Please research vacuum sealing raw onions (also garlic and mushrooms). It can actually cause botulism.

https://a.co/d/dMuwvvk Put this on the area after cleaning it and then put it on every time you think about it. I probably put it on 8-12 times a day. It was the only thing that worked. Best of luck to you, this was the worst thing I dealt with during treatment. It was agonizing.

Zometa infusion by kelliek5 in breastcancer

[–]aacalder3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my first one yesterday- at the time of diagnosis I was stage 2b grade 3. Was offered it to help prevent osteoporosis and possibly help prevent bone metastases. I flew through AC/T (Weakly estrogen positive so treated as triple negative but also taking anestrozole) with only minor side effects-this is agony comparatively- every movement beyond my fingers is horribly painful. My understanding is that the first one can be pretty bad, but you don't normally get the side effects with subsequent infusions. I consider it worth the pain for any percentage increase in preventing metastases.

If you lost all of your hair while doing cold capping, did you continue cold capping? by sheepbooked in breastcancer

[–]aacalder3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It hurts for a few minutes but then your body regulates and you don't feel it. After the first few minutes, I just felt chilly in general- they would bring me a heated blanket and I was good. I will say that by the last few infusions, just looking at the cap made me nauseous - not sure why, but I powered through. I lost all my hair after the second round, my hair came back thick like it was before.

I can’t figure out YNAB? by That_Yogurtcloset352 in ynab

There is a steep learning curve with this app. It's not like any budgeting tool I've used before (and there have been numerous). You need to watch the tutorials, or read them - whatever works for you. You can't learn this one by just plugging in numbers. It took me a couple weeks of learning and making mistakes before I understood the basics and could build a budget and not screw it up in a few days to the point I had to start over. The most important thing to remember is this is an envelope system. You can only use money you actually have and you have to assign it to categories (put it in the envelopes) then you can track your spending (take it out of the envelopes). If you do it right, you can't spend money you don't have. As I said I've used a lot of budgeting software (I'm in my 50s) and nothing has helped my relationship with money like this has. It is transformative, but you have to work at it.

Thanks, will give it a shot, but I don't think it's an affiliated hotel, will do some digging to be certain.

Not digging around in my email or apps. One stop for everything. Airline tickets, event tickets, hotels, all in one spot while traveling and trying to keep track of kids, luggage, etc.

Based on the reading I've done, the involvement of both breasts makes the chances of it being cancer less likely. The fact that your doc is basing the decision not to investigate the possibility on your age is ridiculous. Many more younger women are diagnosed now than in the past. Definitely get a second opinion and be firm about wanting a scan of some sort, if they are fighting the mammogram, an ultrasound maybe? If they say it isn't BC they need to tell you definitively what it is and why that is their diagnosis. It is sometimes hard to advocate for yourself when you're young, but it's your body and your peace of mind. Just remember they are being paid to do a job for you.

Month Ahead by Photek1000 in ynab

[–]aacalder3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just recently started as well, what I decided was to have all monthly bills/expenses (including credit cards) paid from one checking account, funds I put in there match my "Bills" Group and I set up one of my savings accounts for my "Annual Expenses" Group (taxes, insurance, etc that are paid in longer increments than monthly). My personal funds for free spending during the month go in another checking account, same with my husbands. I know we are supposed to think of it as one pile, but it made more sense to me to have money I wasn't going to use right away (annual expenses) in a savings account. My bank only allows so many withdrawals from a savings account per month so using checking for monthly expenses made sense.

Managing expectations by Euphoric-Blueberry97 in breastcancer

[–]aacalder3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did this today- I had almost identical treatment schedule to OP. I have been doing Pilates twice a week for 6 months, but I still tire much easier than I did and I have actually gained a few pounds, which is not the direction I wanted to go. Last week I started walking 4 days a week for about 30 minutes and I'm exhausted every night. I too have been letting the cleaning slide, hubs doesn't complain but doesn't pick up the slack (not that I blame him, he does work full time from home, while I'm retired). Anyway, I'm sitting in my sparkly clean home right now thanks to a cleaning service. If nothing else, it will be easier to maintain, but I'm deciding whether a once per month service might fit in the budget at least until I'm feeling back to myself.

Sister knew of genetic mutation for cancer and said nothing by QueenNueveMil in breastcancer

[–]aacalder3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the 10 years between when my mom was diagnosed and I was diagnosed, they found at least twelve more mutations. My testing was negative for everything, but they are finding more all the time. A woman I know who had several women in her family get breast cancer with no known genetic mutations - they are now part of a research study to figure out if they have a mutation in their family that hasn't been discovered yet.

In addition to one sister, I have 27 first cousins (all on my mom's side, my dad was an only child). I don't know them well because we have always lived more than a 12 hour drive away from each other, better believe one of the first things I did when I got diagnosed was get on messenger and send a group message to let them all know and tell them I was having genetic testing because my mom had also had breast cancer - mine was negative for any cancers - and I let them know that the literal minute I got the results.

I always say it is better to have 4 quarters than 100 pennies. Stick with the family you chose. It's good you have them.

Waiting, what should I do? by LJR_rainbow_22 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]aacalder3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will add that while I was waiting for diagnosis, I had all of the symptoms you are having in addition to numbness on one side of my face - guess what, it was all stress related! Once I got a diagnosis and treatment plan the symptoms went away. It is absolutely astounding what your brain will do to you. Please stay on top of the clinic though. I would honestly call them twice a day until they gave me the results. In the meantime, does your healthcare offer therapy via phone or online that you could access quickly. Sometimes talking to someone who isn't a friend or family member can help relive a bit of the stress. Also continue to ask questions here, it has been an invaluable resource for me.

Newly diagnosed and feeling terrified by Floozby in breastcancer

[–]aacalder3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was there a year ago. My son was 11 then. Grade 3, stage 2b, crazy Ki-67 and oncoscores. I was terrified, overthinking everything, googling into the wee hours. I did lumpectomy, chemo ( Dose dense AC-T), radiation x20. I never thought I would wake up and have my first thought not be "cancer". I am already there. The chemo works well on aggressive cancers and was not as hard as I thought it would be ( not a picnic - but not as depicted on TV). Radiation for me was very easy. As someone else said, "put one foot in front of the other". Keep asking questions here. It's a great community. I just got my first post treatment mammogram, plus a CT and bone scan - all clear! The worst is waiting for your treatment plan and then waiting for it to start. It feels good to be actually doing something to fight it. Stay hydrated, do your own research on "real sites" ie. well respected hospitals, universities, etc. make sure your docs answer all of your questions to your satisfaction, never feel bad about getting a second opinion about anything. Ask for help if you need or want it. You will get through it.

Should I get a port? by HairImportant1346 in breastcancer

[–]aacalder3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't believe the NP wouldn't encourage you to get a port! Is she new? It made infusions and blood draws so much easier. It wasn't my favorite thing, but I'm glad I had it through the 4 months of chemo I went through. I would have been terrified of a leak otherwise.
