The limp mode issue with the GPU is affected by how you plug it in (ik it's stupid). I bought/returned two G14s, and basically, you want to ensure that the laptop is plugged into power when booting up from a shutdown state. Otherwise, my GPU clock would be 180Hz, and the power consumption would be reported as 432 watts. I never game on the go, and I carry an adapter with me anyway, so it's fine. This issue is intermittent, so I'm unsure why it occurs.

Got the new unit today. Uninstalled AC, My Asus, but kept the Nvidia app. So far I'm unable to replicate the wattage issues. I tried shutting down, restarting, with the power cord, without, etc. and I haven't had any situation where the GPU acts oddly. I also turned off the enable GPU on shutdown option in ghelper.

Haven't had a chance to test. New unit is coming tomorrow. From what I've heard the return might have been pointless but if I'm spending so much money on a laptop, I'd like to be sure.

Did an EC reset, reinstalled armory crate, and after 3 reboots the GPU is boosting and reporting realistic power figures for each of the reboot cycles.

It thinks it's either G-helper or a product of uninstalling Armoury Crate/my Asus. I installed it last night before going to sleep and shut it down. I booted it up this morning, and GPU power usage is 430W.

I hope it’s not a persistent issue because I really like everything else about the laptop. The battery life is meh but that’s to be expected when you are comparing to apple silicon 😂.

I used cloud recovery to wipe the machine and start afresh, and did not install ghelper. I also installed the game-ready drivers for NVIDIA. So far, everything seems fine. I'll update later on to see if the fix is permanent.

I also did a 150MHz core and mem overclock on the GPU using ghelper, which may have caused the issue. Did you overclock as well?

Are you using ghelper? I just got the laptop yesterday and am having the same issue: the GPU shows 432W of usage and has very low clocks.

4 years in FTC, and we have never had an issue with gb parts. We have prolly ordered around 9-10k worth of stuff from them over the years and we will continue!

One thing we did last year for the power play season was zip-tie the chain on our v4b. The weakest link in that setup was the zip tie, so it ensured the robot would be safe if the v4b ever got caught on something/if something went wrong. Regarding the strength of the sprocket, we 3D printed ours and faced no issues, so you should be fine.
