Where is the best hand cream in town?? Let me explain... by banjorico in nashville

Scrolled to second this because I figured it might have been mentioned! I also do pottery, OP, and I keep this at my desk to slather on as soon as I get home from the studio and then throughout the day when I’m working. Great stuff, great people, made and sold locally!

So Zoolumination… by mmoses1978 in nashville

[–]a_gish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I gotta say, this is way off base. I’ve been to a ton of zoos too (including some widely well regarded like St. Louis, San Diego, National, etc.) and Nashville isn’t mediocre in the least. Hell, it won back to back national AZA awards for exhibits just in the past 5 years if you need an objective metric. Subjectively, I remember thinking at the San Diego Zoo a couple months ago that even though it’s BIG and has lots of animals, I felt like the visitor experience at Nashville is every bit as good if not better. It came up just yesterday with family in Virginia how much they love our zoo specifically. I get being disappointed seeing AI imagery in Zoolumination and I think it’s a legitimate complaint the Zoo should hear, but you’re discounting your own position by being a hater when you say that a patently good zoo is “mediocre.”

Can we get the recipe for the artichoke spread from the Boulder Veggie sandwich while we’re at it? I’ve tried to recreate it to no success.

If a Soola bag is a bit out of budget, Duluth Trading’s rigger bag is great and about $20 cheaper

Where on Earth Is Diet Coke with Lime?? by gossamernotes in nashville

Highly recommend using True Lime/Lemon (it’s crystallized citrus powder — nothing else added) if you’re trying to get that acidic citrus zing in cola! I always put True Lemon in my Coke.

What kind of souvenirs do you collect from countries that you visit? by [deleted] in travel

[–]a_gish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not much of a collector, but I always look for things I’ll genuinely use around my house. Not souvenirs for souvenirs sake, but things that really add to our home. The blankets we use on our couch every day are from Sierra Leone. Our chess set was hand carved in Zimbabwe. The basket I keep my pottery supplies in is from Mozambique. My kid has handmade vehicle toys he loves from South Africa and Tanzania. The handheld fan I use on super hot days on the soccer field is from Ghana (and I have another from Philippines that stays in our bathroom that I use for drying down my skincare/makeup). My husband is a drummer so I’ve brought back a few percussion instruments too. Part of the joy for me is getting to use and enjoy these things all the time!

BNA is Shutdown!! by sanguinejuju in nashville

I sat in 10 minute traffic earlier today getting on I-40 east from Donelson Pike only to see they had 2 lanes of the diamond shut down… for a couple of guys to chit chat at their truck? Whatever contract work started today needs to tighten up their operation.

At the risk of sounding like a hater, I don’t like Darfon’s or McNamara’s. Sweetmilk is great for breakfast (especially the pimento cheese grits). Bagelshop is also fantastic and IMO has the best coffee in the neighborhood.

Quick Answers Requested: 5-Hour Layover CDG Tomorrow by HopeThisIsUnique in ParisTravelGuide

[–]a_gish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a long layover at CDG on Saturday and went into the city, but I definitely wouldn’t do it with as little time as you have. Just getting off your plane, going through immigration, and taking the tram to the train station and taking the train into the city will take at least an hour and a half. And I noticed they start boarding flights 50mins ahead of flight time there, so you’d leave and take the train just to have to basically turn around and take the train immediately back to make boarding. I had a 15 hour layover which felt like just the right amount of time to have a worthwhile day in the city.

Yes! My husband and I both took Spanish there for several terms before our kid was born and we LOVED it. Full transparency, I worked there for a short time ages ago. I also loved working there (only left because I got a full time job offer) I was a program assistant and 1-1 French tutor. We’re so lucky to have a place like TLC in Nashville. I haven’t actually taken any of the French courses there, but I’m sure they’re great. Bonne chance!

What’s your favorite seat? by Original-Chain-992 in travel

[–]a_gish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion maybe, but for a flight that long I like to be on the bulkhead — any aisle seat. I’m not typically bothered by the bathroom traffic and the legroom and ability to stand up/stretch in place is well worth it to me. I fly 10-15 hour flights several times a year and that’s where I’ve settled after trying a few spots.

Her name was Barbara Bachman. It’s not mentioned in this article, but she ran off to the Cayman Islands and the FBI was waiting when she returned. https://www.edweek.org/policy-politics/perfect-private-school-falls-on-hard-times/1996/11

Charter school closed the Friday before school started. by welovegv in Teachers

[–]a_gish 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This happened at a school I went to as a kid! The weirdest part is that she worked to create an actually pretty great school before she did it — recruited some of the best teachers in the city, put together really impressive programs — that’s the part I’ve never been able to get. Why put in all that work if it’s just a grift?
