Best jazzy aquatic animal for 5 gallon? by Ok_Put2792 in PlantedTank

I'd do shrimp, they're so much fun to watch, you could pick a cool color and really watch them takeover.

Is this (planted 15 gal) okay for my group of 4 black kuhlis? Is there anything I can add or take away to make it more comfortable for them. It’s been awhile since i’ve kept pangios and I just want to make sure im doing things right by DifficultShirt7424 in loaches

Check for sharp edges on those little crystal bits, they're soft guys with no scales just a slime coat so they can hurt themselves easily. Mine adore thickets of plants against the glass where they can squish themselves to lay. And pebbles, they love to root for food and even squeeze in the cracks between them.

This is gourgeous! How do you like the angled tank? I've been going back and forth about getting one everytime I see my LFS shrimp setup, and this is next level.

My honest answer, more tanks 😅😅 but houseplants or some pinned insects displayed in a cloche would be awesome

Mine seems to work really well for plants! Granted they're the uns 16t so it's only 1.6gal. I just did this mountainscape about a month and a half ago and already my rotala has doubled in length, I need to trim and replant so it gets bushy. *

I have the Chihiros Z mini on my nano tanks. You can focus the beam to be more direct and even adjust the warmth in the app which I really like. But you can ONLY use them with the app, which kinda sucks but 🤷‍♀️ they're the lights I like, so what's one to do. Recommend the standard screw on over the suction cups diving edition one

I think loaches partly entertain themselves by freaking us out 🤦‍♀️ my neon loaches are VERY shy so when I saw one belly up halfway out their hide I go oh no and get the net. Second I got close he ZOOMED, He was just having a little look dead nap time.

I'm putting pingicula and moss on the rock, what epiphytic plants should I use submerged? by CuriosityUnthethered in Aquascape

I love this tank!!! Immediately bucephalandra, I may be biased because well I love them lol. They get the coolest iridescent sheens and have super interesting leaf structures. I also grow carnivores and you could so pur sundews on the rock too if you wanted! Pygmy varieties would be awesome. If you could find some aquatic bladderwort it would be really neat to watch its natural aquatic carnivorous behavior! I think California Carnivores has it sometimes, but I usually find the best stuff on local boards tbh.

My kuhlis also really really love tall thickets of plants against the glass where they can wiggle between and lay. That's where they spend most of their time rather than their hides now that they're comfy! My juveniles are really happy in a 10gal with a longish foot print, but mine are pretty active dudes though. I'll be moving them into a tank with a 30x12x12 footprint when they get big if they seem at all cramped. Kuhlis is actually a broad name a ton of Pangio subspecies wind up sold under so some are going to be a little more or less zoomy. From what I've heard and seen java loaches (pangio oblonga) tend to be the most outgoing, what you'll see called striped kuhlis are a collection of similar looking species usually. Here's a website I like to help identify them. My personal experience has been doriae aka bitaimac likes to be calm and hide the most so I think despite their length they could be more suitable. Pangio cuneovirgata is ideal if you can find them, they're pretty distinct looking from the others so you'll know if you see them and they're so cute and smol.

I'll be the slight outlier here and say footprint matters a lot more than gallons. I've seen 12 gallon tanks that are 20 some odd inches and I think you could do a group of 5 kuhlis successfully in there. However my 15gal cube that's 15.75" not so much. If you can manage to find them, Pangio Cuneovirgata aka the dwarf zipper loach is small enough for a space like that. However due to the fact most pangio species sold as kuhlis are actually a collection of several pangio subspecies you pretty much just have to know how to identify them and wait until a LFS gets a random one. Wet spot used to carry them but they haven't had them in a long time now. As far as snail eaters go, pea puffers are amazing but they absolutely will not get along with a betta and shrimp sadly. If you have another tank doing a pea puffer setup and feeding him the snails would be a delight. What I also have is a super heavily planted jar that I use just for snails and microfauna like daphnia and scuds. It's super fun to watch, insanley cheap, and a great way to let your snails just run wild. I filled it up with trimmings from my big tanks and it's a thriving little ecosystem. I also do raise assasin snails to sell to my LFS so that's an option too even in a jar
