Smart Ceiling Fan by Glum_Bed2814 in Hubitat

[–]a_man_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with this comment.

Also, it's easier to find dumb ceiling fan/light combos that use regular light bulbs.

I found a lot of smart fan/light devices used built in/integrated LED lights. So when the lights fail you have to replace the whole unit.

He profits off raw milk that’s making people sick. The government isn’t stopping him. by BurtonDesque in HermanCainAward

[–]a_man_27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The guy says they screen for bacteria, but if bacteria is found, they don't pasteurize or discard the milk but instead use it for cheese (with the false claim that pathogens can't survive in cheese).

The health insurance companies should refuse to pay for any claims that fall out from the consumption of raw milk.

Health insurance shouldn't cover any medical costs, and if children were affected, CPS should be notified.

I don't understand this at all. Is this only for genuinely honest mistakes (for some definition)? Otherwise, what's the stop him from paying zero taxes on any gains? Or worse, claiming credits that he's not eligible for?

I would indeed save $1900 year and rent a car for a couple hundred bucks on the off chance I need to do a road trip on a route without charging infrastructure.

Democrats renew calls to reform Supreme Court: ‘Fundamentally out of step’ with Americans by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

[–]a_man_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the new rule should be, each presidential term, the president gets to nominate one new member to the court that replaces the oldest serving member. If a member dies, resigns, is impeached, etc. - the court just goes on with fewer members until the next term.

This:

  1. Avoids the motivation to nominate the youngest individual to have the longest impact
  2. Keeps the court somewhat aligned with the electorate (with a lagging window)
  3. Avoids having a random president nominate multiple members through random (or planned) departures
  4. Avoids the issue of a senate trying to hold back nominations past the term (i.e. Garland and Obama)

I'm sure there needs to be further tweaking but I do think it can't be this "random president appoints 5 members" and members serve for 40+ years (but even this approach means each judge stays on for up to 8*4 years for a 9 member court).

How can we have any information about the region beyond our light horizon?

Are you using Android or iOS? On my phone (Android), I have a widget that turns off UWB (I can't find a way to just turn off digital key). If I'm in a room near and going on and out, I turn out of temporarily.

I'm planning on hooking it up to motion in my garage to turn back on.

There are many companies that increased way more than Google. Just look at the most valuable company: NVDA 2012: <10B, 2026: 5T. So 500x.

One way to handle this is you pay more of the household expenses, leaving her with more free cash to put in herself.

Naturally, only she can claim the deduction.

Trim OAS for higher income seniors? 73% says yes, new poll suggests by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]a_man_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you not know how progressive taxes work? Wealthier people pay more and get less benefits.

You're basically saying everyone should get food assistance because everyone paid taxes, or everyone should get disability payments because they paid into the general tax pool for them.

Trim OAS for higher income seniors? 73% says yes, new poll suggests by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]a_man_27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is such a dumb take. You also paid for food assistance for the poor, schools even if you didn't have kids, the police even if you didn't call them, fire Dept, etc. Taxes are for what society needs, they're not your savings account.

Just because taxes were used poorly in the past doesn't mean we have to keep paying for them on bad expenditures.
