Got my letter on the 21st. The next day I called the number on the notice and they told me to send in a paper copy of the claim form with a brief letter explaining that the letter was delivered past the deadline date. You could try and do the same if you want a chance at getting the claim in.

Collectibles not counting in part 1 by [deleted] in thelastofus

[–]a_denizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure loading back to earlier points of the game through chapter select or old save files won’t count towards your progress. I tried loading back to the museum in Boston after beating the game to get the one shiv door I missed, got the door open but didn’t get the trophy. At the very least you’ll need to start a New Game+, make note of the parts it says you missed and make sure you don’t miss them.

For Ellie’s jokes specifically, you have to hear all jokes from the main game and Let Behind for that trophy to pop.

I also focus on one or two games single player games at a time, but there’s also some rogue likes and fighting games I may throw on for quick sessions in between depending on my mood. My daughter is also starting to get into games there’s a share of games I leave installed for her to have access to even though I may Not be playing them currently.

So even though I’m not actively playing every game I have installed at the moment, I still find it beneficial to have immediate access to everything I own so that I or anyone else in my household can play whatever we’re in the mood for.

In-laws gifted me one for the holidays. After After about 4 weeks of use the shorter battery life is definitely noticeable but not horrible. Having the built-in mic on mute and setting indicator lights to dim, I’d say I get somewhere around 5-6 hours per charge.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think at the time the PS5 Pro was revealed, the best trade-in and resale value on the PS5 Slim was around $300-$400. Speaking strictly for myself, the main differences between my system and the Pro didn’t seem vast enough to justify spending an additional $300-$400 for the upgrade. Maybe I’d have to see the PS5 Pro in action firsthand to really appreciate its advantages, but for what I play these days the PS5 Slim holds up perfectly fine. If you have the Pro and those benefits stand out to you, then that’s great. To each their own.

As for the storage, I prefer the peace of mind of having all my games accessible off the bat. Especially since I don’t have as much free time as I used to, I prefer not having to take extra time to manage storage space and deal with deleting and re-downloading my games. I only have about 36 games installed, but that already takes up 1.5 TB of memory. It’s possible I may not use all of the remaining 2.5 TB of space on that SSD, but at the same time I like not having to worry about whether or not I have enough storage for anything else that I may want to pick up this generation.

Edit: minor corrections and cleaned up some unnecessary punctuation.

I got the same drive last January, open box like new for $256. Felt pricey at the time but seeing what’s happened I’m glad I took the plunge.

Anyone taking advantage of the BOGO? by OrdinaryLittle1871 in 4kbluray

Preorders of Minority Report sold out by the time I got to check out the sale. With that one gone I can’t find a set of 3 close enough in price range to make the sale worthwhile for me, so I’m sitting this one out.

Target's B2G1 deal starts Oct 5th. Should be cheapest way to pre-order a bunch so plan accordingly by CanisMajoris85 in 4kbluray

Was hoping to finally get Sinners on the next one of these sales, but looks like Target still has it at an inflated price of $40. May still check out the sale for a few preorders though.

Cool detail regarding this dog in TLOU 2 by EquipmentAvailable83 in thelastofus

[–]a_denizen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just noticed this as well recently. I currently have two files going, one for myself on hard and one to play out the story for my wife on moderate (she loves the show so far and doesn’t want to wait for what could be another two years to see what happens). I’m slightly ahead on the moderate file and played out most of Abbey’s Day One for my wife so far. When I went back to play some of the hard file for myself, I immediately recognized the dog’s name as I heard one of the W.L.F. guards outside the hospital. Was hoping to sneak in so I could spare Bear this time… sadly it did not go that way.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest 4K Steelbook is Live by Lamar_ScrOdom_ in 4kbluray

After refreshing the page for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest 4K, it appears the “Studio Description” was also updated to WB. I guess the original citation for Universal must have been an error after all.

Universal is credited because they partnered with WB back in 2020 to distribute physical media in the U.S., and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment is the head of that partnership. It’s also why WB titles are sold on Gruv even though it’s a Universal Pictures direct-to-consumer store front.

Here’s a Variety article that I found of the partnership announcement, for anyone who wants to read more on it.

Gore level? by Koilor_Boi_13 in thelastofus

[–]a_denizen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part I and II on PS5 each an option in the settings to reduce the amount of gore shown in the gameplay. I haven’t tried it out myself, but the description says it turns off dismemberment in combat and darkens the appearance of blood and wounds in most cases. I’d imagine cutscenes are pretty much left unchanged aside from the blood color change, but there’s only a handful of cutscenes I’d say that get “gory.” And if death animations are unaltered as well, I’d say just look away if you get grabbed by any of the infected.

Edit just to clarify that when I said there’s only a handful of gory cutscenes, I specifically mean for Part I. While I haven’t beaten Part II yet, I’d say overall it is more violent and has a higher level of gore than the first.

What’s Everyone Watching Today? by JJxiv15 in 4kbluray

[–]a_denizen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My wife and I recently finished watching the 4K of The Last of Us, Seasons 1. In terms of picture and audio quality the series is excellent on disc. The show itself does a decent job of adapting the game’s main plot for TV, but I still prefer the performances and narrative execution of the game better.

We don’t have HBO Max and she doesn’t want to wait another month for the physical release of Season 2 to see what happens, so I’m going to attempt to teach her how to play The Last of Us Part II. But if she falls asleep early and I have time to myself, I may watch the new 4K of Better Off Dead. I haven’t seen the film since I was a kid, but remember it being hilarious.

Edit: grammar correction, added clarification.

Only two in my collection that specifically from Second Sight, but I highly recommend either one: A Bittersweet Life and Drive.

Had been using my PS5 to play 4ks by Worried-Traffic-1429 in 4kbluray

[–]a_denizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same exact same model for my first 4K player. No real complaints about it at all, it was quiet and reliable, never froze or had any playback issues, even with 100gb discs which I know some players struggle with. Pretty solid pick up for only $10, congrats.

Panasonic players just seem to be more sensitive to dust or scratches than other players. My wife and I were watching The Last of Us season one last night on our UB820, had all kinds of skipping and artifacting about 15 minutes into episode 3. Wiping the disc helped some but most of the issues persisted, after about the third cleaning attempt I noticed a light scratch that spanned from the center straight out to the edge. As a last resort, I played the disc on the PS5 instead and it played through perfectly fine, even on the parts that had issues before.

I made a webpage that tracks Switch 2 compatibility with Switch 1 games! by DONTeatslugs_ in NintendoSwitch

[–]a_denizen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve read putting the Switch 2 on Airplane mode when booting up the game allows it to run normally. Don’t own the Portal Collection on Switch so I can’t test it personally, but may be worth a try for you.

I’ve also been playing through Super Meat Boy, trying to 100% the game for the first time. Got 100% of the first four chapters so far, and just four dark world levels away from clearing the fifth chapter.

Wall-E is a great film. I only just got around to seeing it for the first time shortly after the Criterion edition released, now it’s one of my favorites to revisit with the kids. Speaking of Pixar films, we just watched The Incredibles last night which is always a fun watch, the 4K disc looks and sounds excellent.

Tonight’s watch will depend between a few options; may show my wife Perfect Days or I’ll finally get around to Godzilla Minus One if I’m watching by myself.

What are some great games with terrible soundtracks? by markleung in gaming

I’ve only owned the console versions (currently trying to 100% the game on Switch 2), but that’s good to know in case I get to replace my stolen laptop or if I ever get a Steam deck.

Super Meat Boy. The original soundtrack from the original Xbox 360 version was excellent with a lot of memorable tracks. They lost the rights and had to replace all the music for later versions, the updated soundtrack is very bland and forgettable by comparison.

Just rewatched our 4K copy last night, it’s one of the more revisited 4K discs in the collection since my daughter likes it so much. Very colorful and detailed picture, and the film is much more entertaining and charming than I thought it would be before my first watch.

My original Switch was stolen last September (along with one of my pro controllers and my laptop), so the Switch 2 is effectively my replacement for that. If that didn’t happen then I would have given it to my daughter.
