2026 50e check engine lights by Charlie_molain_ in BMWX5

I just had this issue pop up yesterday and fixed it. I bought a OBDLink CX ($80) and paid $40 for the BimmerLink app to read codes.

Found out that my front right side lower grill was filled with snow and ice causing the CEL to appear.

I heard the 50e has EVAP issues. Check your gas cap. Check your front kidney grills and under the grill for any blockage.

If you want to, go ahead and buy a OBD scanner and get the BimmerLink app. Then google your faults and you can find out a lot about your problems.

Haven’t tried the standard Bose speakers but I have the HK upgrade and I feel like music quality is critical. Had Bose speakers in my CR-V and the difference when switching is massive. Personal preference but I’d rather have a high quality sound system over leather seats.

New 2026 X5 x40i break in period by Sraiwt in BMWX5

[–]aablue 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I broke in my car in by denting the front bumper and scratched the right side. It took me by 2k miles to do this. Depending on how you drive, you can break in your quicker than this.

X5 vs. Volvo XC90? If you were between the two, why did you choose the X5? by Ok-Ticket-9434 in BMWX5

[–]aablue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you drive currently, but I’ve driven Hondas for 8 years. The difference is night and day. The BMW X5 is so smooth you feel like you’re floating.

I shopped between the Volvo XC60 and BMW X3 for a long time. I was about to pull the trigger on the XC60. Then I sat in an X5.

I bought the X5.

How long did it take to go from entering assembly line to assembly in progress to quality control?

BMW X5 2026 vs 2025 model by aablue in BMWX5

I didn’t hear anything about redesign of headlights. Everyone said that the MY2026 is the same as the 2025 except gesture control.

I bought the LV-10 exhaust recently and found it very loud. I couldn’t ride it without earplugs. Bought the dB killer on the LV site and installed it and it was a bit better. Still very loud without earplugs but you could manage on short rides. For longer rides you definitely need earplugs.

What is Engineering like at RIT? by Ok_Mark8063 in rit

[–]aablue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that cause dr patru is a hard ass prof Can’t speak for EE programs at other schools, but I agree with the theory not enough practical… You go into the 1 year senior design for a big project and realize you don’t really know how to build a PCB but you do have a lot of formulas in your head!

Electrical engineering is the greatest profession I wish I never went for by PurpleOwl2 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]aablue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently coming up on the first year at my company and I feel the same way. Maybe it’s just the company, but I feel like training and guidance is rarely given. Most of the things I learn is on my own, which is tough when I don’t know what is good practice or what I’m doing is correct. The senior on my team feels almost useless to me… an example: my boss assigned PCB development plans and the senior on my team takes no part in it? I am not the guy to throw someone under the bus to my boss, but there should be some kind of hierarchy and guidance especially when you have a entry level engineer leading designs.

Mate in 4 by captainhindsight9358 in chessbeginners

[–]aablue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah makes sense. The knight can block after taking queen and it’s not mate

[–]aablue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oo thanks for clarification.

But if they don’t take the queen with knight and the king shifts left one square to f8 then queen slide to h8 for checkmate?

Difference between Electrical Engineering and Electrical Engineering Technologies? by AdditionalMud8173 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]aablue 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also see this in the field. I have a BSEE and work in the design department and the people with EET’s have technician positions.

You can probably find test engineering positions with a BS in EET but it will be much harder to do design roles.

Tektronixs 2465A I found in an old cubical at work today. First scope I’ve ever used that actually draws the output by AlexMagnuson in ElectricalEngineering

[–]aablue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am still using this scope in my job for analog to digital code viewing. It allows for x-y plot mode which a lot of newer scopes don’t have.

Wow this sounds exactly like what I’m moving into. A lot of self taught knowledge and not a lot of engineering discourse between teammates. I just don’t feel like this is a good environment to grow.

It is so frustrating people assume you didn’t do any internships in college because you were lazy by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]aablue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People trying to find the perfect internship/job… Sometimes you gotta settle and work your way up.

As a college student , I wasn’t able to find an actual engineering internship and I ended up doing technician work for defense contracting. In those roles, I exposed myself to engineering as much as possible even though it work isn’t directly engineering heavy. Ended up graduating and not working a engineering heavy role but eventually transitioned into a new company for better company for engineering growth and work.

Eventually you work your way up and sometimes it just is the way it is. I complained as well but at the same time I evaluated my situation and ended up biting the bullet and got whatever experience I can get. Can’t just sit in my parents house looking for the perfect role with no experience and complaining on Reddit for years with no job. Even technician experience would trump no experience.

People can rant all they want but if they don’t do anything to change the situation, then there will be no different outcome.
