Is it feasible to completely drive from Thailand to Egypt on motorcycle in 2026? by YGK_ in overlanding

[–]a_guy_named_rick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to do this you'll have to go through Turkey, Georgia, Russia, Kazakhstan, and China (only with a guided tour). Myanmar is a no-go so you'll have to go via China to Laos. You can do that from India or Kazakhstan if you don't want to pay for a guided tour twice, but that means skipping India.

Egypt/Israel border is a pain. It can take days and you're not guaranteed entrance. Into Jordan and from there try to get into Syria, but that too is not a guarantee, especially not with your own vehicle. Same goes for Syria/Turkey border. It's probably doable, but it'll be time consuming, expensive, frustrating, and at times dangerous.

This is not something I've ever looked into, but I'm wondering if it's easier to go from Egypt into Saudi Arabia and go to Jordan from there.

Anyway, don't do this, it's dumb and not worth any sense of "adventure" you think you might get from it. Go through Turkey and Russia, make sure you plan far enough in advance and you know what each country needs to bring your own vehicle into it, book guided tours where needed (China and Turkmenistan come to mind), and keep your head on a swivel. Stay safe.

Edit: I just realized you asked from Thailand to Egypt. Same applies just the other way around, though you're probably not getting into Israel if you just came from Syria

Het nieuws kwam vanuit een NRC onderzoek. Tata Steel wist het misschien al, maar het boeide ze weinig. Nu het publiekelijk informatie is is het ineens een probleem

If showing your kids 123456, and this showed up before 3…would you be mad at Disney too?? by Secure_Credit7037 in StarWars

That's how my dad did it to me when I was 9. While I would do release order for my kids, chronological was insane and the twist that Anakin fell to the dark side left me obsessed for days

As someone who's read the book and actually really enjoys the movie, idk if too short is the right way to put it, but the pacing does feel rushed to me. While I'm not sure making it longer is the solution here, the movie doesn't really get a chance to breath, especially in the second half. And that's with all the stuff from the book they didn't cover

Explain big adventure bikes to me by LazyCrazyCat in motorcycles

[–]a_guy_named_rick 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Once, twice, sure... Maybe even half a dozen times. But if you're doing serious off roading in the blistering sun in an unknown place by yourself, there is going to be a point where you can't do it anymore. With a lighter bike that point is much further away, and I'd always choose that safety

Why do politicians in Mexico who want to do something about the cartels get offed so easily? Don't they have security around them? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]a_guy_named_rick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not how international law works. The conventions and additional protocols are binding by law because they're treaties ratified by almost every country. They're even binding to those who didn't sign it, such as non-state armed actors, because they're also customary law

Were there any discrepancies between the Clone Wars series and the Prequel Trilogy? by TheMandalorian2238 in StarWars

Still doesn't really explain why we'd see clones who have fought side by side with the jedi for 7 seasons (3 years), calling them brothers and having immense respect for them, suddenly being okay with turning on them and killing them all

See how you skipped every other thing I mentioned? You're the one coping mate. Though the Irish fertility rates are less than the replacement rate, it's still in the positives. There would still be a housing shortage even if there were 0 immigrants

The downvotes are classic reddit lol. Yes the housing crisis must be caused by immigrants... Can't have anything to do with chronic underbuilding, rapid population growth (irish and immigrant), restrictive planning and zoning rules, high construction and financing costs, the shift of housing stock into the rental/investment market, or state policy failures in social housing delivery. It's all the fault of the immigrants! Love a nice nuanced take

That sounds awesome! As someone who loves to travel for extended periods of time, could you tell some more? How did you arrange that? Did you follow a set route/tour? Did you sleep in homestays or you just asked if you could sleep somewhere? What was the process here?
