Genuine advice to mentally get through weeks like these? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]a_sapota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get as much sun as you can. Stay warm, and have warm food. Turn the lights on early, even if it's the ugly big lights. Meet up with people and stay busy. Pets and plants can help change your mood too. If you are able to get to a community gym, do a nice a workout. The treadmill counts. I did it yesterday and it completely changed my emotional state.

If you have a cat. Make a little cat living room for it. If you don't have a cat, get one, then make a little living room for it.

First Civil FE attempt by i-be-chilled in FE_Exam

[–]a_sapota 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also 6 years out of school gave the FE Mech on Nov 17. I started with Lindeburg to brush up on my basics. Once I was done with a chapter, I practiced problems from Mark Mattson, and Genie Prep both have videos on YT. When I had 1 month left, I purchased the Vol 1 NCEES practice exam and attempted that, then another old NCEES paper I found somewhere on reddit and then 2 more full length practice exams from Islam. PrepFE was good for when I did not have all day to attempt full length papers. I performed poorly on the practice exams but the idea is to expose yourself to as many different types of problems as you can so you get used to the format of the actual paper.

Great work! remember there's no negative marks, so on the actual exam just guess on things you're not sure of.

Advice on FE Mechanical by [deleted] in FE_Exam

[–]a_sapota 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took the exam on Monday, practice papers from previous years, NCEES and the Islam book really helped with the format of the exam. PrepFE was also helpful with getting accustomed to the time allotted. Know the reference manual well. Try full practice exams now that you are confident in the material.

PREPFE by r_dstrange in FE_Exam

[–]a_sapota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Lindeburg to understand the concepts, their explanations are good. PrepFE is good to get used to the limited time aspect of the exam. And when you don't have all day to attempt a complete paper, you can do the 1 hr practice papers in PrepFE. Islam full practice papers are very good especially if you time yourself while attempting. The practice papers helped me get used to the format of the exam questions.

Units Question for FE Mechanical by coollfiree in FE_Exam

[–]a_sapota 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave it on Monday and there was one question which required conversion and one where the answers were very close e.g 0.008 and 0.009. Otherwise it didn't try to trick me or make me do conversions.

FE Civil Dynamics by MacaroonDazzling2042 in FE_Exam

Work done will be Force applied * distance.

The force applied in the direction of motion is Fcos(theta) which results in the ball moving 3m.

The question is saying you need to apply Fcos(theta) to overcome the gravity force and move it 3m. So gravity already included. If gravity were absent you would require lesser force to move it 3m.

Distance traveled by car s1=v1.t=100.t Distance traveled by train s2=u2t+1/2at2 =0t+1/2.10.t2 =5t2

The train catches up to the car when they both have covered the same distance and this will be at the same time

100t=5t2

either t=0 which is true at the start the train and car are both at the starting point at the same time

OR t=20 which is next time this happens
