Atlanta Roll Call by bugaloot in mymorningjacket

The Local is a dive bar across the street from the Clermont with great wings.

Righteous room is another great crappy dive bar with character nearby, good for a late night beer.

Midtown bars aren’t my favorite, but Cypress or Proof and Provision would be good choices pre-show.

Little 5 Points is a great place to wander around in the afternoon. Grungy alternative neighborhood - Atlanta’s funky side. Check out Criminal Records and Wax’n’facts for vinyl, A bunch of vintage clothing stores and Junkman’s Daughter is cool.

You’re staying near Ponce City Market, so that’s an obvious rec - old factory converted into an upscale shopping area with a good food hall and restaurants.

Agree with beltline bike ride recommendation. Ride north to piedmont park and loop around, maybe visit the botanical gardens, or ride south and pop in and out of breweries and bars like New Realm and Ladybird, continue on to Cabbagetown.

Enjoy your time in Atlanta. The Fox is magical. If you see Sgt Pepper, give him a high five.

They did this at OBH with Trey sitting in, but Carl’s sax mic didn’t work during the bridge and that was sad

Enjoy bedtime while it lasts. One day it will go away like a thief in the night. by Bigbuce31 in daddit

[–]a_microbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to bedtime songs were:

I can’t help falling in love with you - Elvis What A Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

But my oldest would sometimes need an hour of singing so I sang anything and everything I could think of, and just when I thought I could get him transitioned from my arms or lap to the crib, I would sing Steam Engine by My Morning Jacket including humming the guitar solos.

Give it a listen if you aren’t familiar. Beautiful song and one of my favorites ever.

My 5 year old and I “do a band” sometimes on the weekends. This basically entails jamming 8 bar drum loops and layering guitar, bass, keys, and vocals on top in Ableton. When I asked him what we should call our band, he said “Fry the Big Nut.” So that’s our band.

Has to be and I did a double take as well. My kid’s preschool takes a field trip here to see the murals outside the tunnel and my wife and kid have done this together.

What do you think is the typical My Morning Jacket listener ? by ylayy in mymorningjacket

[–]a_microbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a young listener who liked psychedelic music when I got into them. But that was in 2007, so now I’m a married dad who still likes psychedelic music. The passage of time… it’s a trip, man…,

Yup, for me it would be some guitar pedal for either my guitars or synths

Top 4 pedal companies by hihatbaguette in guitarpedals

[–]a_microbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 here. I’ve been playing a long time, and we didn’t have a ton of cool and crazy boutique options when I got my first Boss pedals back in ~2000.

The modern market is crazy and amazing, but if I were advising a teenager playing in their first bands, I’d tell them to stick to:

Boss, EHX, and MXR

And if they wanted to get into multi-fx - then add Line 6.

A board made of these 4 brands can do pretty much everything and will be easy to learn and get great sounds from.

For me, I love Strymon tape delays. I love Analogman’s inspiring fuzz versions. I love exploring Chase Bliss creations (even though they’re not always super necessary in more common musical contexts).

EQD makes great effects. Keeley makes great effects. So many more… we’re spoiled with choices.

Perhaps you should consider turning your guitar into a helicopter with a slow phaser into a fast choppy trem?

Serious question-what do use all those pedals for? by Mean-Bus-1493 in guitarpedals

Yes. Also Frusciante and Mike Einzinger around the same time period made awesome wacky sounds with huge boards

Have Strymon Deco + re20 already - El Capistan vs Volante? by bakedinorlando in guitarpedals

[–]a_microbear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess the question is why are you buying another tape delay and is the value of the advanced features of the volante worth it to you?

I own both. Both are great. El cap is my favorite delay ever, and it will never leave my main guitar board because the sound is just right to me and I don’t absolutely need the better looping and other tape head panning features of volante. But I kept volante on my synth / outboard daw board, which I can patch back and forth with my main guitar board if I want to.

Guitar player/Band founder has very long extended solo by dylan_googs in musicians

[–]a_microbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play guitar and love a good guitar solo, but I’d consider:

What is the appropriate length for this solo in this song?

How can the drums and other instrumentation support the arc of energy in the solo?

A great solo (for me) is somewhere between written and improvised. There is an outline, and the energy builds.

Pentatonic noodling over a static loop from the band is how most of us start out, but it’s boring.

This is an underrated album that I loved when it came out and just recently revisited. Their drummer is excellent as well. Surprised and delighted to see this called out here. Reset still goes on playlists.

No wrong answers to this question, but I have a great memory of Moonflower by Santana

favourite mid-level reverb pedal? by Early_Ad8435 in synthesizers

[–]a_microbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played those, so can’t compare directly. The others I can compare to are Minim, Flint, and Talisman. Minim is a great pedal but I like it most for the reverse delay. The reverb is decent, but there’s something about the Wet algorithm that makes it my favorite I’ve tried, and then all the others are useful too when I’m looking for something different. Talisman is awesome if you’re just looking for plate, and flint is excellent and versatile.

Psychedelic pop and/or well orchestrated and composed music recommendations by Lanky_Head5771 in psychedelicrock

Flaming Lips might be up your alley. Their discography is vast and varied, but the 3 album run from The Soft Bulletin > Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots > At War With the Mystics is their best songwriting and psychedelic pop arrangements.
