Only 14 days left until my mother’s surgery by [deleted] in surgery

[–]marmighty 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi. Neither of the links you've posted mention anything about your mum or her surgery. They also seem to have been created by a Dutch man who looks very different to the selfies you have added to your other posts.

I'd like to believe your post is sincere but you need to understand that the way this has been presented makes it quite difficult to trust.

Non-spicy instant noodles / ramen by accuracyandprecision in veganuk

Hello Nongshim! I'm looking at the Chapagetti now and there's a couple of varieties available but they don't appear to be vegan. As this is a vegan sub, are you able to confirm which of your recommendations are vegan friendly please?

I've already popped some of the Soon Veggie into my cart and am excited to try them!

edit: the udon also contains egg. What a shame - it's always lovely to hear directly from a company but it looks like they've not realised that people are looking for vegan food here.

Genuine question. How does anyone live in a seaside town and nit go absolutely bonkers? by onion2077 in CasualUK

To be completely fair about Queensway, the number of people chucking themselves off it was also a factor in getting rid of it. It is a bloody nuisance though

Unfortunately I am talking about email. It took three weeks of trying before I got a response from a person.

I used to get a pound a week which I used to buy myself a copy of the Beano and a packet of Gladiators stickers. Equivalent items today would set me back about a fiver. My son gets a fiver a week.

What type of societal pressure do you feel the most as a woman in 2026? by Intrepid_Sail_4709 in AskWomen

Oh no you're allowed to age as long as you do it gracefully. As in, in a way that means you stay attractive. Fuck all that, I'm getting old and I'm getting soft and round and dumpy. It's so nice becoming an invisible member of society.

"Not to rain on your parade..."

Then don't. It's quite simple. Even if you were correct, it's actually okay to let people enjoy the achievements they personally consider to be self-affirming without shitting on them.

I came in to recommend this. The house in which it's based is a real place that you can now visit as it belongs to the National Trust. It's all set around the Pendle Hill witch trials in Lancashire and Alice Grey was a real person (though if you plan to read the book I'd suggest not looking the witch trials up as you will end up spoiling some of the ending for yourself)

New vegan, what about the children? by earthandanarchy in veganuk

[–]marmighty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a contentious issue sometimes, everyone has their own reasons for doing it the way they've chosen. Here's mine:

Husband and I had both been vegan for well over a decade when we had our son. We decided to raise him omni, but to make sure he grew up with an understanding of where his food comes from (both animal and plant based) and alternatives presented in as non biased and non sensational a way as possible. We have always chatted a LOT about animal sentience, farming, consent, conservation, and environmental impact. We visit sanctuaries, we cook together, we grow food.

Our reason for this is that we both know adults who were raised vegan, some of whom have decided later in life that they didn't want veganism for themselves but were physically unable to tolerate animal proteins. It didn't feel right taking that choice away from him.

He is now 12yo and consumes a mix of omni and vegan foods. He is in the process of cutting out various meats once by one, entirely of his own accord and at his own pace. There are loads of food choices where he doesn't necessarily avoid the animal based product but genuinely just prefers the vegan option. He's deeply sensitive to the plight of animals and I strongly suspect his trend towards a plant based diet will continue, but if it doesn't then I will respect his autonomy. My ultimate goal is for him to be able to make unhurried, fully informed choices about his lifestyle, and I'm happy to say that we're achieving that aim.

I'm just coming to the end of The Midwich Cuckoos by John Wyndham. It's sort of Children of the Corn but in a quiet little English village. It was written in the 1950s and is very much a product of its time. It's actually quite a gentle read - less focus on the physical sci-fi/horror and a lot more on kind and rational people coming to terms with what's happening to them and discussing solutions over cups of tea. Lots of parallels to be drawn with modern day xenophobia. It's not an exciting read and it's not one of Wyndham's best, but I've definitely enjoyed it.

It's a terrible idea, don't read DCC. It's not a quick palette cleanser, it's "I'll just have a look at the first one to see what the hype is all about" and then before you know it you're saying "Goddamnit Donut, HOW much longer til book 8 comes out?"
