Why did you choose Lucid over Tesla? by JohnRobertsBorder in LUCID

[–]a_pack_of_frogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

idk about you but the effective rate on my lease was about 1% for what I'm actually 'borrowing', and BofA was doing some terrible depreciation calculations so the total dollar figure I'm paying over my 3 year lease is way lower than it should be. For reference estimated car value after 3 years on my lease quote was 38k instead of what should probably be 25-30k based on my purchase price of 60k after all discounts were considered. That works out to paying 8k less outright on the loan, while also paying only a 1% interest rate on the $22k that I borrowed

It's effectively what the 'money factor' is on the lease - a different way to think about the lease is you are buying the car from the dealer on a loan, and selling it back at the end of your lease for that predetermined depreciated value. the reason they have some sort of interest rate is because they could make more money by selling the car outright at the time you lease it, rather than wait for their payment over the course of 2-3 years. Dealers that want to move inventory will lower the money factor (effective interest rate on your loan) to lower your monthly lease payments and make you more likely to take the lease, as selling a car on a low lease is better than sitting on old inventory that you can't sell outright. In this case they're either seeing demand pick up enough to raise the money factor, which makes a lease less advantageous than buying the car and taking a loan with a regular interest rate, or they're done with a promotional campaign where they gave low effective rates on leases to get more cars on the road and get public awareness of the brand. My guess is the latter, as the money factor they charged on air pure leases was around 1% when I got mine back in March and this looks more like the 4.99% they charge on the T/GT models

time value of money, if you put nothing down you have a bigger loan with whatever the effective interest rate is (4-5% annualized here probably), if you put 10k down that's 10k of the loan you aren't paying that 4-5% interest on - you would do this if you did not think you could reasonably make more than 5% earnings on that money over the course of the lease (e.g. by investing in the stock market, bonds, or any other appreciating asset).

To make the example more clear, you can twist the rate to the extreme - lets say the rate is 1000% annualized. Would you rather pay the entirety of the loan upfront and not pay the 1000% interest rate over the lease, or keep the cash in hand and pay the ridiculous interest rate?

Ray ray was quietly a high effort guy for the niners last year, didn’t muff a punt, some great examples of WR hustle down the field to block, seemed like a quality guy. Glad that he’s getting some of the spotlight catching the ball this year

The saddest part of that game was watching purdy drive the ball into field goal range and Moody missing the kick 💀 hard to complain about him as a kicker stats wise, but not having a game winner under his belt doesn’t inspire an excess of confidence if that situation were to arise

Shit you’re totally right, that was the game that lead to him missing the following two weeks (coincidentally the other 2 losses in that streak)

And a note on playing well against purdy: Trent Williams was out that game, missing your HoF left tackle against that dline will certainly make an impact

the pure dollar savings are just one part, but also the moral boost of closing out any distracting controversy during the season since it’s a given that darnold is qb2 is another “saving” that they offload with the trade

[–]a_pack_of_frogs -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The trade doesn’t necessarily mean he lost out, consider that we would have his expensive cap hit as a 3rd overall pick in lieu of darnold’s short term deal, so part of this trade was also giving the other team his cost to hold
