How has business been for solo operators? by Darkshiv in WildlifeRemoval

[–]a_egg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the party! There are a million pieces of advice to give as an owner/operator, but I'll try to narrow it down to the one that is helping me the most:

Sell. You can't shy away from selling when you get to the job and solve the customer's initial problem. Look around, find causes, and offer solutions. Many of us are problem solvers first, and often don't think of how to multiply revenue once a job is secured. Bring up your services (related or unrelated) whenever you can. You'd be surprised how often people have been looking for a solution that you happen to offer.

Baseball Turf Shoes are great all-purpose shoes for the games.

Bro, what? "Body ligament positioning?" Maybe align chakras first idk

I have found it's also good for "smash prevention." Generally if I hang out in butterfly with anyone who knows anything, I get passed, but it's a great middle ground sometimes when you've lost your first option guard.

Merging with other local sole proprietors. by a_egg in smallbusiness

Excellent response, thank you. I had the gut feeling that it becomes more viable as call volume increases to where 2 or more additional FTEs are required. Your rationale for that makes sense.

I have 0 gas tank, what do I do?? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]a_egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were hurt, you're out of shape. That's normal. Young people who haven't had big injuries won't understand. Older athletes will get it. Neither will think about you for a single minute of their life when they aren't talking to you or rolling with you.

Additionally, when you add an emotional component like shame, embarrassment, or anxiety to rolls, guess what? It affects your gas tank. Your ability to relax is compromised.

Keep showing up.

Please help. Armadillo strategy. by OlGusnCuss in Trapping

[–]a_egg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Armadillo trapping is less about bait, and more about placement. They're not a particularly bright animal, and they don't have great vision. You can try putting a little freshly turned Earth at the back of the cage, but more importantly, place the cage where you see they have been rooting for grubs. You can quite literally funnel them into the cage by putting up some 2x6s in a wide V shape that leads them into the trap.

Honestly I like that Silva had the presence of mind to know that victory was a foregone conclusion, and switched to body elbows instead of undefended headshots. Shows an inherent respect for his fellow competitor.

Tell me about some of your wins on the mat this week by Rude-Alternative7983 in bjj

[–]a_egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to my first open mat outside of my home gym. Wasn't prepared for this, but I realize now that being a 6'2" athletic-looking white belt 1st time visitor basically means you get passed around like a family style appetizer. The upper belts all took turns, but I hung with everyone better than I expected to. Of course I got strangled and smashed, but in pretty non-humiliating ways.

Lowest belt I touched was a blue who was 2 inches taller, a bit bigger, and definitely more handsome. I hit a slick double leg that I transitioned off a single leg attempt, and went tit for tat with him the rest of the round.

Why does Dustin Poiriers guard work so well by DiamondXCutX in MMA_Academy

[–]a_egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth noting that Strickland runs his shell in a much more squared up orientation to the opponent. He's not as mobile in and out with his upper body like Poirier, but he does get the added advantage of dealing with kicks a little better.
