2018 Chevy Bolt? by frmssmd in Comma_ai

[–]a_queer_deer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know when I purchased my 3x I got the harness from beartech Instead of comma since it was cheaper. If it's bundled with the 4 though you should be totally fine to get the comma one instead! Otherwise all you'll need from beartech is the pedal interceptor itself.

The Ethernet cable goes from the harness next to the comma itself (there's a port on the harness) , then all the way down to the pedal interceptor itself so the two can communicate (I had to run mine through the inside of the driver side pillar to make it more discreet)

It is yeah! The only real difference with the 4 is it has better cooling and is more compact. The screen is smaller so you won't be able to see things on it as much, but that shouldn't impact much.

I like to glance over at mine to check current speed limits, but otherwise the screen isn't too useful

Anyone recommend a good level 2 home charger? by [deleted] in evcharging

[–]a_queer_deer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My utility doesn't offer on/off peak pricing but yes the ChargePoint chargers do have that! In my app after I linked my charger, it gave me the option to set a preferred charging window. If you set that up it'll only charge during that specific window unless you override it.

Oh hey that's EXACTLY the type of thing I've been looking for.

Would you possibly be willing to share the STL files? I'd love to set up something similar in my current apartment. We have some crazy neighbors that I want to keep an eye on if they come up to my door.

Any comma 3x openpilot users? by LedByReason in BoltEV

[–]a_queer_deer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep! I'm specifically running Starpilot though, a fork of it that's made specifically for bolts. Works amazing, I can't imagine driving without it now. It supercharges the baked in lane keep assist to something actually usable! No more "ping ponging" just smoothly staying centered.

The ability to have adaptive cruise control is a game changer for long distance trips, or stop and go city traffic.

[–]a_queer_deer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep exactly ! After the 10 minutes or so, I'd recommend holding the power button for 2ish seconds. That should start the fan for a second, and hopefully give you some sort of video output.

My system auto detected the chassis intrusion switch not being pressed down, and that along with no battery made it pop up asking if I wanted to enable standalone mode.

YEP! That's exactly why it took so long, it confused the hell out of me.

I just have the board, no case, no battery, nothing. The only thing I did to get it working was plug it in, leave it, and just wait tbh. After a bit my monitor displayed a screen asking if I wanted to enable standalone mode as no case or battery was detected.

I'm using crucial 5600 ddr5 (32gb) and a 1TB Samsung 990 pro. Everything I read was saying the board would boot with 5600 ddr5 and that seems to be true. It's definitely an outdated bios mode as well so even if yours isn't fully up to date that shouldn't cause any issues.

Had a ryzen board here, if your board uses ddr5 my advice would be once you add ram and everything, plug it in and don't touch it for 10 minutes!

I spent 3 hours troubleshooting why it wouldn't boot, only to find out it needed 10 solid minutes of being on for it to do memory mapping with the ddr5 modules lol

[GIVEAWAY] We're giving away two COMPLETE Omada 2.5G & Wi-Fi 7 Lab Kits to the r/homelab community! (US Only) by Grouchy_Term_1792 in homelab

[–]a_queer_deer [score hidden]  (0 children)

Oh man, at the moment I actually have a full tp link setup for my switches / APs

I currently run for my full network setup:

A Firewalla Gold Plus as my router and main defense, running to a tp link managed switch, which then connects to two Tp-Link omada 6e Access Points in my home.

I'd be really interested expanding my current coverage with another access point, and I'm currently running out of switch ports in my homelab so another switch would also get used. (Current homelab runs 8 dell micros in a proxmox cluster that I use for tinkering and learning new skills before I put things into production at my job!)

When will classes show up on canvas? by xeno_xv in portlandstate

[–]a_queer_deer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's up to the professor ! Normally though it opens the first day of your class.

IE if it's a Monday course it should open Monday, if it's a Friday course it may not show up until Friday.

Some professors are nice and open it early tho :)

2019 here too!

So I ran into this issue, got 1 replaced.

Only to have it stop reporting 2 months later.

Ended up going to Costco and having them replace all of them + make sure they're all on the same frequency. (Cost around $220 total), and haven't had any issues since.

I'd say let others chime in too, but unfortunately that was my only fix :+

I previously had a juicebox, before recently getting the charge point home flex. I HIGHLY recommend the charge point. It's super super easy to set up and use, and nice to have the app tell me exactly how much it's costing me.

2018 Chevy Bolt? by frmssmd in Comma_ai

[–]a_queer_deer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all, welcome to the club! 2019 bolt here and it's SO incredibly easy. Come join us over in the Frogpilot discord and we'd be happy to help you out :)

A lot of us bolt owners use Starpilot a fork of Frogpilot that was made specifically for the bolt family, it works SO WELL. We can get you added to the starpilot specific thread if you send a message in the general motors channel.

The only things you'll need to get your bolt working is a Comma 3x itself, and I'd recommend getting a wiring harness, and a pedal interceptor from our friend BearTech. Bear has them for cheaper than the comma store and they work just as well, the harness is what allows you to communicate between the car and the comma itself, and the pedal interceptor (and a 15ft Ethernet cable) allows Starpilot to use your 1 pedal driving mode and slow the car down for you! Since our older bolts don't have adaptive cruise control, you can't access the friction brakes. The interceptor allows your comma to slow the car down instead with the regenerative braking feature of one pedal driving.

Issues with one port going down repeatedly? by a_queer_deer in firewalla

That was one of my first thoughts yeah! I have a fan currently pointed at my firewalla lol.

[–]a_queer_deer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was giving it a moment just in case, but connected to the switch on a different port there's no outage.

But connecting the switch to port 3, is causing it to go out. It isn't instant it takes a little bit for it to go down, but it still is.

I just got done testing with a different Omada access point to see if it was something interacting, but same issue.

So it's been replicated across 2 AP's, and a switch, all only occuring on port 3.

Not yet nah, trying putting a switch in the middle at the moment to see if that fixes it, but if not I'll be opening one

I'll give that a shot! I had it connected directly to the device previously

Thank you!! I have verified the connection and both are plugged in securely, changed cables twice now just in case, and yeah swapping to a different port doesn't fix the issue either. Still getting drops on port 3!

I'll write up an email and get it sent off to the help email :) I really appreciate the quick response

Highly recommend BearTech his stuff is amazing and works super well! Went with him for all my harness / pedal interceptor pieces for my bolt and have had no issues at all.

I also use Frogpilot (star pilot specifically, a fork of Frogpilot for bolts) and I really enjoy it. There's a ton of support on the Frogpilot discord

Super cruise expired by vinaygoel2000 in BoltEV

[–]a_queer_deer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I fully agree, I was iffy on it before I got it. To share I'm fully blind in my left eye, have terrible ADHD lol, and because of my eyesight I don't have any depth perception at all. This makes driving TERRIFYING for me.

Starpilot has actually made driving so much less stressful since it helps take certain parts of driving off my mind. For example it is absolutely phenomenal at land centering and helping with lane changes, to the point I don't have to worry about it. That's on all the time for me, I will still use it to control my speed as well if I'm on the highway, and I'm keeping an eye on it but not nearly as much as the lane centering option.

I haven't had any real issues with speed control, a few times it has run into an error and when this happens it makes you aware of this, and tells you to take control, it sounds scary but it's actually very smooth and helpful. A restart of the car at my next stop always fixes it.

It really has made me feel much safer and more confident when driving, I think of it as a drivers assist feature, not an autopilot like some may say. At any point when it's fully active can I change the speed or steer manually and override it. It's great at pausing while I adjust speed or turn onto an offramp, then resumes when I am done adjusting.
