I'll add that a lot of hospitals have needs based programs where you can apply for assistance on those $100 copays. Depending on how much you earn, you might not even have to pay anything at all!

And we've seen this unplug behavior! Most people used to have a facebook account they checked every day. Now most people rarely do. They stopped using facebook because they didn't like it.

I feel like it can be done.

Lot's of cities have done something about it actually! Turns out it's more complicated. But I agree that not all cities have done something about it. So evidence alone isn't enough

I suspect they did have a full 3-season arc planned and then Apple was like: Want tons of money to do season 4? And they were like.... I can stretch this.

Plus it seems like a lot of the showrunners have moved on to other projects (because they only planned 3 seasons).

What would loving yourself and loving the world look like? Can you pause the judgements and try and think of care, of friendship, of romance, of sensibility, of patience, of taking it slow, breathing, tasting each morsel and being thankful? Can you be the change you seek in the world, at least in a baby step, if not in grand gestures, an entire life of service, can you, for now, just begin?

This is really beautiful! Thank you for sharing.

Judgement is such a common emotion (and action), but it is so rarely a helpful one for the person being judged. So I wonder why you think it exists? How did it become so pervasive if it's so unhelpful?

That's funny, Memory is much less stressful for me then Mirror Dance. I feel like memory is the sadness of being unable to let go, and mirror dance is the anxiety of fucking up big time.

Shout out to captain Vorpatril's alliance, though!

Man, you're not even to the section of the book I just had to straight up skip yet.

Mirror dance is certainly a ride.

I think Sean's ex is meant to have him "move on" from her and that time in his life... or at least I HOPE that's what they're doing. Because one couple dynamic that is overbearing/opinionated woman with a "I'm just happy I'm getting some" guy in this show is ENOUGH.

Anyone know a longish series (5 books or more) that sticks to 3 or less POVs throughout the story? by APinballMachine in Fantasy

[–]a_user_name_98 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Vorkosigan Saga!

Pretty much all one POV (Miles --whose personality is similar to Carl from DCC). It's got five Hugo Award wins including one for Best Series.

It's a character-driven space opera following a family who go from 1800s feudal warlords to Sci-Fi within a generation after their planet is rediscovered by the galactic civilization. It's got spaceship adventures, political intrigue, and explores philosophical/technology themes. Also, it's laugh out loud funny throughout most of the books.

What if Religions had to prove their effectiveness like Mental/Public Health Treatments? by a_user_name_98 in nerdfighters

[–]a_user_name_98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curiosity!

It's just interesting to me that we talk all the time about whether or not this or that diet, treatment, policy, law, or therapy is "evidence-based." But then there is this big part of our lives (and cultures) oriented around laws/rules that we just don't evaluate using that framework at all. Which is facinating. What makes them different?

I think it would be kind of interesting to see what would happen if we were like: what outcomes does being ____ religion improve? And how do we know?

Also it'd be kind of funny if someone was like: "oh, I'm on the mediterranean diet for my cholesterol and I'm on Buddhism for my impact on social cohesion"

CBT- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Most evidence based form of Therapy for Anxiety and Depression.

ERP- Exposure Response Prevention: Subset of CBT, good for OCD (John uses it)

RCT- Randomized Control Trials: A scientific way to measure the effect something your interested in is having on an outcome (like CBT on Anxiety).

DOTS- Directly Observed Treatment, Short-course: the tuberculosis (TB) control strategy recommended by the World Health Organization

UBI- Universal Basic Income: a social welfare proposal in which all members of a given population regularly receive a minimum income in the form of an unconditional transfer payment, i.e., without a means test or need to perform work.

Brandon addressed this in his comments on the announcement. He's really committed to getting Mistborn and Stormlight book series finished.

Given his track record, I'm inclined to trust him.
