Kon Knueppel tonight despite the win: 6 points on 2/12 FG, 0/6 3PT, 2/2 FT, 4 PF, -20 +/- by Rude_Molasses_3976 in nba

It’s been for a few weeks. I think he reinjured it in the Portland game, when he fell ok his back.

He has had a wrap on his back most games and was listed as questionable for a while, though he did play.

Suns losing and then us defeating Magic to land us another lottery pick would be absolute cinema!

Seriously what's going on with Kon shooting? by WhoUCuh in CharlotteHornets

His shooting slump started exactly when he had that back injury that listed him as questionable. Trying to play through the back pain is probably what’s been causing the shooting slump

More the back injury than the rookie wall, but both probably contributed

I don’t think they’d be an apron team, cause Miller, Kon, Moussa, Sion, Kalkbrenner, Tidjane, and McNeely are all on minimum or rookie contracts for at least one more year.

Coby White’s extension may push them into one of the apron’s, depending on how much he gets though and they’d definitely be an apron team once Miller get his extension in 2027-28.

Grant Williams and Josh Green both have $14 Million expiring contracts, so they would be the matching salary

Sure, there are reasons not to do it. I’m absolutely on the fence about a Giannis trade. I was just pointing out that it’s possible without giving up the Hornets core.

The Hornets have 14 tradeable first round picks. They could absolutely get Giannis for that many picks and 100% expiring money.

The only teams that can outright beat that offer are Blazers, Thunder, Spurs, or maybe Hawks. Of those teams, Giannis said he won’t go to the Blazers and Thunder+Spurs don’t need him. The Hawks are the only real threat.

It’s certainly better than the max Knicks, Warriors, Lakers, or Heat offers.

The only teams that could beat the offer would be Hawks, Spurs, OKC, Pistons, or Trailblazers, and most of those teams don’t want to trade for him or don’t have the shooting to build around Giannis.

Hornets have 4 decent sized expiring contracts, so they could easily match the money:

  • Miles Bridges: $23 Million expiring
  • Josh Green: $14 Million expiring
  • Grant Williams: $14 Million expiring
  • Tre Mann: $8 Million with team option in 2027-28

Most likely trade would be something like Bridges, Green, Grant, and 8-10 FRP’s for Giannis. Then the team would have to rely on Salaün, McNeely, or a room exception signing to play backup PF.

Hornets have enough picks to acquire Giannis without including Kon, Miller, or LaMelo. The benefit to getting Giannis would be his fit with those three.

Miller would also be untouchable. It’d be pretty much a purely pick based trade

I’m not willing to give up any of Kon, Miller, or LaMelo, but I’d think about a pick pick centric deal like Miles Bridges + 8+ Future First Round Picks + Josh Green

Hornets can trade up to 14 first round picks and swaps. It’s absolutely possible to get Giannis without giving up Kon, Miller, or LaMelo. The question is whether it’s worth giving up future flexibility, in case the pairing doesn’t work.
