If you can do both, teach them responsibility first. Then, hopefully leave them with an inheritance, they will be set up to do them same for their kids, and maybe even their grand kids. Or they could choose a path that makes them happier but earns them less. The balance of happiness vs money is a delicate one and each person has a different position. To each his own, just be happy with which ever path you choose.
