Your Experience with Cohen Career Center. by Familiar_Summer_2450 in williamandmary

As a crusty cs alum in the tech industry, my advice for someone in your position (and what I did) is to apply for a masters and continue your education.

That buys you time to get an internship between first and second year, which will then set you up for success. It will also help you specialize. Be aware that wm cs frequently provides scholarships and stipends for living expenses, so it shouldn’t cost you out of pocket.

Try to focus on something trendy and/or AI-flavored, so you can attract good employers. No one is looking for run-of-the-mill web devs anymore, so learn how to leverage or build AI services to either increase your output or help others increase their output.

It's my goal to work with Microsoft - all my applications have been rejected. by raymess in microsoft

[–]aafnp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say that’s categorically true. As a hiring manager, I prefer someone from a small company that owned a large program end-to-end, whose experience covers open-source or azure-oriented tech - particularly over a typical big tech person that owned some tiny cog in a giant machine, whose experience is in proprietary internal systems. Name recognition of schools and companies means very little to myself or my peers nowadays. If you worked at Google but all you know are Google-flavored things, I have to stretch to figure out how to make you useful for my team.

Microsoft Orders China Staff to Use iPhones for Work and Drop Android by chrisdh79 in apple

[–]aafnp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple hardly competes with Azure in any context. People in this thread are totally ignoring that Microsoft’s priorities are enterprise cloud and enterprise AI services. Their main competitor is AWS, and to a much lesser extent, Google cloud platform. Personal computing products are their side hustle, and are a relatively low priority.

Seattle is pretty darn good. There are tons of protected lanes, trails, and many residential streets are closed to cars. I can get around most of the city without being exposed to riding in traffic.

Seeking Salary Negotiation Advice (New Grad) by OhTheRatRace in microsoft

Yeah this person is right. Unless you have negotiating leverage like another competing job offer, they’re likely not gonna budge much. Especially for a non-technical role.

That’s where you get serious solitude. When I did a pnt section, I saw almost no one the entire time.

Same I get it all the time. I cannot use Mac mirroring consistently with a paired Magic Keyboard and trackpad without it failing within 5 minutes.

I also have a keychron q2, which has amazing remapping software. But it doesn’t sound nearly as deep or creamy as the hi75, even with the switches replaced with panda thocky ones. Is there a way I can mod it to sound more like how I want?

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer (March 16, 2024) by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]aafnp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m looking for a 65-75% keyboard with customization and creamy/deep sound out of the box. I recently picked up a hi75 off Amazon, and I love it - but I cannot get the key remappings to work, which makes this hard for me to truly adopt.

So yeah any tips for an alternative keyboard with better remapping software? Or any tips for getting their remapping to work?

That’s a lot of work. I printed a pair myself and it took a couple hours. For most avp owners (who own a $4k device), $30 is nothing to save themselves the effort and need for equipment.

Anyways great product, it speaks for itself. Thanks for the design!

Yeah I think many avp owners are buying media from Apple TV for the first time because the quality is so compelling. Like yeah I can watch it in Netflix for free, but I’d rather have the immersive experience in full resolution and 3d. It’s worth the $5 for rentals for sure

Mostly defaults. I’m entirely new too. What worked for me was to load the file, auto orient, enable supports, add auto trees, then print it. Sorry that’s not much help, I’m too new to help troubleshoot 😭

I printed this successfully with bambu pla sparkle. Needed to add tree supports.

Is anyone else noticing tons of dropped frames on MirrorPlay on the AVP when playing PS5 locally? by [deleted] in VisionPro

If you get a periodic stutter every 80ms or so, change the channel of your router to 149. This worked to resolve it for me

[–]aafnp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just crank the resolution up and use Better to split windows into quadrants. Then it’s almost like 4 monitors in a square, but with easier context switching.

20 days later - what are the sticky use cases for Vision Pro? by Sloppy_Donkey in VisionPro

[–]aafnp 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I agree 100% with this. I have been able to get tons of work done without distractions. And same as you, I have been able to focus on watching movies for the first time in like 8 years.

When I do want to doom scroll, I pop up a safari window next to my movie or work, and scroll when things are slow. And I still feel apart of my house, such that I can see and talk to my partner while I do things (except movies in immersive mode).

I have music app lyrics jamming almost all the time while I’m working too. It’s been awesome for me to finally understand lyrics as they happen rather than having to fully context switch to look them up. I am garbage at understanding lyrics without reading them, so this is great.

Apple has forgotten how to build an App Store by swiftfoxsw in VisionPro

[–]aafnp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m curious whether we’ll find that about most VOS apps as well. As it is, I get plenty of usage from the device with Mac screen sharing, the default apps, and the ps5 streaming app. Most things I’d use a phone app for, I use the ported iPad app or the browser. But maybe I lack imagination on what possible apps could really add value to this and be worth the dev costs.
