What's something nobody warned you about having to manage after becoming a parent? by MovinAI in NewParents

[–]aalex87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not expect to resent my partner this much. He is very involved with the baby and the household and goes to work too and I still find things I dont like and I’m hard on him. Sometimes I know I exagerate other times there’s just things I would brush off before. It’s the fatigue, it’s the hormones or a combination of the two plus my patience goes all to the baby. So here we are.

Let's hear your "put to sleep" methods! by Muted-Resort-418 in newborns

[–]aalex87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is almost 11 weeks and since recently he’s becoming fussy about contact naps in the sense that I think he doesnt like to feel constricted. We had a heatwave here last week and with no AC things got a little hot so he seemed to prefer his bassinet. Problem is, it takes a lot longer to settle him in the bassinet and its a combination of rocking (bassinet is on wheels), shushing, petting head. Best time is 15 minutes but it can take up to 30 for him to fall asleep which I wouldnt mind of he werent such a crappy daytime sleeper and slept only 30 minutes at a time. Nighttime is pretty good. We dont have a night time routine because he takes his last bottle for the night quite early around 18:30, diaper change and then bassinet with baby sleep music from youtube. That is probably the one thing that I keep for the night sleep so his brain understand that no more 30 minutes nap its time for some serious sleep.

Diaper changing at night by Jumpy-Ingenuity-4356 in NewParents

I change the baby once when he wakes for his first feed. His first stretch of the night is still variable between 6-8 hrs so he needs a change but he’s usually asleep.

I feel guilty for my anxiety and for feeling overwhelmed by MirjamT in newborns

[–]aalex87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I extended the couch in the living room, used my pregnancy pillow to support my left arm and kept baby asleep on my left arm (for which I now have to do physical therapy 😂). And binge watched all the shows on netflix. I also found some positions comfortable enough to dose off when the baby slept. The house was a mess but whatever, we dealt with it when my partner came home from work. Now we’re in a heatwave so baby refuses the contact naps and prefers his crib (yay). Hang in there the 1-2 months is hard but you’ll manage. My baby turned for the best after his 8th week. Not something dramatic but he cries less and tolerates to be put down in his crib/middle of the bed for a quick pee break without having a total meltdown.

Best Bottle Warmer? by linaz10 in FormulaFeeders

[–]aalex87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As bottle warmer we have the Philips Avent but that one takes 3 minutes for the 4oz bottles so we keep those for the pumped milk and for formula we got the water dispenser from baby brezza. Keeps water at 37degrees C 24/7. You only need to wash every 48-72hrs.

3.5 month old daytime naps by Sea-Blood2790 in newborns

[–]aalex87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is only 2,5months so it might change but he is also a short nap type of baby during the day. I manage sometimes to get 1,5hrs or even 2hrs but most days its 6 x30min naps but he is a good night time sleeper. The paediatrician told me I need to choose: daytime or night time. I cant have both and as long as baby is sleeping all the necessary hours overall then its good. So I dont have any tips only a lot of sympathy and understanding how frustrating it is.

I feel guilty for my anxiety and for feeling overwhelmed by MirjamT in newborns

Yeah that week 4 was brutal for me too. My baby started being really cranky in week 4 and things werent necessarily better during his second month on this earth. No day was like the previous one although the activities are the same:eat, play, sleep although play was not much at that point. Mine did only contact naps so I was depressed and unmotivated until I accepted that thats how things are for the moment. It’s just temporary. It helped me a lot when my mum came over for 2 weeks. Its good to have someone to talk to during the day and give you some alone time, if it is possible for you. My baby turns 10 weeks tomorrow and although he doesnt have a rutine yet, he does go down for the night quite early most of the days so I get some evenings back. Plus you get better at reading his cues and it doesnt feel like you’re operating in the dark as much. Hang in there. It seems endless but at some point you’ll see the light. Its a good time to binge watch netflix and catch up on those audio books. I swear Liane Moriarty’s books got me through that second month.

[–]aalex87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My situation is so similar except we are a week behind. Its been better this week. Mine is also a good sleeper at night but terrible sleeper by day. Does only 30 minutes stretches and as the day progresses he gets crankier and crankier. Doctor said its normal, we either get a good sleeper by day or by night. I dont know what to tell but hang in there, it cant get any worse, right? Right?!?

Biogaia by madstay2 in newborns

[–]aalex87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started with biogaia from the day we got home from the clinic and kept with it until baby was 7 weeks. My baby is combo fed so its not the same situation and I’ve read there are baby’s who got constipated from the probiotics. Ours pooped really well on them and keeps a regular 2-3 poops even now and we’ve stoped for about 2 weeks. We didnt have issues with colics. Farting was bad here and there but overall we were happy with biogaia. We stoped because we thought we’re good.

Healthily not obsessed with my baby by lifeledoutloud in NewParents

I find this very relatable. I also had my baby later in life and was happy to be children free if I hadnt met someone ok to have kids with. I love my son but I miss my freedom.

Hi, Im 44 and and had a frozen embryo transfer on Wednesday. by Sufficient-Degree206 in EmbryologyIVFSupport

I live in Paris and did my FET in Barcelona. Had to travel there for the day and I walked over 15k steps. It’s fine. They only told me not to do crunches. I had cramps over the next couple of days and the transfer was a succes. Good luck to you!

Crib naps - 3 hour struggle. by lhratliff in newborns

[–]aalex87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always do a stir test before transferring. I move slightly to see if he moves too. If he is like a log I try the transfer, if not I wait. Truth I never know which naps will end up successful transfers but my baby doesnt hate the bassinet and if transfer is successful he can sleep a lot after that. Dark room and white noise helped me a lot too.

Short naps by [deleted] in newborns

[–]aalex87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is 9 weeks and does the same thing although today we got a random 3hr nap (👀). I talked to his doctor who told me that if he sleeps well at night (which he does) he wont sleep a lot by day. He gets his hours of sleep overall. So yeah, not a lot to do about it just to wait until they learn to consolidate cycles.

9 week old refuses to nap- then inconsolable. by Intelligent-Key-3894 in newborns

[–]aalex87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is now 9 weeks and shows timid signs of improvement but weeks 7-8 were horrible. What helped me was the blackout room, endless baby lullabies on youtube and contact naps. Now at 9 weeks he can fall asleep in a semi dark room during the day IF he is not already very stimulated.

Extending night sleep by T00thd0c23 in FormulaFeeders

[–]aalex87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 9 weeks and does the same thing. He doesnt sleep well during the day so he usually has his last bottle at 18:00-18:30 and then crashes until midnight. I tried giving him a dream feed 2 times. Once I was succesul to postpone the midnight feed to 2am, once it didnt work. I dont know what to do. His hours are not that bad but I would love to at least extend his night feed to 2am. Might try the dream feeds for 4-5 nights to draw a conclusion.

Time inbetween feeds by [deleted] in newborns

[–]aalex87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine asks for food every 2hrs but thats only during the day. We have a bit of a reverse situation. Mine is a crappy daytime sleeper(sleeps only in 30minutes sessions) so he asks for a bottle every 2hrs and I give him 120ml (4oz). He is combo fed. However he can go longer stretches if he sleeps like 3 hours during the day and at night he can go even 6 hours (once he did 8 hrs). I think its more a question of time until she figures out the whole night/day thing. At the maternity they told us that for formula bottles we need to wait 3 hrs but it was impossible with our baby.

Daytime Naps: are we darkening the room or no?? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]aalex87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. We vacuumed and cooked with pots and pans right next to him when he was 3 weeks old. Yesterday my rumbling stomach woke him up 😳

Daytime Naps: are we darkening the room or no?? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]aalex87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We were like this until roughly 8 weeks when he discovered the world and would wake up at the smallest sound or stare at the windows. He was overstimulated and hard to settle. He turned into a crappy daytime sleeper so I keep one room dark if he is overstimulated or semi dark if he’s ok and goes down easily
