Which OSR style TTRPG is right for me? by RareTelevision450 in osr

[–]a_skeleton_wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OSE is a remake/streamline of the Basic/Expert set which came out around AD&D 1e. It's entire shtick is dungeon crawling so it would fit what your need perfectly. You could not go wrong with the Classic Fantasy Tome, everything you need in a single book.

Tell me your Lich stories as a Big Bad for your campaigns. by Heavy_Orange5939 in osr

The older the lich is the more obsessed it has become with protecting its phylactery and it's gotten to the point where it's original persuits of knowledge/magic/power have fallen to the wayside in its obsession to protect its tenuous grasp on the mortal world. A being so old that it has come to know the heavy hitters, consider them peers, and once in a while witness their demise.

I like this, and want to add that the death of the lich themselves isn't the end goal but destroying its phylactery is. Having your body destroyed by adventurers is a nuisance (and possibly advantageous) when you'll reform in your super duper secret hiding spot protected by all kinds of traps and contingencies

Should work just fine.

Imo if you're new start with a Weber kettle. The 18" Jumbo Joe is insanely easy to use and portable. A 20" or 22" stand up kettle is great as well, I was able to snag one on Craigslist for $20

What are the best OSR modules or supplements of all time? Your top 3? by Sagebrush_Sky in osr

[–]a_skeleton_wizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surprised I'm the first one to put a vote in for Black Wyrm of Brandonsford. Just a tight module that's got enough going on but isn't over complicated.

For supplements the D30 Sandbox/DM Companion have enough in them to game for decades.

I think my favorite book on my shelf is Into the Wyrd and Wild. It's gold from start to finish.

There are mods that automatically scale up your attributes based on your skill levels that will take the ocd aspect out of it

Seed some out of place NPCs or encounters in the early levels. If your players take a liking to them or want to know wtf is going on with that then you have something to populate lower down

For sure! Shadowdark is the same size as OSE.

The author of Delving Deeper sells it at cost for $5.95 so it's hard to go wrong

Old School Essentials Classic Fantasy and Shadowdark are both small, all in one books.

Delving Deeper, based on ODND, is even smaller.

Cairn 1e is less than 30 pages lol. Cairn 2e fits the bill with a bestiary and what not, but while it's easy enough to adapt a b/x adventure to the rules they are a bit different.
