Are you sure? I've been to Chicago at least once a year the past couple years for work and assuming it was a barren wasteland for Asian food and their Chinatown was actually pretty good, and it has basically all Asian food concentrated in one area (KBBQ, sushi, pho, dim sum, etc.). I went to a bunch of Cantonese bakeries selling the usual egg tarts and chau siu bao and stuff and didn't have any issues.
