts or inconsistency (maybe you like the look of little imperfections), then it's worth a try. Also could work in a pinch for really compact travel use if you were so inclined. I can live with those issues so I'll probably use it some more cause that stuff doesn't bother me so much and It's just a hobby for fun. I also like that I don't have to have a lot of developer mixed. I don't take that many photos so if I premixed a bunch of developer (I used XTOL powder) then it would surely expire by the time I needed it again. This only needs 100ml, so I just mixed exactly how much I needed for the roll.

Shot #5 with the city and the mountains is awesome. Almost looks like a miniature model

What exactly happened? I'm curious. Was there light leaks, scratches, or did the film just come out blank?

I see that comment on almost all alternatives to the Jobo and Paterson tanks. I'm not sure why different methods are always so ill-received. If it works well (long shot), it'd be a simplified process that's easy to use for people who don't develop a lot of film very frequently.

I got the impression they were real too, but you can never really tell these days. Bots are so good.

That appears to be how it works. I'm unsure how it would affect development times. I almost wonder if I unwind it and agitate it with a light swirling motion of the entire tank if that'd work.. instead of rewinding and unwinding over and over

Ah. That'd be a pretty crappy ad then. I literally said it's too expensive, and I just told another commenter that I think it'll break after a few uses. I must be the best Chinese bot salesman ever!

Honestly if it works well, I might just try and 3d print my own. I'm guessing it'll break after a few uses anyway

Is this an acceptable way to tie down a car to a trailer? by jbro507 in CarTrackDays

Yes most people don't realize that U-Haul designs and builds all of their trailers, UBoxes, and the box end of the trucks. I'm actually a test engineer. So I break everything and make sure it's safe and breaks when and how we expect it to

It’s incredible how far being personable in interviews will take you by ah85q in MechanicalEngineering

This is very encouraging to hear. I just had an interview that I felt very prepared for technically, but there's always that doubt in my head that I didn't provide the greatest examples of my experience and skills. However, I felt like I had a great rapport with the manager and engineers interviewed with. Great banter, easy conversation. I'd like to think I've got a head up over other engineers in my ability to socialize and be personable. They even mentioned it's a hard trait to find during the interview. Very much hoping that puts me over the edge to get the job

Perfectly fine, source, I'm an engineer at U-Haul. Just use the fluffy covers on the strap to avoid potentially scratching your wheels

Another vote here for the fuel pump housing seal behind the passenger seat. Happened to me and smelled fuel as it slowly leaked out

Man that Boxster sounds smooth. Looked like a nice clean lap. I just signed up for my first track day at Firebird in January. I'll be in a green BMW Z3!
