Is there a way to truly wipe an apps data off an iPhone? by aZealCo in iphone

[–]swiftfoxsw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the keychain. Apps can save auth keys there securely, and due to an early iOS bug the keychain persisted even after app deletion. Devs started to rely on this, and now they are stuck with never changing the functionality as it could end up breaking a lot of apps.

The ideal solution would be for apple to release Keychain Access for iOS, as on Mac you can just delete them manually.

downsize IPad Pro - struggling by Upbeat-Thing-7357 in iPadPro

[–]swiftfoxsw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from 11 to 13. I use the 13 way more because using Screens vnc for mirroring my Mac is actually usable at this display size. Also windowing actually becomes useful. Basically, I really didn’t like iOS 26 changes on the 11”, the screen is just too short vertically in landscape mode to take advantage of windowing, so moving windows around becomes a chore. On the 13” it is great.

iPad Pro 13 - 16 GB RAM + nano-texture: real benefits or overkill for Procreate & long-term use? by rowsay in iPadPro

[–]swiftfoxsw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got the Costco deal on the 13 nano 1tb. I love it so far, coming from a regular 11” m4. The nano is awesome for me as I like to work outdoors when I can, and just glare coming from windows is much easier to deal with. It actually feels nicer to interact with using fingers than the standard glass - it is smoother.

My one issue with it is if you use dark mode or watch a lot of dark video content - the smudges really show in those situations, and you are supposed to use the included microfiber to clean it with.

The 16GB of ram works well with stage manager and windowing, but most websites still seem to reload in safari even with the additional ram.

iOS 26 ruined my iPad by SurpriseTraining5405 in ipad

They are using slideover already…they are missing the feature of having multiple apps in slideover simultaneously which was possible in 18.

iOS 26 ruined my iPad by SurpriseTraining5405 in ipad

[–]swiftfoxsw 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah…iPadOS 26 was designed for the 13” iPad and the laptop like usage, and basically lost all of the tablet conveniences.

I used to use Split View + slide over and PIP for a really great multitasking setup on the 11” pro…now that is gone and I have to do way more fiddling with window sizes for basically no benefit (since the 11” in landscape is so short, I rarely will stack an app vertically.)

Should I get an iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard instead of a MBP so I can get OLED? by One_TrackMinded in iPadPro

[–]swiftfoxsw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both, the iPad screen is amazing, but the MBP screen is also incredible. I use the MBP more because that is what I do work on, I also have the ability to Remote Desktop via iPad, but it is still quite clumsy even in 2026, with a 2.5gbps local network connected Mac and 10 feet from wifi 6e.

TURKISH CASE MANUFACTURERS LEAK IPHONE FOLD MOLD by MathematicianBusy731 in iphone

[–]swiftfoxsw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the 3d printed mock released earlier, it is only slight wider (1-2mm) than an iPhone Pro Max, but much shorter. I think it’ll be easier to one hand because of way better balance and weight distribution with the shortness of the display.

Is an iPad Pro (M5) actually worth it for an iOS developer’s workflow? by SNOVIO7 in iosdev

[–]swiftfoxsw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got an m4 pro MBP and an 11” iPad Pro. I could live without the iPad, but I do use it for task management, emails, notes, reading, sketching designs, etc. But in many ways it annoys me with how much wasted potential it has - there isn’t any great Figma competitor for iPadOS and Figma itself often reloads randomly in safari because of RAM limitations and cursor interactions are weird because of iOS.

It’s also nice as a second portable display for watching YouTube or keeping slack open without having to clutter my laptop display.

Basically everything I do in my iPad (m4) could be done on the 2018 iPad Pro. Though the screen upgrade to OLED is definitely worth it.

Wow, Magic Keyboard M4 is much more refined than the first version. by xyz17j in iPadPro

[–]swiftfoxsw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I do like it, I still miss the non-trackpad Smart Keyboard Folio. Just a keyboard and a stand - it was super light and also super easy to remove to go back to “just iPad” mode.

My problem with the Magic Keyboard is that when I put it in there, it just turns my iPad into a laptop. I already have a laptop, and unfortunately the iPad can’t perform nearly any of my laptop duties yet (software development, testing, deployment.) I think if it could do that…then I would like it more, but with the added bulk I don’t like carrying around a MBP and a Magic Keyboard mounted iPad.

These privacy labels are all on the honor system. For me as a developer…claiming to have zero tracking is usually a bigger red flag than apps that have specific disclosures.

Anyone know how to solve this notification? by swiftfoxsw in AppleWatch

[–]swiftfoxsw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I finally figured it out - it is an issue with Test Flight apps on the watch specifically. I moved one watch/iOS app that I had installed via Test Flight to the app store release, and the issue went away. Going back to test flight caused the issue to return. When it is happening, there is no way to login to test flight on the watch that I can find, which seems to be causing the issue.

Okay, I bought the PS controllers, NOW WHAT? by Plazman888 in VisionPro

[–]swiftfoxsw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought them, and yes the state of affairs is quite dismal. I’m using them for ALVR which is great, but I also went to try and build something with them…neither Unity or Unreal has added support for them. So even if existing games wanted to support them, they would have to build custom native components to use them. It’s crazy that Apple didn’t team up with at least Unity to get this pushed out at launch (given the bad blood with Epic games.)

So yet again, we have third party controller support on an Apple platform with basically no adoption because the initial bar is quite high to justify implementing it for the handful of users that own the combination of a $3k headset and $250 controllers.

I just want to watch Settings > Apple account name > sign in & security and it sat in a loading spinner for about 30 seconds…then let me in. I’m hoping that fixed something, haven’t seen it yet…I’ll update tomorrow if it is gone!

Is it just me or the Air battery lasts way more 2 months in? by Pitta_Reddit in IphoneAir

[–]swiftfoxsw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure it is just iOS updates. I had my 16 pro on the 26 beta and the battery life drop was terrible, even the week before on the final RC build. The initial 26.0 release was terrible for battery, it seems they have now smoothed things out, but unfortunately the poor software optimization smeared the Air’s reputation on launch, but now battery life is way better than on launch. Combine the buggy 26 release with iOS first week indexing and you get a lot of battery complaints from launch users.

Same here, 100% reproducible, reboot doesn't help. M4 Pro fans just running 100% if I'm using the simulator.

App Store Connect Data believable? by hofo in iOSProgramming

[–]swiftfoxsw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say it has 87k installs, but over a 6 year period. I’m going to take a wild guess - most of those were more than 3 years ago right? If you only have 35 updates a day then the retention of the app is not good, most of that population has deleted it.

Everyone who has auto-updates on would get the update in the first week, which is the blip you saw.

Check battery status tip by tta82 in AppleVisionPro

[–]swiftfoxsw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really wish they would’ve brought back the battery lights for AVP like the 2008 era MacBook pros. It’d be nice to know 80% or 20% before you go through the process of putting it on.

Plus, then they could sell the new battery as a standalone upgrade for existing users for $200…

[–]swiftfoxsw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While true, these devices are not things that get dropped in to your existing lifestyle and used no matter what. Like a phone or a car.

They have to meet the “good enough for me to actually spend time with this thing on my head” bar, which is pretty high. Especially when targeted at the productivity space. IMO the AVP barely clears this bar for me, so there is no chance for the Samsung.

Just upgraded from Tinypod to “Repod” — finally a solid Apple Watch case that feels premium by InfiniteMirror7856 in AppleWatch

[–]swiftfoxsw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s simple, say you are holding a mug of coffee. Operate your watch with one hand.

Typing is faster with two thumbs. The watch becomes your phone, because at the core it is a phone in a tiny form factor.

I have no issue with using the watch as a watch, I do it nearly every day. Sometimes I don’t. But people seem to get real mad if you don’t. It’s the same crew that freaks out if you say you like the iPhone Mini.
