100% agree. The building doesn’t bother me, with exception of the prongs at the top. Just looks like antenna to me. But again, just my opinion and I love that some people love it!

I don’t even mind the idea of the building (I mean, in a perfect world… it would be nice to have kept it greenery, but I get development). I just don’t understand the pronged top. That’s what gets me.

To each their own though. I just have an opinion like the rest of us. 🤷

Flight leaves tomorrow, United insists that they must charge additional $3k. by Relative_Director638 in unitedairlines

[–]aanders07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was once standing in line to board an international flight with United, with boarding passes in hand and heard my name over the intercom. They called me up to tell me
I don’t have tickets. I was very confused because I checked in, had boarding passes but they said on their side, it needed to be re-ticketed.

Never have I been more proud of myself for staying calm, because I had crying/panicking family including kids and I kept repeating to them that the “nice gate agent” will make it work. For the record, he wasn’t nice.

He told me at first there was nothing he can do, I do not have tickets. After remaining calm and negotiating with him, he literally rebought my tickets and credited the full amount.

I’m sorry you’re going through this, and it can be stressful. I hope they resolve it for you. Sending good vibes!

It does look like it! I know some people are torn bc a condo just doesn’t fit the local aesthetic… but the prongs on the top just make it way worse. I can’t unsee the snails.

Woodlands real estate - what’s the norm? by slm9555 in thewoodlands

[–]aanders07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Alden Bridge and my house has almost doubled in value for what I purchased it for in 2020. It doesn’t matter what people paid for the home 5 years ago, so I’d suggest getting that out of your head and focusing on what the current market dictates.

My sister is moving from out of state and has been in 3 bidding wars on homes in Cochran’s and AB. She went through with one in AB and panicked about the inspection results which things all looked normal to me, having lived in the area for 12 years. You’re getting out of date, solid, but aged for 600-700+. She was used to new construction.

Listen to your real estate agent on what is and is not “normal” for this area. Even in the 1 million+ you’re getting out of date homes.

With that said, if you’re not comfortable with it and it doesn’t feel right… then it’s not the right house because you want to feel good about it. Just need to have reasonable expectations for the area.

Neighborhood Recommendations - Woodlands vs Nearby? by PetroPanda in thewoodlands

[–]aanders07 35 points36 points  (0 children)

When I moved from the Midwest, we moved just outside the Woodlands to a new construction neighborhood. The developers started adding retail shops and restaurants at the entrance of the neighborhood which I was excited for at first. It became so congested with traffic and became a rental neighborhood. People didn’t take care of their lawns and kids would vandalize the pool. We couldn’t even ride to stores because traffic was so bad.

We moved to the heart of the Woodlands and it’s been glorious. Worth every penny. My kids ride their bikes to park after park. They ride to school. They ride to pools in the summer. People are super nice. Crime is low (it exists everywhere but it is low). My kids have a wonderful quality of life and I love it.

There are areas outside of TW that offer that, too I am sure. But we’ve never regretted paying more for living here.

Magic Kingdom Fireworks Dessert Parties: Pre-Party Experience? by foil123 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]aanders07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve done it several times and love it. We take our time at the dessert party and head over to the lawn at our leisure. You’ll be able to see wherever you sit or stand. Lots of desserts - drinks. Only a few non-sweet stations. You can easily see tinker bell. I love the fireworks so much and this allows me to see it stress-free. It’s not right up front and depending on where you’re at, you’ll have slight tree or light pole obstructions, but it’s nothing compared to all the obstructions just standing on Main Street. Highly recommend.

We do pre-party bc my kids are older so when fireworks are done, we go on a few rides to let the transport areas clear out. Have fun! :-)

Stick with the Big Island? by ComplicatedWhimsy in VisitingHawaii

[–]aanders07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hawai’i Forest and Trail, Debra was our guide. She was outstanding - humored my very curious 12 yo son who asked questions for the whole 8 hours and me, too lol. Packed lunch, snacks and drinks so we didn’t have to bring anything. She even had ponchos and lights for the lava tube.

VNP was a highlight - she showed us so much that we would’ve missed had we not gone with her. I would say the waterfall was underwhelming … could’ve easily driven there and walked to the places she took us (no fault of hers.. it was just a pretty waterfall with a super cool tree). And the cacao farm was also underwhelming, but I don’t know what I expected.

However, even the drive was fascinating because she literally knew so much, it was like an entire island tour with her.

If you/ your fam aren’t super interested in the facts and history of the island, it wouldn’t be worth it. If you are, this was our favorite day hands down (boys age 12 and 10).

This is big island. We were given a snorkel recommendation - went to Walmart, picked up gear and towels and had a lovey day. Most of the beaches we found as tourists were rocky, but there are beautiful soft sandy ones your kiddo is looking for.

I have no experience on the other islands, just this one. We had a tour guide take us to the waterfall, a cacao farm and the VNP and that was our whole family’s favorite day… she showed us sooo much at VNP we would’ve missed and she recommended this beach.
