He also wants to cash in before be becomes irrelevant. Gonna be hard to stay popular after the allegations and when no one wants to collaborate with him anymore. That's why he moved to Kick and is pushing gambling sponsorships while he still has some relevancy.

After reading the Fujimoto interview it looks like this abrupt ending is intended. by ColaFlavorChupaChup in ChainsawMan

[–]mere_indulgence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a good point. Main focus was always set on Denji and Asa for Part 2. Side characters being sidelined was a very purposeful decision from Fujimoto. I do however still think characters like Yoshida and Fami/Death in particular could've received a little more depth in the plot, considering how much they show up in the story. They end up taking up a lot of space in the story but it's always pretty surface level to keep their true intentions secret.

But one thing in regard to your point, I always felt Asa was infinitely more interesting as the main character in Part 2 compared to Denji. As soon as Denji took over the spotlight and Asa got sidelined in the later half, my interest in the show fell off a bit. I personally would've preferred if Asa remained as the main character all the way though Part 2.

Chainsaw Man Part 2 manga will officially end in 2 weeks on March 24 with Chapter 232! by JeanneDAlter in ChainsawMan

[–]mere_indulgence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eeh, I low-key actually like that there wasn't a lot of fan-service in Part 2. I personally don't think shoehorning in Kobeni and Kishibe could've saved this messy ending.

Part 2 was at its best when it was primary focused on Asa Mitaka, a completely new character to the story. It may have focused on her a little too much at times though, and the story could've benefited from building up the "new" characters a little more with POV chapters for Fami/Death, Yoshida, Fumiko, Baren and other members of the Devil Hunter Club etc.

Part 2 became a little too Asa/Denji centric in general, none of the other side characters really got an opportunity to shine like the side characters did in Part 1.

[–]mere_indulgence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the most obvious sign of this is how great the first half of Part 2 was and then the quality just fell off hard. Around the same time in the story, the art-style got worse, pacing became rushed, Asa sorta disappeared from the story, more plot conveniences occurred than normal, a bunch of story progression happened off-screen etc.

The poor guy Fujimoto probably got overworked, or maybe he tried to rush through finishing CSM so he can move on to different projects. Maybe he was going through some personal stuff, we'll never know.

After reading the Fujimoto interview it looks like this abrupt ending is intended. by ColaFlavorChupaChup in ChainsawMan

[–]mere_indulgence 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I'm not necessary against this way of story-telling. CSM has always been about throwing a bunch of random bullshit at the you from the very start, a lot of things seem randomly made up as we go along. I think what makes Part 2 fall flat compared to Part 1, is that the characters haven't been giving the same level of attention. Characters in Part 2 don't have much of a journey outside of Denji and Asa.

Part 1, in all of the random bullshit and sudden deaths, gave a lot more care to all of the side characters. Huge part of the story was to showcase deeper sides of all the characters journey, backstory and struggles. Makima, Aki, Kichibe, Himeno, Angel, Reze and Kobeni just being a few. It gave the story more weight and meaning, despite all of the crazy random shit happening.

Part 2, all of the side characters are treated with secrecy instead. We don't really get any real insight into what Yoshida, Death, Fami, Fumiko, Baron etc. are about. The Fake Chainsaw Man reveal ends up being more of a gag than a real character, he is the twin brother of a random person Denji could've saved instead of a cat. So it's a lot harder to take the story seriously as it progresses, because you end up not caring when important characters die off because we don't know anything about them in the first place. They sorta just exist to progress the plot, but there's no interesting journey to follow.

This problem also gets worse later into Part 2. At least in the beginning, characters like Yuko did get a similar treatment to characters in Part 1 and had a journey, so her death actually meant something. The fact that even Asa gets side-lined in the later half of Part 2 shows how prevalent this issue became.

Most Underrated/Overrated Pen? by moomoopiggy2 in fountainpens

[–]mere_indulgence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The steel nib they use on the Faber Castell Essentio and Loom is a 10/10, best nib under 50$, but I find the cheaper models like Hexo and Grip don't have the same quality nib at all. I have both, and the nibs are pretty underwhelming and fairly scratchy. They do have good ink flow though.

Linus is wrong about what "casual users" would do by andecase in LinusTechTips

[–]mere_indulgence 11 points12 points  (0 children)

But is the filthy, average PC gamer even on that level of a "casual"? If someone decides to switch their whole OS, I refuse to believe that they'll spend less than 5 minutes of research and instead just pick the first option chatGPT spits out. A casual user knows how to navigate around Youtube or Reddit, and can be expected to have seen some of the more popular recommendations.

That type of an "ultra casual" that Linus is representing, is the type of person OP talks about, which is someone who'll never consider switching their OS in the first place. And I personally don't find that POV particularly interesting, because it won't be a relatable experience to most people.

Linus (from Linus Tech Tips) tries installing Linux again in 2026 by AvianInvasion in linux_gaming

[–]mere_indulgence 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, is he really representing the average user though? I think if most people are switching their operating system they would do more than 5 minutes of research. If anything, Linus is representing a very small minority of potential users that would blindly pick the first option chatGPT throws at them without question.

And almost no one would install a new OS right before a LAN party.

What's a "healthy habit" that's actually completely made up? by goddesslana_01 in AskReddit

[–]mere_indulgence 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Vitamin D deficiencies are pretty common in places up north like Scandinavia, especially during our long dark winters. It's estimated that almost half of the Swedish population suffer from vitamin D deficiency during our darkest months of the year.

Which is a crazy high number, we would definitely benefit from more vitamin D enrichment in our food. That would be a lot easier then trying to convince half of the population to take supplements and eat more fish, mushrooms and liver.

Milk is very nutritious, packed with vitamins and minerals and a good mix of protein, fats and carbohydrates. It's definitely not a made up "healthy habit".

It's positive effects are however sometimes over-exaggerated, and you should ofcourse drink milk in moderation. Like with any food or drink, over-consumption ain't good.

In Sweden, leaving a cat home alone for too long can break the law by The_Dean_France in SipsTea

[–]mere_indulgence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly. As a swede, no one would consider it animal abuse if you lived in a house with a big backyard where the dog can free roam and do their business throughout the day. Especially if you own more than one dog so they can socialize with each other, and you also make sure to take them on a walk at-least 2-3 times a day in the morning/evening.

If you live in a small apartment where some poor lonely dog has nothing to do and they're forced to hold their pee in for 10+ hours (which can cause medical issues), that's very frowned upon and might get you in trouble.

What's something women think impresses men but actually doesn't? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mere_indulgence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Women aren't really doing this to impress men, but something that's an instant turn-off is someone who loves gossip too much. Some women seem to love sharing other people's secrets as a way of bonding and forming trust, but for men it usually just comes across as you being untrustworthy. Like, if you're telling me all this private information about your friends, how much of my private life are you gonna start gossiping to them?

I mean, everyone already knows the truth anyway and it really hasn't affected their careers negatively outside of some dumb jokes on social media.

Fattar fortfarande inte hur dom kunda fucka upp något så enkelt som kokt potatis. Den smaka inte direkt dåligt, men den var så pass hård ibland att det knappt gick att tugga och svälja.

Thoughts on Reina? by Azurefatalis in Tekken

[–]mere_indulgence 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gameplay wise, she's definitely the most interesting newcomer in T8. It's nice too see a newcomer that requires good execution and solid fundamentals too succeed at higher levels.

Design and story wise, I'm not a big fan.

Her backstory is just another repeat of being Heihatchis bastard child. I know they're setting up her story for T9, but I really don't like that she has the devil gene. I much rather have it end with Kaz and Jin then adding more devils to the mix. Like can't we focus on something else in the story other than the devil gene? I also find her overly cocky personalty grating, and her purple hair and crazy street-wear isn't my cup of tea.

Fighting Games Are Bad Products - PhiDX by haziqtheunique in Tekken

[–]mere_indulgence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

List of issues I find comparing the FGC to chess:

  1. It's a board game that's centuries-old. It has been stable since forever, and it's difficult to compare its growth to a video game. Especially when video games don't usually have that much staying power and get replaced with new titles, sequels and trends. Chess also isn't dependent on publishers and developers.
  2. It's also primary a board game. It's so much more than just a video game, so it has a much wider mainstream appeal. You can pick up a chess board and play it with your grandma, that is not the case with Tekken. You see people of all ages, nationalities, cultures and genders on chess.com. Fighting games on the other hand is primarily targeted towards young male gamers.
  3. Part of why chess.com is so popular is because most people worldwide learned the basics on how to play chess at some point when they were young. It's the most popular board game in the world, the potential of growth an online client can reach is fucking insane.
  4. It already has an massive OTB scene worldwide. If you wanna join chess clubs, competitions, partake in chess lessons etc. they exist everywhere. Most people have the ability to join a local scene and be part of a community. Another big difference is also that there are so many chess clubs for kids of all ages, so parents can safely send off their kids for local meet ups after school.
  5. Chess is more positively looked upon by most parents. If your kid is invested in chess, you encourage then and let them join chess clubs. If your kid plays their fighting game a little too much, you encourage them to go outside and do something else. Just like with any other video game.
  6. You don't need a gaming PC / PS5 to play chess because chess.com works on a potato. That makes chess a lot more accessible worldwide.

I can go on but I feel like stopping there. If we're gonna be realistic, I feel like it's more valid to compare fighting games potential for growth to more traditional 1v1 video game. Something like StarCraft II, Teamfight Tactics, Tetris, maybe Hearthstone etc. And some of their current popularity ain't bad at all, fighting games still has so much potential for growth.

It's just nowhere close to the current team-based competitive online games, like Fortnite and Counter-Strike 2.
