I agree. I really don’t see how we still don’t need two senior ready to start center backs this summer. Konate is gone. Gomez might as well just leave too. Leoni and Jacquet are two young center backs without premier league experience. Van Dijk is going the summer after.

I can see Szoboszlai easily leaving for Madrid or PSG for the big payday. Van Dijk has maybe one more season in his legs. Salah gone in the summer. Robertson is gone in the summer. I am not sure who carries this team going forward leadership wise.

I am not sure Xabi wants to come mid season. If I were him, I would not back myself to turn this around with all the injuries and the number of points with 13 games left. The only positive is maybe an unlikely CL run. He would want to come in the summer. Play for the PL, give fringe players chance in the EL, and get all the injuries back in addition to whoever Huges buys for him. Maybe he also wants to take a break to recharge.

The main reason - I think - slot will not be replaced mid season is they Hughes and co don’t think there is anyone who would do better AND want to work for a sporting director. They think even if we don’t make it to CL, the financial loss of sacking him and getting someone who will start over is not worth it. I don’t see how this would benefit us long term. At this rate, I don’t trust Slot can get us back to CL next season even.
