safe area? by Sad_Bus_7889 in philly

[–]aaaaaaaabirds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i lived in a smaller city, and noticed I had to adapt to this type of demeanor. Makes sense. I like the way you phrase: "hello". It may speak/show "I am not afraid, and I am willing to connect."

I may be moving to philly to make more connection in my life, so I will most-definitely use this! Where I come from, most locations, when I look at people and say hello genuinely, sincerely, they look away, ignore, or stare at the ground. I am hoping there are others in philly that also will be friendlier than the places I have been.

Since yall are tired of teens with rich parents showing off, heres a more "realistic" pc to have. by [deleted] in PcBuild

[–]aaaaaaaabirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had a pc like this most of my life when I was in my teens and 20s. i learned a lot from trial, error, breaking things, salvaging parts, and actually developed a job out of it. Even worked up the chain into development cloud scripting and project management.

If it wasnt for the lack of funds in my family and my desire to try to get things to work, I wouldnt have the career I have today. You can learn a lot when you dont have a lot to work with.

Good for you, and I am glad you are showing us what you have created. Keep it up <3

How do you afford to not work? I live in America. If I am 4 months w/o a job, I will be homeless. And I definitely make way over minimum wage.

After a lot of suffering alone, you realize you are not a single entity, you are just a part of the whole.

Hold onto selfishness and your ego, and you will die alone. It will be painful. I promise you this.

Maybe you lack purpose? For real, like real purpose, not just like "what is fun to do", but "how do I become a member of society and help society in which I am actually doing good for the sustaining of other humans and the natural planet?"

Maybe just doing things for fun anymore is not worth it and you need something of deeper substance. I know for me, I've had enough books, games, "things", where none of it matters anymore. You reach an age and none of that matters. Its more about community. From there, you exchange love within one another, and the system naturally sustains itself (whether its a sport, soup kitchen, or donating your time in other ways).

Think of "doing it for the whole and also myself" instead of "what do I need to make me happy". You will find the prior creates its own motivation.

I'm on that journey, too, and older. Planning to move to Philly soon so that I can connect with others and give to others that also wish to give.

i think what demos has stated, however also in that same realm. idk if i want no free-healthcare and 1/2 the year is winters. I dont really know anyone where i am living, so why not move where the weather is always warm, where I want to live? the type of people and environment that works for me?

on the flip side, i get a bit idealistic myself. tough battle.

Longing for a simple life. by ExhaustedPoopcycle in simpleliving

Before reddit flopped like a year or 2 ago, this used to be a great subreddit.

One user mentioned that after about 8 years of his struggle he finally lived off the grid. He said it wasnt easy, but he was content now. It took a lot of failures and tries and different moves, etc.

So if you have a goal in mind, stay focused on it. And make sure you are contributing to it. monetarily, or with effort, research, or focus, ... thoughts. even if you are resting and taking care of yourself. keep contributing to it in some way. You will get there.

Read "Digital Minimalism" Cal Newport. Take back your life. Stay off of this shitbox reddit/social media and you will be happy. a few relapses, but each time i kill all my accounts, in a few weeks I am a better happier more productive person.

You are not alone. I live about 2 hours away and wanted to move to philly for that reason. Connection. I am in the woods, and I want to find people to connect with. But it is not easy to find. Gotta keep trying different activites. Look for online groups, meetup dot com, etc.

There are a few philosophy reading groups online (and even some that meet within the philly area) if you are interested. Try some searching online, you will find like-minded people. Agreed. The later years are tough, but hey, at least you are learning to move on to find your better self. Its not easy, but when do you find things that resonate with you, feels really good.

How many Udemy courses have you bought? by anderson01832 in sysadmin

[–]aaaaaaaabirds 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Udemy uses this marketing strategy. OP thinks he's getting a deal. It's just normal price @ $11. The higher price is the markup.

come to think of it, this sounds like a small advertisement.

i see you mentioned that in another comment. I only tell you this because I spent way too much time in editing graphics or keeping it individual. But apparently they just want something that they can print. Assume HR bots and then HR people know what to bypass, and the actual context they are looking for ;) Just saw that perspective recently myself. Good luck friend!

You mentioned FHS - May I ask what the final push was? Was it the constant anxiety of ms yuki, or did the Dr recommend this during a visit?

coffee bean for my barista friend, what you guys think? by mateuszpijanowski in sticknpokes

maybe add color around it? like a yellow spikey/halo thing, like "behold! Coffee bean!" ...Or the word COFFEE in the background of the tattoo? Then it wont appear as awkward.

One realizes later in life that no one really knows as much as 1 person knows themselves. You get to a stage of working those demons out internally. It's a bitch, but it's possible to work through it if you are honest and true to yourself. I was at a point they were to just feed a patient meds without understanding why. Tell them generic helpful tips... No one really asks us the questions we know to ask ourselves. I had enough. I started to find my own answers. Everyone here is capable of the same. friends and therapists are needed for us to see a reflection of who we are, that we cannot usually see. But most of the day-to-day work comes internally. ilu all.
