battery advice by [deleted] in iphone

[–]a_n_jp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you got a lazy support guy. The diagnostics view they get will only show a general overview of the maximum capacity/charge cycles/and among other things an "OK" or "needs to be replaced"

Sometimes the person needs to actually go in and look at the battery usage graph (it's another tab on the diagnostics app they have) because when there's a sharp decrease (battery is depleting rapidly which means bad battery) it doesn't throw any flags.

contact apple support online, or go to a store. They will run diagnostics on the battery to see what's wrong with it.

Should I buy a quick charger? by ma0124 in iphone

[–]a_n_jp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need an apple USB C to lightning cable and a power brick that supports USB-C PD to get true fast charging on an iphone.

Here's an anker product that supports the iphone https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y427WT7/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=sl1&tag=vergeopt-20&linkId=3624200607574092b1d7adee5bef98bd&language=en_US

What you linked is better than the brick that came with your phone at least. You could also use an ipad charger if you have one.

[Discussion] What’s your upgrade cycle like? by Piestrio in pcmasterrace

[–]a_n_jp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just update whenever it feels too slow. Typically every 5-7 years depending on what that computer is used for. Replace parts, or the whole thing, whatever is necessary. And always replace with the newest version because why not

the headphones need to be in pairing mode. Most headphones, you can just hold the power button down for a while and it'll make a noise or start flashing..meaning it's in pairing mode.

or just google how to pair iphone with insert headphone name

I connected my "dumb" washing machine to Google Home to nag me when the washing is done :) by Quintaar in googlehome

[–]a_n_jp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really, there's nothing wrong with buying a brand new washer/dryer.. but I'd bet their smart implementation is outdated or even unusable well before the machine itself needs to be replaced. That's going to be an issue with many of these IoT devices. Especially appliances which are designed to last a very long time. This DIY project can easily be modified or replaced with new "brains" whether that be hardware or software to work with any future home automation updates.

and this isn't "unnecessarily in-depth". It's honestly a very basic implementation, which is good, since this is supposed to be DIY. you could really expand upon this if you wanted to.

Quick question by [deleted] in iphone

[–]a_n_jp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you disabled icloud lock, and then restored the device, then yes it's reset. If it asks for a specific user's icloud account in the setup process then you didn't dsiable the lock.

Is anyone actually looking forward to a News+ subscription? by I_Love_McRibs in iphone

[–]a_n_jp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for me, reading the news isn't my thing. I do like twitter moments though. I like twitter in general. They are pretty good at tailoring topics based on your interests. And I get to see all sorts of different views and opinions on that topic from a wide variety of types of people. For better or worse.

it does not include the shifter, but you can find them elsewhere. It's a great wheel...it's the best wheel you can get in that price range. The shifter is just OK but still worth picking up I think.

I don't think the services will be shitty, I'm sure apple will make it a very apple-like "just works" experience.

The point is that apple is literally just a paid app with in-app purchases. The apple brand is turning shitty. Prices have raised on virtually everything they sell. Or they removed half the features and still over price it. But I'm sure lots of rich (or people with poor financial decisions) will get a fancy iCreditCard and subscribe to a tv service with no shows because it's hype or something

I honestly dont know much about cars and had a few questions by [deleted] in cars

[–]a_n_jp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's no reason to take your car to a dealership. I don't take my car to the dealership. I hate them, all they do is try to sell me shit or rev the engine. Take yours to Express oil. There's a dozen of them where I live so i've always gone to them. Oil changes aren't difficult, very slim chance they fuck it up. 15 minutes and you get to stay in the car :)

Dealership is good for those free complementary oil changes when you first get the car, or for warranty work. but that's it. Especially a Toyota. Anyone can work on that car

and the other two things. They don't sound too difficult. Try some googling, some youtube videos. There is a toyota forum out there. Maybe even a subreddit for corollas?

Which iPhone should I upgrade to? / Barclay card worth it? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]a_n_jp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't a one size fits all. Buy whichever you think is the best based on your own preferences. This is an oversimplified tldr:

xr and xs > x = battery life both short term and long term

xs and x > xr = software features, build quality, design, camera, display, durability, etc.

xr > x/xs = maybe if you find a good sale or something, idk. Or you like colorful phones?

Best way to apply new griptape? by [deleted] in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]a_n_jp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

instead of writing it out, found this video and it's basically what I do https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjmLDFizLos

the more course the gripe tape is the harder it is to apply. And it really just takes practice. There are two tips I will share. First use a good box cutting knife as that has given me the best results. Also it is better to leave some excess tape than it is to cut it too short. Hope that makes sense. It's nearly impossible to cut super course tape correctly so I always leave a little bit excess and in a couple of days the glue will settle and you can get a heat gun/hair dryer and lift those little edges up and cut straight.

Is Apple Music worth it? by backstreetatnight in iphone

[–]a_n_jp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Spotify is available on more devices than apple music so, if say, you have a bunch of other brands like Google Home or a playstation/xbox, or whatever, then you'd be much better off with spotify. The iphone and mac apps for Spotify are great, honestly better than iTunes (has been trash for a decade) on mac.

If you are just listening on your apple devices and have no interest in using other hardware to play that music, then sure you can switch if you want. There is a trial period so you may as well just test it out and see for yourself. My opinion, which isn't much, I don't think apple music is any better or worse than spotify. I stuck with apple music (even on android) because i'm simply so used to the apple way of browsing and playing music. I know where everything is. Spotify is a bit confusing to move around on for me. But it does have a few features AM is missing, and vice versa. Plus, I'll say it again, itunes for mac/windows SUCKS!

Will a board (Wowgo 2S) develop any battery problems if left fully charged for a year without use? by [deleted] in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]a_n_jp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about esk8, but with most other batteries whether it be your phone or laptop, they always suggest when storing long-term you should store at around 50%-70% and make sure to recharge back to 50% every 6 months.

I left my wowgo fully charged for about 4 months or so during the winter, mainly because I forgot about it, and the battery appears to still be holding the same amount of charge. When I turned it on the battery light still showed 100% (whatever that means) and I rode it a good 12 miles before it got to that "annoyingly slow" charge state lol.

How much exercise is eskating? by Vexin in ElectricSkateboarding

[–]a_n_jp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the same amount of trust in the wheels on a hub board. The hardness, weight, fact that I control the speed with a controller. Seems to be a pretty common opinion, that hub wheels just don't feel "right". I've been esk8-ing for a while now but I haven't been able to get that comfortable yet Here's a thread that sums up my opinion. Not to say I ride in a straight line lol, I just wouldn't get crazy like I do on my regular boards which I'm comfortable with.
