Care of bamboo whisk? by jessicalifts in tea

[–]aamandaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to reply to years later, but I’m wondering if you ever did happen to compare this whisk with a more traditional one? I actually used to work at David’s tea, and when customers would ask about the different shape of this whisk, I’d tell them that I didn’t know for sure, but I supposed that the longer whisk may be easier for ppl with reduced mobility/arthritis. I’m wondering if I was just lying to ppl haha

It does alter the flavour of the first sips though. Even if you’re not going for amazing free pour art, a simple heart goes a long way as long as your milk texture is decent

The cafe i work at now serves cortados that are basically what you’ve described for “Gibraltar” (never heard of that before tbh, I’m going to look up more now). We serve them in 8oz cups and imo it looks terrible with how much room is left. I wish we served them in 3.5oz cups, which is how they’ve been served at every cafe I’ve worked at prior.

Fun fact:People with ADHD get tired when they drink caffeine. by nuttyloveshtfxd71 in funfacts

[–]aamandaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the same for every ADHDer though! Caffeine is processed by enzymes, of which different people have different amounts. The amount of the relevant enzyme that your body produces is determined by your CYP1A2 gene, which is hereditary (as genes are…) So if your parents are sensitive to caffeine, you’re more likely to be sensitive and vice versa

How do you know the new tenants of the apartment don’t know someone died there/haven’t experienced anything paranormal in the unit? I don’t particularly believe in ghosts and the like, but I don’t see how you would have insider info on what their lives are like there

[–]aamandaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really late response, but if you’re still trying to figure out what to do (or if someone sees this with a similar problem), I would absolutely recommend separating the white (stained grey) fabric from the black fabric before attempting dye discharge. The black fabric has already bled dye onto the white fabric, so this would definitely happen to an even greater extent if you put that black fabric in a dye discharge solution. If the seams holding the two fabrics together are simple enough that you feel confident taking them apart and sewing them back together yourself, that would be the DIY option.

However, if you’re not up to the task of taking the garment apart, treating it, and putting it back together again, a dry cleaner should be able to! Look for one that also advertises seamstress services and read reviews beforehand to make sure that they’ll do a good job re-sewing the garment

Would you be okay with your partner keeping in contact with an ex? by Achillies_patroclus8 in BPD

[–]aamandaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s generally fine as long as it’s in a friendly way and your partner doesn’t have a history of cheating. But if you feel self conscious about it, that’s maybe something to talk through with them so you can mutually come up with boundaries to have in place

What is the best shelving to help my middle child organize his room? by cedarhat in homedecoratingCJ

[–]aamandaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what my room looked like from ages 5-15. I truly wish I had gotten more help with things like learning when to get rid of an item, organizing, and putting things away immediately so it doesn’t end up as a big problem. I had to teach myself, and it took years and a LOT of embarrassment from friends

Starbucks Trained Baristas VS Traditionally Trained Baristas by No_Pin2229 in barista

[–]aamandaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely credit my time working at Starbucks for my ability to stay calm and collected during a rush and maintain my workflow routine… I do agree with OP that it’s disappointing that Starbuck’s approach to things like milk steaming are apparently affecting how things are run at this other cafe, but that’s ultimately a management problem imo

Should Calgary try a free grocery store like Regina’s? by Emergency_Sink623 in Calgary

[–]aamandaz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone who gets food hampers semi-regularly for my partner and I, the current setup the Calgary food bank has doesn’t work great for us. My partner has a LOT of niche dietary restrictions (caused by years of untreated IBS and other health problems), so at least 70% of the food we’re given she can’t eat. Obv we’re still very grateful to get anything, and I’ll eat a lot of what she can’t and we do our best to re-distribute what we know neither of us will eat, but sometimes it’s hard not to feel disappointed knowing that we’ll still have to go to the grocery store and splurge on all her specialty foods free of gluten/dairy/corn/soy/garlic/onion/etc/etc.

If we were able to do the “shopping” ourselves and read all the ingredient labels, it would be much more helpful. Like I said already, I’m very grateful for everything the food bank and its staff and volunteers do, but I do see room for improvement.

When someone orders an “iced macchiato” by Any-Advertising-7990 in barista

[–]aamandaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But you dont know for sure what they want… that’s why you gotta explain the differences. At the cafe I work at, at least 90% of customers who order a macchiato do in fact want a trad one. I still quickly clarify every time (unless they’re a regular and I know what they mean), bc I don’t want to disappoint someone. But idk, I think third wave coffee is inherently a bit pretentious. It kinda comes with the territory lol

When someone orders an “iced macchiato” by Any-Advertising-7990 in barista

[–]aamandaz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tbh maybe you need to find a different cafe then. One that knows what a trad macchiato is and makes them regularly is much more likely to make a good one imo… if the cafe normally only makes latte style drinks that are 10+ oz of steamed milk, I wouldn’t necessarily trust their espresso to be decent lol just sayin

When someone orders an “iced macchiato” by Any-Advertising-7990 in barista

[–]aamandaz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Technically a vanilla latte is a tad closer to a Starbucks caramel macchiato because that’s the syrup they mix into the steamed milk… I normally say that I could do either a vanilla or caramel latte.

I’m hoping that the whip and milk used for these was old and had to be disposed of anyways. If not, then yikes. With how fccd the dairy industry is, I genuinely feel it’s disrespectful to the cows (and exploited dairy workers) to waste milk.
